WMPD - World Mapping Portable Device
Affiliation:
Open Market
Manufacturer:
Star Mapping Enterprises - Quinn Bokete
Type:
The Device is essentially a computer that scans its surrounding and uploads a comprehensive 3D scaled map to the device. It tracks in a 180 degree arc wherever the wand is pointed and takes approximately 8.5 seconds for a complete map to be constructed when using the wand, but it can be used in motion so if you point it straight and walk forward then it will track the forward position.
Power Supply:
Solar as it's main power supply but it also comes with a rechargeable battery. Quinn charges it when on his ship by plugging it into the console which doubles as its upload port but can also wireless transmit data.
Sensors:
Yes it has three rear sensors, one main sensor and two replacements for the main sensor.
Size:
The portable size can be described as a large back pack also somewhat heavy.
Composition:
Regular metal alloys with some reflective surfaces to provide the solar charge for the battery.
DESCRIPTION
Collects detailed scans of immediate area using a wand and accompanying antenna to remotely transmit data back to the ships console where it is stored, once attached to the speeder bike for better a better wireless transfer of data. The back pack sized mapping device is mainly used for the unreachable areas, though often Quinn uses it just to take a walk on the planet surface if it is a particularly safe area in which he is mapping. The wand sensor can see through walls, notice obstructions, and highlight weak spots. A small screen attached to the wand shows Quinn in real time what the area looks like while he is mapping it. The Device can hold a staggering 3 exabytes of data while mapping, though when taking into account how much data is needed is is usually not enough to scan a very large area.
INTENT
My intentions are strictly character driven. He is a cartographer so he needs a personal mapping device to allow him to explore areas that cannot be seen by satellites.
