DESCRIPTION
The Zebra-class starfighter is a combat spacecraft which was manufactured by the Hyrotii Corporation in the years immediately following the Clone Wars. Regarded as "generic starfighter product" by most, the Zebra was one of many designs that was severely hamstrung by Imperial-era restrictions on the performance of starfighters intended for commercial sale. It was intended for intra-system patrol and law enforcement duty, although its eventual career was slightly more noteworthy.

The Zebra starfighter is a fairly basic craft, a blunt wedge 12.3 meters in length, seating 1 pilot and 65 kilograms of cargo. The ship has average speed - 100 MGLT - and fairly uninspiring maneuverability, being considered little better than most light freighters. It has no hyperdrive and no deflector screens, typical of starfighters at the time. The craft's only standout feature could be said to be its armament; at a time when light and medium cannons were the norm on most small craft, the Zebra mounted a pair of heavy laser cannons. It is said that, faced with Imperial restrictions, Hyrotii was forced to pick which feature to emphasize, and then balanced the rest of the fighter around it; firepower was evidently decided upon.

The Zebra's main claim to fame is as the starfighter of choice for the fledgling Alliance to Restore the Republic, albeit in the absence of many other options. The type took part in many early Rebel operations, and did not distinguish itself well, finding itself no match for the speed and maneuverability of the Empire's TIE fighters. After the Alliance managed to source more capable designs, the Zebras were rapidly retired from front-line duty, although they did go on to see relatively successful careers in the ground attack role. They were also fairly easy to maintain even under harsh conditions, and were well-liked by the Rebellion's resource-starved ground crews.

Zebra-class starfighters are understandably uncommon in the present day, relegated to cash-strapped law enforcement and small-time pirates. They are very often modified by their owners.

LEGALITY
Restricted. Zebras are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
