Blue Sunset Contractors.

They were the company who had arranged for the genemods and the cybernetics to be made. They were the ones who had financed and supplied the laboratory that had actually conducted the experiments. And they were the ones who had taken vulnerable people from their homes with the promise that they were agreeing to some cosmetics testing for cold hard cash. At this point Lorcan knew most of the scheme; he knew the end result was the creatures he had been forced to kill and he knew that the biomedical company out on the outer rim had been responsible for the creation of the treatments and parts.

But the Blue Sunset Contractor PMC group was the reason that any of it had actually ever happened. The evidence he had collected so far showed that it was the case but what he needed now was the final proof. Proof that not only showed that it was them but showed WHY they had done it; something that would show their motive incredibly clearly to the courts when their trial was held. If Lorcan went to the courts and the Rangers with what he had so far he wouldn't get them destroyed by the courts, their lawyers would be able to use the lack of a defined motive against their case.

So it was time to get the last piece of the puzzle.

The PMC had it's main offices and training facility on Coruscant itself and even now they were advertising for the treatment. Even now people could walk right in, say they wanted to take part in the testing, and they would be accepted. Of course they were deliberately picking people from the lower levels; the people who couldn't actually read. He could have called this in and maybe gone in with Ranger back up but he didn't want to risk the careers of those he knew... and he didn't want to risk being arrested by them rather than aided.

Once it was over?

Then he would give himself up.

For now though he had another ally.

"You ready for this Doc?"
he questioned her quietly as they sat in an abandoned building across the way from the facility, "These people are trained killers and they won't stop if we go in there."

Probably not something he needed to remind her of but he felt the need to ensure she knew exactly what they were in for.

"Are we any different?" she quipped calmly, giving her companion a side-eyed glance.

Truth be told, it was life or death every time she stepped down from her ship. If she died now, it hardly mattered. She was here not because there was anything personal at stake, or that he held any answers she needed. No... he was another credits source, another employer, but if her gut feelings were right he wasn't the first dirty cop she came in contact with.

No, he may not have been the first, but she wasn't sure yet if he would be the last. They had recovered from Ryloth, she had made sure of that.

But if he was dirty... perhaps he wouldn't hesitate to toss her under the bus once this was all over.

Well, joke was on him. She was a doctor first, and she only shot to stun. Still... she contemplated something with a bit more punch to it. Being stunned was all well and good, but it was a damned inconvenience some days.

Heh.

It hurt to admit that he was a trained killer because it painted him in the same light as these degenerates but, well, he had been trained and he had killed people. In the pursuit of this case he had killed five people, seven if he included the unwitting test subjects who had been twisted into monsters. But it was those last two deaths, those last two tormented people, that made him certain that what he was doing was worth it.

Taking a deep breath, Lorcan headed out with the Doc alongside him. Joining the line, he waited in tense silence as the line inched closer to the main administration building of the complex. Once they were inside they were marched up to a desk where a woman with a very plastic smile greeted them.

"Hello there you two! Joining up as a pair I see - how romantic!"

Deeply twisted idea of romance aside, Lorcan wasn't going to miss using the excuse to stick close to the Doc.

"Oh yes well we needed the credits so..."

The woman nodded and did her best to look understanding - she managed to look constipated but not understanding or anything far removed from condescending. Taking the two datapads that held the contracts, they were released into a lounge area. Looking over the contract he tutted.

"... this is nothing but fluff. Do they think no one here can read?"

She just barely managed to not pull the trigger on the receptionist.

Seriously, who was this woman fooling? She gritted her jaw and managed a plastic smile of her own, amber eyes cold.
"Isn't it just so romantic," she almost hissed through her teeth, barely managing to scrape up some sugary voice of her own before taking the datapad and stalking after her companion.

She glanced over the agreement, and sighed, closing her eyes. A headache was already flickering to the fore.
"...Probably," she murmured huskily, allowing her emotions to settle to neutral once more.

"...Avoiding guns blazing, but if I will be frank, people like this disgust even me,"
she rasped quietly, knuckles whitening against the edge of her datapad. "I understand data research, and even laud some experimentation... but this thinly veiled chop shop is..." she took a deep breath, easing her grip on the datapad and filling in some useless information. A false pseudonym, some vague verifiable facts. It seemed the only genuine questions were height, weight, and any recent surgeries.

Well.

They would soon find out, wouldn't they.

Guns blazing wouldn't get them anywhere right now. They were in the middle of enemy territory surrounded by Coruscant itself; if they didn't get killed by the security then they could simply call down the local law on them and things would go south fast. Taking a deep breath, Lorcan could admit to himself that the urge to take these people down using lethal methods was... strong. Stronger than it had any right to be considering his training and his profession.

It was something he needed to control.

"They've four main blocks here; armory, barracks, administration and medical."
he recited from his memory of the publicly available plans for the complex, "We need to secure solid proof that these scumbags knew exactly what they were doing and why they were doing it; as much as that might seem like it would be in the medical wing, I think we need to head for the administration building."

He wanted a cigara.

"Bureaucracy for a company this big must be a swamp; literally everything will have a file and if we can secure the private files of one of the leaders then all the better."
he reasoned before turning back to the Doc, "We'll need a distraction; thoughts?"

She was honestly slightly annoyed that he already had a plan of sorts when he could have clued her in literally any time that they had before getting together for this hare-brained scheme. She felt a deep internal sigh well up, but didn't bother releasing it; he mentioned needing a distraction.

Her gaze panned over their surroundings, the gears clicking away. She could feel his need to tear this place down brick by brick; he said before this wasn't a personal matter, but for some reason he took it in a deeply personal matter, and that made him close to being a dangerous liability. That was the danger with running with people without professional channels, she reasoned. There was a risk of recklessness that led to serious injury or consequence.

"You mentioned this was a low-income neighborhood... how low?"
she asked quietly, hands in her pockets. "Perhaps low enough that ten credits would see them through a week..."

There were a couple others sitting with them, mostly humanoid. All of them reeked one desperation or the other... and she could bet her bottom credit they would be desperate enough for a couple more credits than what they were already offering. She glanced over to where the receptionist crouched; the room was steadily filling up, and all of them reeked with desperation, with hunger, with a desire to get above their fellow resident...

Inwardly, she felt a delicious sense of vicious joy that such people that left a stain upon her vested interests would get the justice they deserved... and she would take great delight in fun at the expense of their pain.

"Hey. Psst."

She leaned towards one filthy, ragged human female; the girl blinked at her slowly, eyes almost glazing over. "Yuh?"

"Didn't you hear?" Ilana glanced furtively around, amber eyes denting into her best show of worry. "I jus' did; I heard they was not payin' us right away, an' that it weren't enough, corrdin' to my sister. Ain't it a shame?" The girl suddenly stiffened... then turned her eyes towards her neighbor.

Ilana glanced towards her companion, her voice low.
"Unfortunately... I have too much experience with hard places. Watch." Sure enough, word spread quickly, as people began to mutter, enough for the receptionist to take notice. Some people began to get visibly angry, some of whom held datapads like theirs.. and were getting up to stalk towards the receptionist.

She didn't even need to listen in to know they were talking about up-front payment for application; she could already see the woman's face go white, much to her satisfaction.

"D'ye think we're stupid?" another man hollered in the back.

That started them off.

Nothing like angry, rioting people desperate for a couple extra credits to get riled up over getting stiffed. She tugged at his arm, tilting her head.
"So then. Sufficient enough? Let's go."

She had to wait... he was the mastermind, apparently. Like these poor working stiffs, she was just here for the credits.

It was nothing personal, it was just good business.

Well when he asked for a distraction it seemed as though the good doctor was happy to give him exactly what he needed. He grinned a little bit as she sowed chaos throughout the whole area with nothing but a few words. If he was the kind who gave praise he would doubtlessly be singing her praises to the heavens.

"Nicely done."

... which was basically the same thing from someone as much of a hardass as Lorcan was. She probably understood that right?

He gestured with his head for her to follow him as he made his way over to the administration building. Reaching one of the ground floor windows was easier than the doors so he walked up to one. Looking around it's edge he drew his vibroblade in one hand and, using his body to shield it from view, started to slice through the locks that held the window closed.

"Hey you wandered away from the group!"

Only for an annoyingly perky guard to notice them.

"... Erm yeah. We were just not really interested in the mad rush you know?"

Kark, he was going to have to kill the guard wasn't he?

She glanced between the guard and her companion. Of course he had to still be totally covered, which made this all the more difficult. Meeting this man's eyes... now that was the difficult part. She stepped forward; her voice was low, one hand subtly waving out of view of both her companion and their new eager guard.

Her voice was persuasive, low. His eyes met her own... and she gave a slight smile.

"We're not one of them. We're one of you. You saw nothing... you are going to let us move along." She watched the brief struggle within the turning of his mind, and finally...

He nodded, his stiff posture relaxing.
"Move along, this place is dangerous. I have a job to do..." he muttered, then grimaced, shaking his head and walking off, mumbling to himself.

She exhaled as he did, then turned to Lorcan, expression as cool and remote as ever.
"No time to waste, shall we?"

He would probably ask. If he got too curious... well.

There were ways to quell that curiosity.

Well thank the Galaxy for someone who could actually talk to people. Sighing a little bit, he wanted to run a hand over his brow but, still, helmet so... yeah. Oh well. He had never been much of a talker and the fact that the Doc was meant he had picked well for the partner to cover his personal failings. Lorcan immediately finished breaking the lock with his knife and gotten them inside with it - he held it open for Doc first before jumping in himself.

He closed the window but the lock was still broken so it was still a decent exit.

As soon as he was through the window he grabbed Doc by the shoulder with one hand. His other hand was close to his hidden blaster pistol but that was honestly more by force of habit than any other reason. Still though, he had something that needed to be addressed before they continued.

"So."
he stared at her through the unblinking eyes of his helmet, "The Force huh? This the part where you pull out a red lightstick?"

She turned to face him, brows raised. "Um... no?" she replied blandly, seeming more bemused than anything. "I prefer to shoot my way through a problem usually, but that seemed a bad idea at the time; is that what medical hypnosis is?" she tilted her head at him, face cool, daring him to comment. "But if you don't believe me... go ahead and check me."

Men like him worked with a strict compass; getting angry or aggressive was hardly the answer. But if he was going to pose a problem, she would have absolutely no qualms stunning him and leaving him to face his own vigilante justice; a handful of credits was not worth a plausible problem if he was going to pursue the problem.

Kark.

She was definitely someone using the Force but there was basically no way for someone who couldn't feel the Force to tell the difference between a Sith or a Jedi until they got started. He grunted once before releasing her. It was dangerous to be around Sith or Jedi but only the Sith tended to be an active threat to your life. The Jedi tended to kind of just attract danger to themselves and that was what endangered you.

He wanted a smoke.

"Alright Sithie I'm not gonna go on about this."
he told her bluntly, "Attempt to kark with my mind though and I'll plant a blade in your eye."

Lorcan really hated the idea of a Force user trying to mess with his head but ignored it. Following one of the pathways through the administration building, Lorcan frowned ever so slightly before following his gut. As he did so he took a few odd turns that didn't seem to make sense... until the door they arrived at was actually rather well secured and unmarked. He hummed once as he eyed the door oddly for a moment.

"Alright then."

He reached up and pressed the button - the door opened smoothly, not having been locked, to reveal one of the main offices of a rather high up member of the board, the CFO.

"Watch the entrance and I'll search his files."

She rolled her eyes, her raspy voice bemused. "As if even a bored child would want to rattle around in that head, soldier boy," she replied, stalking to follow. Honestly, did everyone assume that just because you did something you couldn't explain, that it had to be Sith-related? How predictably dull. He was right... but he didn't have to be so dull about it.

But if he assumed and reported her, he would prove a greater liability than a source of credits. She would have to dispose of him quickly if he turned tail on her.

...A pity, she enjoyed that snarky attitude.

"Fine," came the reply, standing before the door with a poised stance.

...Huh.

Seemed as though her distraction in the waiting room proved to work a little too well; nobody showed. Nonetheless, she had her blaster out of its' holster and set to stun.

You never knew what could happen, even though for the time being they had seemingly earned some respite.

Yeah she could make her jokes about it but he would very much kill her if she did something Force-related to his mind. He might be an arse but he liked having control of his own mind and he wasn't going to have even the slightest risk that someone could change that.

He wouldn't report her if she made the wrong move with her Force powers because what sane Ranger admitted he murdered someone after all?

As he was routing around in the drawers, he noticed that one of them seemed shorter than the others. Going back to it, he tapped on the back of the drawer for a second... before pulling away the false back that had covered the final files. Pulling them out, he set them down on the desk and looked over them quickly.

Honestly he could barely believe it.

"It's all here."

He placed a hand to his face and tried to slow his racing heart at the success they had.

"Everything - the purchase of the warehouse initially, it's purchase orders for the lab equipment I found there, payments to that outer rim company, original memos talking about messing with the wording of fake contracts for those below and... a list of 'trustworthy' Rangers and local police..."

Kark.

He knew he had been keeping the investigation a secret for a good reason but seeing the names in black and white right there? Shaking slightly, he took pictures of every document before handing half to Doc to hide on her person.

"In case we get caught."
he explained as he hid his half away before taking a deep breath, "We get a recorded confession by the CFO and this is blown wide open - any sign of him?"

She couldn't believe it.

All this... and yet it seemed so easy. Perhaps she would speak too soon in saying that the mission had gone almost ridiculously smoothly, but it felt wrong to feel like they were out of the bag just yet. She took her half of the sheaf of documents, tucking them away into her pocket, then shook her head.

"Still all clear. Perhaps we should hunt him down, or...?"
the words trailed off, head tilted slightly. "We could wait and ambush him. This distraction might be quelled fairly quickly." Referring to the distraction she sowed earlier. She merely waited to see what he thought; though knowing he was after information, suspicion still prickled at the back of her mind. Something seemed wrong here... but she would wait for action until after they were free and clear.

Then she would see about getting a clean break from this man and this odd twist of dirty work.

Great they had the evidence in writing but it wasn't a slam dunk without someone actually admitting to culpability. With what they had here it was enough to force a court case and, eventually, take them down but it would take years and with reduced sentences. No doubt some of the victims who were still alive would find themselves facing sudden blaster-shaped accidents down the line as well to further weaken the case against the company.

Blast it all.

If they stayed here then their existing distraction was going to resolve itself but he would be damned if he left here with nothing more than a case that wouldn't get the buggers as hard as they needed to be had. He took a deep breath before scowling a little bit and moving over to the CFO's console.

"This will probably go badly - get ready to cut and run."
he advised his mission partner, "If they won't come to us... we need to go to where we know they'll be and during an emergency they'll head for their secure vehicles to escape, which are located in the vehicle bay."

He raised a finger.

"All we have to do is cause that emergency."

Pressing the alarm button, red lights began flashing around the compound and the alarms started to sound. Almost immediately afterwards he could hear sirens from police vehicles... as in within the space of thirty seconds.

"What the hell...? How could they get here so fast?"

Looking out the window, he spotted a trip of armed local police taking a chip from one of the security guards before entering the building. He scowled, the urge to kill something rising within him as he observed the clear purchase of cops meant to serve and protect the public and not their own self-interests.

"Dirty karking cops..."

450

He had to remind himself that the purpose of the mission was NOT to kill every dirty karker cop they had on their payroll but it was a near thing.

"Let's move."

"Must have been the riot," she muttered, mostly to herself. It was true, perhaps, that people upstairs had put two and two together, and that was why the office was abandoned. Yes.

Abandoned.

She felt idiotic. All this hard work, only to be caught in the middle with dirty cops. And perhaps a dirtier one with her... why else would he go to such lengths to get what was essentially information from here? By the time he had already made the brilliant thought process to get out, she was already striding, down towards one of the other side doors. Perhaps one of them led to the vehicle bay; if they could obtain the CFO with minimal bloodshed, then perhaps she could make her break for it.

Until then, she would have to play along.

"Come," she ground out, holding the door open. "You go ahead, I'll take the back." She would wait until he would get out himself, but just as she was shutting the door one of the cops barreled through, and raised his blaster in her direction.

"Kark," was all she managed to utter when he squeezed off a shot, right by her head. She twisted away, then shut the door, shoving at Lorcan.

"Move, now! No time for grandstanding."

No there wasn't any time for grandstanding.

Moving almost fluidly around her as she shoved at him, he drew his pistol from it's hiding place and drew it. It was such a fluid motion that capping it off with a blast that barked outward harshly. The cop had enough time to move his weapon towards Lorcan himself before his shot connected, blasting the cop's skull wide open and killing him in a single hit.

Lorcan glared down at the dirty cop before spitting at his corpse.

"Now we can go."

The others would likely not be far behind but when presented with a chance to end a dirty cop he took it and damned be the consequences... of which he knew there would be many. There was only his word and some payments to police officers in the evidence they had collected that said these men were dirty but he didn't care all too much.

Moving down the corridor, he reached the vehicle bay. Kicking the door, the doors opened to reveal a very panicked-looking CEO and a pair of bodyguards. He scowled.

"Hands up and guns down!"
he barked, aiming at the CEO, "Sector Rangers - and you're all in deep shite!"

Kark.

She freakin' knew it!

Apparently, one of the bodyguards also didn't take too kindly to being told to have 'hands down' by the crazy armored man barking out orders, because they took aim at Lorcan.

Well, that wouldn't do, he owed her a giant pile of credits.

She shoved him to the side and caught the shot to the side just as she was reaching for her own stun to pull, making her grunt out in pain and spin to her knees. She didn't have time to squeeze off a shot, but with the dirty cops at their back and the bodyguards trying to pull the terrified CEO to the safety of the vehicles, their time was running out. The armor kept most of the damage at bay, but kriff that still burned.

Their quarry wasn't going to get away with this. They had evidence, illegally obtained... which meant that someone was going to take the fall for all this.

She had a sinking feeling she was meant to be the scapegoat. She'd have to make a break for it herself eventually, but had to bide her time to get out, and drop the evidence back to him.

Karking Sector Rangers getting their noses in everything, and kark her for getting involved with some helmet-head with two brain cells and a hard-on for bad justice.

Why did no one ever stop when an officer of the law demanded that they stop? It was a one-way ticket to getting either shot, stunned, punched or otherwise taken down and yet people insisted on throwing themselves at Rangers every day. Unfortunately for the bodyguards, Lorcan was really only worried about taking the CEO back alive.

Landing on the ground as Doc pushed him over, he fired twice from his prone position, hitting each of the bodyguards in the shin. As they collapsed to the ground he fired twice more, executing both of the bodyguards with cold efficiency. Getting himself back to his feet, he helped Doc get herself up as he switched his pistol to stun settings.

"Same thing again."
he declared ominously to the retreating CEO, "Surrender - NOW!"

Of course no one ever surrendered when cornered by the Rangers either.

Instead the CEO pressed a panic button and the door opened to reveal two of the corrupt cops from earlier, their weapons raised and suddenly it was more of a stand-off than a shoot-out.

"Coruscant Security, stand down or be fired upon!"
one of them called out and before Lorcan could say or do anything, he continued, "Sir! Sir you are taking lethal action against Coruscant Security! I must exercise the same level of violence for my own safety!"

... that dirty cop karker.

She was surprised he helped her back up before the appearance of the two dirty cops. Annoyance sparked in her blood, and she gritted her jaw at their use of violence. She drew her own pistol, golden eyes narrowed with cold anger as they continued advancing towards them.

"Sir! Ma'am! I must ask you to stand down! I will--"

The other one had much faster reflexes than his companion, too fast actually. As she was aiming to stun, the shot caught her in the stomach.

She cried out as she fell, twisting away. Pain radiated out form her gut at the intense burn, more than she'd ever felt before. If she would try to get up again, it would hurt like nothing else. For now, she could just hope that this crazy man could handle the situation before any other slippery officers got an itchy trigger finger.
