DESCRIPTION
The XQ3 platform is a class of space station which is produced and sold by a joint venture between the Bengel Shipyards corporation of Ord Thoden and the Telgorn Corporation. Yet another variation on the XQ1 design, the XQ3 is a semi-specialized freight handling station, meant to handle light, medium and bulk freighters visiting a given system. The station can receive and sort cargo, distributing cargo from bulk deliveries to local courier services for delivery, and vice versa. It also retains some small passenger handling capability.

The XQ1 is a fairly typical space platform design, consisting of a central core with three "arms" radiating out. The core section contains power, administrative and most crew and passenger accommodations; lesser functions and accommodations are located in the arms. The station by default is equipped with a sub-hospital grade medcenter, a detention block, an aerospace control center and a freight routing center. Important areas of the interior are monitored by a holographic surveillance system, typically run by station security. The aerospace control center monitors traffic around the station, as well as any ships coming and going to and from the station's three large hangar bays and numerous external docking ports.

Defense for the station is provided by a heavy deflector shield, as well as 12 light turbolaser turrets scattered across the hull. The station's mounted armaments are not really suitable to engage small craft, but up to 36 starfighters and 12 shuttles can be hosted inside the hangars, swarming out to deal with lesser threats when necessary. Most purely commercial stations only keep 12 fighters aboard, allowing them to fit an additional 12 shuttles or other similarly sized craft.

Of note, the XQ3 cannot accommodate bulk freighters in its hangar bays; these craft are typically handled via external docking pylons.

LEGALITY
Legal. XQ3 platforms are legal to purchase and operate in most of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To add a space station from Legends canon to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
XQ3 platforms are fairly common, but are not easy or cheap to obtain. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player run business venture.
