BIOGRAPHY
They say that Lando Calrissian started his days as a smuggler and filmed "the Calrissian Chronicles" about his exploits. I thought I'd try that, and now that I have this stupid recorder on, I feel like an idiot. I was born on Nar Shaddaaa, but I was never a slave like so many of my people. I guess if there's a bright side to my life then that's it. As bad as my life was, it could have been so much worse. I know what others who look like me have to do just to survive.
My dad ran out on my mom before I was born, and my moms was a spice addict. I tried spice for the first time when I was nine. It was just a way of life. My mom couldn't even take care of herself, let alone me. When she was carried away by the police, it wasn't any surprise or any loss, really.
I had to learn to survive on my own pretty quickly, and the quickest way to pay for things on Nar Shaddaa was crime. I hooked up with a crew and we started with small time breaking and entering and moved up to boosting speeders. I learned how to take them apart and put them back together, too. Speeder stripping got me a job in a mechanic shop that doubled as a chop shop during my teen years.
It just kept escalating from there. Speeder boosting turned to freighters that we'd strip, sell, or repurpose. It was a smooth operation we were a part of, but not smooth enough. We got on the bad side of another group of pirates after stealing the wrong ship, and they came after us. If I'd been there, I would have been killed along with all the rest of my friends.
With no one left but me, I took the ship we'd used for our jobs as my own and started running freight and passengers on the legitimate side while doing smuggling and thieving on the side. I don't care about allegiances or laws. The only people who were ever there for me were my old crew. Not my family, or the law, or any nation, so I owe allegiance to no one.
I guess that's pretty much it... I don't even know why I bothered with this stupid thing. This was a terrible idea. Delete recording.
SKILLS AND PERSONALITY
Vera's life has been shaped almost entirely by a difficult upbringing. She learned quickly that success was about learning quickly and adapting. Because of her history, she is slow to trust others as well as extremely self-reliant and stubborn. She takes pride in what she does and doesn't feel that she owes her loyalty to anyone who hasn't earned it.
Given the history of slavery that her people have historically suffered, she detests the idea of anyone else having authority over her, which contributes to her reason for working independent of any other organization at this time.
Because she believes she must be capable of doing everything herself, she has developed a wide variety of skills. Most of those skills involve something to do with ships or stealing things. Breaking through security systems, flying, mechanical repairs, and slicing are all well within her wheelhouse. Although she is an adequate shot to defend herself if the situation calls for it and has learned self defense, she would typically rather run than fight.
