You can say that. The 'Darkness' has a life of it's own, and it's able to some what 'trap' and conceal him within the darkness. Where ever there is darkness, like a shadow or a darkened corner, he can kind of 'teleport' there and emerge from it. If there is no darkness, or a lot of light, the darkness can take a life of it's own and consume it, but the process takes time, rather than, per'se, a dark cave, which is perfect for him to move around.
