DESCRIPTION
The Y-9 Trader light freighter is a cargo transport which was originally developed by the Kaloth corporation during the waning years of the Old Republic. Fairly popular for a time, it was supplanted by more modern designs just prior to the Clone Wars, although it retains something of a following, especially in parts of the Outer Rim. Fast for its class, owing to a trio of outsized drive units whose exhaust bells form a major part of the ship's silhouette, the Y-9 is still used as a tramp freighter, express passenger transport and middle-speed courier. Although no longer produced by Kaloth, the design has been licensed by Rekklemat Products, which builds the type at its factories in the Corporate Sector and sells them through its own dealership network.

The Y-9 Trader best resembles an ancient atmospheric freighter in form, with the blunt, rounded fuselage Kaloth products are known for. The ship's nose is heavily glazed, with panoramic windows wrapping around a forward observation lounge, much appreciated by the up to 12 passengers the ship can carry. The Trader is typically flown by a crew of 3, including a pilot, copilot and sensor operator, although in practice the pilot can fly the ship alone if necessary. The extra crewbeings pull double duty as gunners at the 2 defensive turrets, fending off space debris and pirates who might be after the up to 70 tons of cargo that can be carried. If the guns don't do it, the Trader can pull away at up to 70 MGLT, or run using its class 2 hyperdrive.

LEGALITY
Legal. Light freighters such as the Y-9 Trader are considered innocuous enough under most jurisdictions, and are not restricted in most systems.

INTENT
To bring a ship from Legends canon into our site's fanon, and to flesh out its specifications a bit.
