Ilyan's life has been one marked by uncertainty and difficulty. Born as the third child in her family and second cousin of Ashani and Salini Kurvast, Ilyan represented the closest thing that the desert tribes had to nobility: one part priest and one part military officer. A group of warrior Kissai who fought for their people in the thick of battle, coming to be known as "blood blades" due to their unusual techniques and methods of fighting.
Very little is known about the blood blades outside of the desert tribes and many have thought them a myth down through the years until the campaign for Murzana.
When Ashani called for assistance Ilyan went out with her warriors to fight against the Kressh invaders. In the end, though, despite their skill they would meet only with defeat.
Now, with the desert tribes subjugated, it is expected that said "nobility" will also bow the knee to House Kressh. As an assurance of cessation of hostilities between the two groups, Ilyan's duty has shifted from that of warrior-priestess to dutiful suitor, ensuring the survival of her people.
