DESCRIPTION
The XQ2 platform is a class of space station which has been produced and sold continuously by the Bengel Shipyards corporation of Ord Thoden since just after the Clone Wars. Based on the XQ1 platform, the XQ2 is a larger, somewhat better appointed variant, meant primarily to serve high-traffic systems.

The XQ2 is a fairly typical space platform design, consisting of a central core with three "arms" radiating out. The core section contains power, administrative and most crew and passenger accommodations; lesser functions and accommodations are located in the arms. The station by default is equipped with a hospital-grade medcenter, a detention block and an aerospace control center. Important areas of the interior are monitored by a holographic surveillance system, typically run by station security. The aerospace control center monitors traffic around the station, as well as any ships coming and going to and from the station's three large hangar bays and numerous external docking ports.

Defense for the station is provided by a heavy deflector shield, as well as 12 light turbolaser turrets scattered across the hull; notably, 3 of these turrets are located on the ventral hull, correcting a blind spot on the original design. The station's mounted armaments are not really suitable to engage small craft, but up to 36 starfighters and 12 shuttles can be hosted inside the hangars, swarming out to deal with lesser threats when necessary. Most purely commercial stations only keep 12 fighters aboard, allowing them to fit an additional 12 shuttles or other similarly sized craft.

XQ2 platforms typically serve as aerospace control nodes to direct space traffic in particularly crowded systems, as well as a way-point for travelers arriving at or departing from a planet. They serve as terminal for large starliners, which disgorge their passengers into stations like the XQ2 for connections to smaller short-haul regional shuttles, which will carry them to spaceports on the surface. Or the reverse. XQ2s are therefore not as common as XQ1s, but serve an equally important role in interstellar travel and commerce.

LEGALITY
Legal. XQ2 platforms are legal to purchase and operate in most of the Galaxy.

INTENT
To add a space station from Legends canon to our site's fanon.

RESTRICTIONS
XQ2 platforms are fairly common, but are not easy or cheap to obtain. They are typically faction assets, although they could also serve as the focal point of a player run business venture.
