DESCRIPTION
The XQ4 platform is a class of space station which is produced and sold by the Bengel Shipyards corporation of Ord Thoden. Based directly on the venerable XQ1 design, the XQ4 is a specialized variant for deep space applications, far out at the edges of known space. XQ4s serve as the terminus for numerous established hyperlanes, acting as a "last chance" for explorers pushing on into the unknown to purchase fuel, supplies and repairs. They also serve as anchors for far-flung systems, giving them a link to the wider Galaxy, even if it might be a tenuous one.

The XQ4 is a fairly typical space platform design, consisting of a central core with three "arms" radiating out. The core section contains power, administrative and most crew and passenger accommodations; lesser functions and accommodations are located in the arms. The station by default is equipped with a hospital grade medcenter, a detention block and an aerospace control center. Important areas of the interior are monitored by a holographic surveillance system, typically run by station security. The aerospace control center monitors traffic around the station, as well as any ships coming and going to and from the station's three large hangar bays and numerous external docking ports.

Defense for the station is provided by a heavy deflector shield, as well as 12 light turbolaser turrets scattered across the hull. The station's mounted armaments are not really suitable to engage small craft. Up to 18 starfighters can be accommodated aboard the station, although this is down from the typical 36 in other XQ variants; this is made up for with a standard compliment of 21 shuttles, deemed more useful in the station's intended role.

Of note, stock XQ4 platforms share the XQ1's weakness of having no defensive armament in the underside of their hull. Some side-mounted laser cannons are able to angle down far enough to partially cover this approach, but it is still a notable weak-point.

LEGALITY
Legal. XQ4 platforms are legal to purchase and operate in most of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To add a space station from Legends canon to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
XQ4 platforms are fairly common, but are not easy or cheap to obtain. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player run business venture.
