Would I do a tech plot (3 threads) if I wanted to get say a dozen basic grenades, a basic tracking device, and a basic gun? It's all basic stuff, but because I want a good amount of stuff, would this be the way to do it? Or are tech plots more for advanced tech? Maybe this much gear is too much...

My GA character Abrakhal Grisgoh (link in signature) is just about through the process of being approved and I'd like him to learn from/with someone, even if they're not a formal Master per se. Maybe even just a couple missions together. Teach him to fight and use the Force!
