PERSONALITY:
Having grown up very much aware that she is merely a tool for others to make use of, Bana places no value on her life beyond the price she is sold for, and simply lives for the moment. Pain is as inconsequential to her as pleasure, unless they contribute to her completing a required task, though she still tries to avoid getting hurt since any scars might diminish her worth. While she's independent and skilled when it comes to completing her tasks, she has very little initiative and no experience in setting her own agenda beyond the very basics in her daily life.
Free (?) for the first time in her life, Bana is facing a new and unknown situation where she might actually have to decide for herself what to do next. This frightens her on a level she can't quite articulate.
BIOGRAPHY:
Bana doesn't know what planet she was born on, but she knows she was sold into service to a Hutt's court at an early age as part of a larger deal intended to settle her parents' debt. Making herself useful and staying out of trouble, she quickly adjusted to her new life, viewing her master, Jhazuq the Hutt, as a distant and forbidding father figure to whom she owed her loyalty.
Primarily doing mundane tasks like cleaning and laundry, it was eventually discovered that she had a knack for finding out things, making Jhazuq a nice amount of money in the process – enough money that he decided she should be trained more thoroughly in this particular skillset. Apprenticing under a bothan also serving on the Hutt's court, Bana was drilled in information gathering and methods for getting around unnoticed until it became second nature for her to do so. Growing into an intelligent and capable teenager, she would find herself rewarded for especially successful work, and while she had little, she had what she needed and what she wanted.
Always in need of more money, Jhazuq eventually took to hiring out Bana's services to the highest bidder, increasing his own earnings. Officially, he was the one handing over the information, but Bana was the one to procure it. Then after a catastrophic failure on someone else's part the Hutt suffered a financial hit and was forced to sell off assets including Bana, by now a young woman, to save his own hide.
The ambitious Nubian politician Luis Dekal, occasionally involved in shady dealings for which he kept a very low profile and a well-covered back, purchased Bana's work contract intending to put it to good use against his political rivals, some of which were much less careful about their ties to various shady practices than he would ever dream of.
Leaving the Hutt's court with as little as she had when she arrived, Bana was moved to Nubia, home of grav-ball and ronto racing, joining Dekal's household. Officially the politician, loved by his public, had hired a new assistant secretary. In reality, Bana worked as she did before. The only changes to her life being her targets and the master who held her leash. Thanks to information she gathered, Dekal made great progress against his political rivals. His only mistake was to go off-planet, bringing Bana along to “assist” in brokering some deals that would make him a significant player even outside of Nubia. Never suspecting foul play until armed men stormed the meeting area and abducted him and his charge, Luis Dekal would curse himself while in the pirates' hold awaiting a ransom payment which might or might not come from his always suspicious wife. Bana, however, chose this opportunity to do something totally new; Escape.
She'd noticed something odd going on among the pirates, a tense feeling which seemed to be building up during a short time window. Her instinct told her this was it; the moment she'd never been looking for but which would allow her to leave her old life behind. She didn't wait to ponder the decision, just slipped out of her bonds and walked away, grabbing a few items she thought she might need along the corridors leading to the docking bay. She entered a freighter which seemed prepared to leave, and hid herself in one of its specialized smuggling compartments, not even once questioning the instinct which brought her there. Only after the ship took off did she finally start thinking about what would come next. Knowing nothing of what lay ahead both excited and frightened her.
