As Vayla’s peeled eyes lingered on the holograms, the horrors were peeled back like skin and flesh. The situation was certainly worse than anticipated, and Vayla remembered her statement back in the temple of how it was in some way fortunate that Durr the Hutt had broadcasted these Force adepts. The Jedi Order was better off knowing about these transgressions sooner rather than later, even with the consequences to themselves, and sure enough that broadcast was not alone. Nar Shaddaa. Mustafar. Mimban. Ukio. Where does it end? What else have we yet to see? Sith. Dark Jedi. Knights of Ren. These were dark times indeed.

As the questions were voiced one after the other, Vayla shared her apprentice’s position in remaining silent and listening, sipping tea. There was a well of information to process and partition, from the display of a masked swordsman to the notion that these individuals, or indeed groups, were at least in part posing as members of the Jedi Order for the purpose of deception. Mila spoke Vayla’s thoughts regarding whether these attacks were unified or isolated. Different times. Different places. Different shades. Yet, the same shadow. The same darkness. The same wound that girdles the Force so tightly I can feel it in my chest.

Vayla took in a deep breath to loosen her lungs as she digested Ky Maryk’s words, pocketing a datacard when it came her way. What the Jedi Knight was suggesting had been suggested at least once before, back in the meeting called by Oren Zapan, and all the better that it should be emphasized here and now. The Jedi needed to be Jedi, not stop, not hide or run or fight, but help and repair and show what the Jedi Order was both to and for this galaxy. If darkness was creeping between the stars then it was up to the guardians of the light to keep those stars bright. Darkness rises and the light must rise to meet it.

“One question, Knight Maryk.” Vayla held up her hand to make it easier for him to find her, but hesitated. A red blade burning with hate. Blue blades. Vibroblades… “While I believe that none in our family would actively seek confrontation with these darksiders, or whatever it is we want to group them as, neither them nor us can ensure that any encounter will result in merely a report...”

As she spoke, she became less sure of where her words were going, though sure enough that she wasn’t appealing to the Council. Still, this needed to be considered, and so she found herself looking across the countenances around her rather than only one.

“If these individuals would slaughter with abandon, massacre a village, potentially even pose as one of us then, Force forbid, if we cross paths we may also cross blades... Are we ready for that? To take on these individuals in combat—one or five or however many more—if it comes to it?”

It wasn’t a question of whether any of them had the capability but how each of them would respond. Already, certain Jedi had encountered these distant souls, whether they were the same ones in the videos or not. Future encounters might be sparse so early on, but care and caution could not be understated terms. Every action would have a reaction, and the latter could easily trump the former. Ky had said it all: dark times. Times that none of us have truly experienced before.

"If it takes a sword to end a life then it may also take a sword to save one. Darkness rises and the light must rise to meet it. All I'm saying, my friends, is to be resolved that, sooner or later, the light of our sabers may be what rises—against this shadow that falls."

Vayla ended her speech there and took a drink of tea to settle her tension, her thoughts already at war with one another. Master... Where are you now? Why is it your own lightsaber that I feel burning inside my chest?

To turn one's eyes away from the darkness, to deny it would be apathy, and apathy meant death. He knew that his path would have to meet with the darkness, he could sense it. What part he played in this scheme of the force was yet to be seen, but the peace they had held for so long had seemed to end--or maybe there never truly was?

All he could do was focus on the present and the problems in front of them. He would rub his mechanical hand against the burnt flesh of his left, his brown eyes peering towards Vayla, "I believe things are only going to get more dangerous for us all." He would say firmly, "Some of us in this gathering may very well be one with the force within the coming days. Children will be forced to grow up early, and the things we may see--we might never forget. Be cautious with yourself, continue to check your emotions and if the things we face start to grip you, reach out to us for help."

He would lower his eyes for a moment, "If Kylo can return to Ben and Vader can return to Anakin, then some of them may be able to be changed. But, always remember that in the face of grave danger a Jedi has the duty to protect the innocent. Do not take enjoyment in taking the life of an enemy, do your best to hold as little emotion as possible if you must clash blades--this is the Jedi way."

Mila had a string of thoughts that were forming into another question, but Vayla had seemingly thought the same thing as she had; were they ready for conflict with these dark entities? While Mila didn't want to kill anyone, and she hoped she never would, it was better to be expecting a fight than to show up blind. What if the Dark rises, the Light was already ready to face them, sword and shield ready? While they were peace keepers, they needed to also be ready to stop those who sought to disrupt that which they held dear. Ideas were already forming in Mila's mind, as the words from Mustafar came back to her again 'The Dark needs the Light, as the Light needs the Dark'. What if they could train jedi to walk unseen in the dark places of the galaxy, to hide themselves in the force, reveal themselves only when needed? It sounded all good in well in Mila's head, but she would need to think on it longer, her thoughts were racing, and racing thoughts didn't tread down the best of roads.

Oren's words caught her as well, as she reflected upon the three dark siders she had encountered on Mustafar, remarking how they seemed more curious and aloof than plotting and dastardly; though they still had something about them that made it hard to trust their intentions. Yes, perhaps some of them could be redeemed, that was certainly an option, but it took two to tango, and not everyone was looking for a dancing partner; heck, Mila didn't even know how to dance. "I believe both of you make valid points, but as Master Oren said, we should consider direct conflict a last ditch effort. These men I encountered on Mustafar, they seemed young and curious, rather than dastardly and cunning. Perhaps they only seek knowledge rather than power, and with that flow of knowledge, we might redirect them on the path of the jedi and away from their dark masters." She commented, before falling silent. She would definitely speak with Vayla more after this, perhaps they were more alike than she had initially believed.

She didn’t know what it was but Vayla could as much feel the man’s eyes on her before he even spoke. When he did, she listened, his words laced in a sense of serenity that he did not even seem to recognize as much as she did. Oren Zapan was a man of action in the Jedi Order, one who did not hesitate to take others under his wing and see that their own wings took flight, Padawan or Knight or whomever. His utility to his family was not lost in this moment, with Vayla standing there in the lull of the Force, even if it was just the light side splaying the fears that coiled around her core.

Caution with oneself should have been a tenet, though maybe it was already an unspoken one. A person’s heart could lead them astray, their own mind deceiving them into believing lies, following falsities, tethered to untruths as though it were the universe around them that was warped and not their own understanding. Vayla had felt herself caught in that web more than once, before or after she took to incense and intense meditation. Caution, yes, there was certainly precedent for it; but it was Oren’s calm tongue as he offered help that would stick.

Vayla, of course, wasn’t the only one in the knight’s gaze. Oren was addressing his guidance to all present, to every member of his family. Encouragement was never a cheap commodity within the Jedi Order, especially now. The Knights of Ren were evidently out there in the galaxy, but whom did Kylo return to? The Sith could be stalking the shadows even as the Jedi stood in this forest, but was Vader not redeemed from darkness? What did it take for them to find the light? Vayla knew that answer and that’s what was tearing at her. It took a lightsaber to cast the light; it took combat, at least in part, and for the Jedi the sword was the shield of the innocent. But when is the sword no longer a shield?

The woman’s thoughts didn’t have long to twist and turn as Mila spoke. There was an angle to the knight’s speech that Vayla’s judgment had tried to cloud, reminding her that the greatest sword was knowledge—the proper knowledge. In the face of ignorance, reasoning and rationale could turn one’s path. The sentiment stretched back to Ben and Anakin. Vayla hoped that she would never have to clash blades with these outsiders, but if she crossed paths with them then the first step must be to appeal to them with words, not war. Though even war might arise from words.

“I trust your experience,”
Vayla spoke to Mila. “And I rely on your guidance,” she acknowledged Oren, then addressed the group. “Ultimately, though, it is the knowledge of the Force that will guide us through experience. May it be with us all.”

The Padawan stayed silent throughout the discussion, listening to the various arguments and calls for which path to take in the near future. He did not went to take a communication chip however, knowing that Vayla already got one and that he wouldn't really know what to do with one anyway. It was when his master spoke again that the Blood Carver decided to offer his thoughts on the matter as well,

"Few knoow this, but I was a meember of a shamanic order of Foorce users naative to my plaa-net called the Faar-seekers."

The alien Padawan begun with the croak,

"I becaame first in my faamily line who did not finish their traai-ning and joined this ancient Order instead. I did so becaause we know little of Jedi Order, I was currious and wanted to bring more knoow-ledge on it to my people, and because it was adveen-ture."

Ke Eoto finished with a groan, his eyes fixated upon the floor in front of him at first as he recalled his first days of looking for the Jedi, his mind wandering over the memories before he looked up, pale-blue eyes looking to Mila,

"We should make pooint to under-stand why soome would join their ranks or defeect from this Order if that is how they gain meem-bers. Perhaps they were like I was and simply sought or found them insteead of us, perhaaps there are otheer reasons than simple curio-sity about their teeachings. To me every Sith could haave been, and could be still, a Jedi."

The Blood Carver explains his stance, bending lightly at the waist to bow to Mila and Oren especially,

"But these are my thooghts and I surren-der to the judgement of your expeer-ience on the matter."
