DESCRIPTION
The ZV-1 Zillo super-heavy tank is an armored ground combat vehicle manufactured by Mobquet Swoops & Speeders. Named for the fearsome Zillo Beast, an enormous apex predator from the planet Malastare, the ZV-1 is really less a tank and more a mobile direct fire artillery platform. 54 meters in length with a crew of 24, plus space for 75 tons of cargo and up to 50 passengers, the Zillo is principally armed with a pair of dual medium turbolaser turrets, each mounted on a swiveling boom array which elevates them high above the hull of the vehicle. These cannons, each of which is powered by a dedicated fusion plant located in the hull of the tank, are not only capable of a high rate of fire, but due to their elevated position they are capable of shooting down into enemy fortifications in many cases, bypassing frontal defenses. They are exceptionally useful for clearing trenches and other dug-in, open-topped positions.

Zillos, despite their enormous size and fearsome armament, do have some notable weaknesses. First of all, the tank is quite slow, capable of just 32 kph on level ground. Though its enormous tracks do give it a great deal of motive power, they are close together, limiting the vehicle's maneuverability. Finally, although the tank's armor is quite thick in most areas, able to resist even heavy laser fire, its close-in defenses consist solely of rows of firing ports, through which any troops or crew-members inside can fire their hand blasters; this is of dubious enough utility against enemy infantry, and no use at all against most vehicles. Although the Zillo's main guns have some limited ability to engage close targets, they are hardly quick or efficient.

In combat, the ZV-1 Zillo is typically escorted by a squadron of ZU-9 Gorocco heavy repulsortanks and their ZU-5 light repulsortank consorts, which protect the Zillo from enemy infantry and vehicles. Properly defended, the Zillo is free to do what it does best, reduce fortifications and similarly massive enemy vehicles to rubble using its turbolasers. Zillos are extremely effective at breaching static defense lines, destroying occupied buildings and similar demolition tasks; when one or more of these gigantic tanks rolls up to a siege line, the defenders would do well to focus any firepower they might have against them.

Unlike the other two members of Mobquet's armored vehicle catalog, the Zillo is not as widely sold, being expensive and thus only available to ground forces with deep pockets and a need for heavy offensive platforms. They are not common sights on the battlefield, and are rightly feared when they appear.

LEGALITY
Restricted. ZV-1 super-heavy tanks are purpose-built combat craft, and are thus generally restricted from civilian ownership on most civilized worlds.

INTENT
To create a new class of super-heavy tank.

RESTRICTIONS
ZV-1 Zillo super-heavy tanks are military vehicles, and in PVP situations their weapons can only be used against other vehicles and starships. They cannot be owned by individual characters, but can be acquired as a faction asset.
