What Makes an Officer?

Hibirar sat in one of the chairs in his quarters in front of a caff table. Looking over the pad on there recovered Imp the one who was in charge of that massacre several days before the exile of the Mandalorian people from there home. Hibirar had been there he saw the horrors that happened he was answering there distress signal and sadly only had enough men from the two only to find the planet practically wiped out and if it wasn’t for the timely arrival of The Midway, Bismark, and Endless Dawn him and his rag tag group of Mandalorians might have died protecting the last of the planets survivors. But the imps turned on there own people not surprising but on the moment of there possible victory that was, then again those ships might have got the order to return to possibly support the possible invasion of Mandalorian space. Hibirar was going over the information received by some Bothan spies he hired to investigate her past, and what hey found was a bit suppriseing for an Imperial officer.

A beeping was heard comeing from his desk he placed the pad down and went over to it and pushed the blinking button. “Yes”

“The prisoners awake sir she seemed to have tried to escape we took her back to medical.”

“thank you corporal contact Skirata and have her bring the prisoner to my quarters.”

“Aye sir.”

Hibirar sighed sitting at his desk taking a apple out of a bowl on his desk and taking out his combat knife cutting into it. “This could get troublesome.” He said out loud waiting for the two to arrive. looking out his quarters window as two fighters passed by. and the bow of the endless dawn started to come into view.

Allison got the orders and nodded as she went to the medical bay and began to escort the woman. She was still banged and cut up even after all that had happened. Her and Abigail escorted Toph to the admirals room and entered as Allison saluted and stood there ready. "Sir"

Toph was dressed in fresh clothing she had been bandaged and was able to walk under her own power but she was worried. The large mandalorians were just that large and she right now was small but Xalia was safe she had hidden her near one of the vents and they had passed it. She hadn't been there which meant she had found another hiding place. Slowly Toph spied a window and looked seeing ships this Midway didn't have a lay out she had even seen and she was trying to memorize what she could. It might prove useful later for escape.

Her mind raced down the corridor as she went not thinking about the future well if she had one... If these were who the mercenaries were then she might be in even more trouble. She had killed them without hesitation hell even tricked them out and with food. All she wanted to do was curl up but the chill going down her spine said she needed to go forward. Her mother was still alive and Mandalorian army be damned she would get to her. All those men died for nothing they were just killed because the Sith wanted the ships back. With a look she saw it the door they had to be heading for and Toph braced herself for pain. Perhaps they were going to torture her for information. Ha they could have it but maybe they were going to threaten Xalia then she would have to fight or convince them the pair were better off alive together.

When the door opened she heard the one speak with her muscles and black hair. She was nearly two feet smaller then the two mandalorians and while she was being held Toph made the effort and stepped forward trying to put her body into a parade stance as her mind told her to step to attention. Which hurt her back had a large slice she had learned across it. Then she finally took the man in who was in front of her. She had been there in the valley she remembered he had over the coms told the men to wait before eating the food they sent. Toph would have chuckled hell she had been facing a mandalorian higher up and didn't even know it. But she didn't speak yet no not yet the set of his jawline and the way he sliced the apple with his knife instead of biting in. He was smarter then the others in the room but based on how his two two built brains didn't need to factor in when the amazons could right now crush her easily.

Toph finally spoke and still felt a strain not on her words but on her body she wanted to sit down and be at ease but would get it done first as she spoke. "I am Wing Commander Toph Kitara serial number 1-825-243-11." A name her rank and serial number was all he needed for now she wasn't going to say she was an agent one of the people who assassinated and killed everyone who disagreed. She had to keep some secrets. "Under article 16 of the Shadow Proclamation I seek asylum from the Sith Empire."

"Shadow proclamation? Never heard of it." Commander Jenna Wolf Brevin Commander of the Elite Mandalorian Rangers had followed the procession into the High Admirals office, her Uncle was on his way over from the Endless Danw and her own ship the Kitty Hawk was running Parallel to the Midway, she was standing there in full dress uniform, Black Combat boots, Black Cargo pants, Black Uniform top, Black Beret and the Ranger signature Black leather Duster, he Side arm the DE-10 heavy pistol was visible in a holster on her thigh, she looked the woman up and down before moving past her, stopping she saluted the admiral and then turned back to face the woman and stood at parade rest.

Admiral Par'jila Brevin commander of the Endless Dawn was walking down the corridor of the Midway he had caught a shuttle over for this specific interview, an interesting find they had made and one he intended very much to make use of, as he entered the Admiral quarters he saluted the man and then looked at his Niece she always was extremely military minded, he leaned heavily on his Mythosaur bone cane as he peared at the woman, his Cybernetic eye scanning her.
"She's clean sir, no tracers, no nanites, nothing to indicate she's being followed or listened to by outside sources, but just in case." He pulled out a small device from his trench coat pocket and activated it setting it on the table.
"ECM generator, new toy we plan on utilizing in the field."

Hibirar smiled at how wing Commander Kitara responded it wasn't surprising, most military had techniques for torture, interigation and denying intelligence to there enemies Mandalorians had pride there honor and strong heads, everyone else had words to repeat over and over. he nodded at the admirals diagnosis and device he took out.

"Good now that everyone's here please why don't you take a seat Wing commander Toph Kitara Serial number 1-825-243-11." He said motioning to one of the couches in the room "Commander, Admiral." hibirar followed up offering them a seat as well. he then got up from his desk, tugging on his uniform a bit passing the pad he was reading to Allison "I'd like you to finish reading this and come back to me what you think Stray hunter." Hibirar said to allison before dismissing her for some time, he then picking up the bowl of fruit he then turned his attention to Toph with a smile "you must be hungry after being in the Bacta tank for ten days." he said placing the bowl in front of her offering her some of the fruit it was a bit of a cruel joke.

"I've heard of the shadow proclamation but that's with the Alliance not the Mandalorians, but I have to wounder why would you want asylum from your own government unless you did something to piss them off in that valley Wing Commander Kitara."

Toph looked around the room, the two who had brought her in were dismissed it left just her and the other three. Toph breathed deep as she sat down and her muscles relaxed. Now she wasn't busy trying to keep standing and took in the room or more importantly the other two in it. She actually missed the two amazons for a moment they were brutes and could snap her like a twig but she imagined she could out think them. She might have even been able to use them to protect Xalia if she needed it. Tophs eyes made quick darts between the three not going to the fruit yet.

The man who scanned her was older the oldest in the room but not the highest rank. He was built well maybe a little pudge but you knew he was a soldier. Years on the bridge hadn't shaken that walk and those cybernetics helped also. Toph took in the rest of him for a fraction of a second and noticed the cane but there was also the device. That was curious to her and she remained still in the seat not making a move until she sized the others up.

Then she took in the woman, tall slender but muscled and all business. She wanted to joke and say at she could relax but given none seemed to be joking she felt her face remain blank. She couldn't get a feel more her but she did know enough about the mandalorians from intelligence. If she had to guess this was one of the mandalorians elite teams commanders something she would have been interested in.

Finally she looked at the fruit the one in charge offered, she wanted to laugh because he was right she was the one starving and now was being offered fruit. It was ironic but her hand came up and she grabbed a plum taking it back to her lap and checking it first for bruising and then for tampering. She would have asked for a knife to slice it into it but didn't think she would get one. Quickly she drove her thumbs into the sides and split it along the seam getting to halves and removed the pit. Finally she split that in half and slid the wedge into her mouth first prodding it with her tongue to make sure then she bit into it and felt the relief. IVs may be able to keep you alive but they were not a substitute for the real thing.

After she tested and ate the four pieces Toph finally started to speak as she looked up at the man locking eyes with him. "You were there, the Empire turned on us and left my people for dead. Then they blew us up.... Blew me up." She had to be smart, if he didn't know about Xalia she could protect her get her out and to safety.

"I was but I still wounder why they turned on you and took such drastic actions, especially since I be leave your mother was in charge of one of the Imperial vessel in orbit I be leave it was called the abbadon, I have to admit she gave me a run for my money before I gave the order for my vessels to pull out and bring re-enforcements as I lead the ground group to defend the last of the civilians you and your unit were slaughtering."
He said looking at the women he could see something in her eyes something that drove some people either completely insane or gave them the will to live, or for worse completely breaks them. he took a sigh he wanted to probe what path she was going down but he had to find out more about her personality Allison Initially wanted to recruit her since she was abandoned by the empire. Jenna wanted her for intelligence it was up to him to see if she could be turned to there cause or even be used.

"I regret to inform you though you were the only survivor grant it we tried to save several others but they died in transit or just killed them selves rather than be captured. one of my officer pulled you out of rocks, and what she could only describe as a completely chard Twe'lik, a sith she believed since she was carrying this." Hibirar said pulling out the damaged light saber and placing it on the table.

Toph was still, she listened to the second part and tried to keep from shaking as she looked at the broken lightsaber and brought her hand out. It tapped it just to make sure it was real and then her hand slowly touched it fully. She felt the weight in her hands and cradled it bringing it closer as a small tremor was in her hand. Slowly Toph turning it over and held the end over her heart while looking into the metal as her reflection. Her mind raced and she looked next to her as the scent of leather and fresh rain reached her nose. She saw a lekku twitch and could feel it on her cheek as a gloved hand traced hers then patted her hand. She looked into Xalia's eyes and saw her own. Not the jade orbs she had seen for eight years while they worked together. She heard her voice in her ear soothing and caring. That wasn't Xalia she was fierce she was fury and carnage and death. "You know what happened your brain is just trying to protect you. We'll see each other again Toph. We'll walk together for eternity hand in hand through hell."

Toph felt warm streaks as she looked back down at the saber and brought it to her face. She was alone, it made sense she had seen Xalia burnt in a flash and become ash and the ash became dust in her hands as it seeped into her uniform. Toph was still crying she knew it and she looked up through blurry tear stained vision at Hibarir as her chest heaved and sobs came out. "She... she... she was everything to me. Please she can't be dead." Toph pulled her knees up to her body and buried her head in them as she had another sob rip through her chest and fresh tears come out. It was all there everything from when she was a little girl and wasn't allowed to cry to hearing about her father to... to when Xalia first raped her. She had never really cried but let it all out as her face was buried in her lap and the lightsaber was in her hands.

It lasted for fifteen minutes until finally no more tears would come, her eyes were dry and her chest made silent heaves. She wanted to die... She wanted to hurt something... she wanted revenge most of all. He had mentioned her mother and as she looked up her hands a death grip on the lightsaber. She would never let it go she would remember above all else. She had to remember the one good thing she had in the galaxy and who took it away. Toph spoke slowly almost in a trance as she didn't look up just kept her face on the lightsaber.

"My... my mother? She did this, no one else would have done it but her. She, the crew anyone who had a part in this I want them." Toph felt it... A fire in her muscles anger was good it could help you, keep you warm, keep you alive. It tore through anything and everyone who stood before it and she was that rage. The Empire had taken it all from her now she wanted to take it back she would find a face didn't matter anyone who served them and kill him... Then she would hunt for another and another until finally she found her way to the Abbadon and her mother. She would pay her back.

Jenna grinned as she watched the woman let out all her emotions.
"You know I've never been good at this female bonding crap, but I like her, she looks like she's ready to punch something." Jenna stood up and walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder gently, she squeezed slightly assuring the woman that it was ok. "You want your revenge? That's good, but I can't offer it to you, what i can offer you is a job, a position in the Military, something that ultimately will help you get what you want, but first I want you to answer a question for me."

Par'jila watched as his niece tried soothing Toph he wasn't sure what to say to the young girl, the only women involved in his life anymore were his XO, his Niece and a few of his elite bridge crew, his wife had passed on many years ago, as had his sister, Jenna's mother.
"I think Admiral that this woman's record speaks for itself, she has had specialized training in certain fields that even Commander Wolf's Regiment doesn't train for." He glanced at the Admiral as he scanned over the Data pad detailing Toph's military record.

"I agree Admiral its up to her though." he said to admiral Brevin, feeling a bit bad for the women he was never that good at comforting people. When they feel bad, "I'm sorry if I upseted you Agent Kitara we are offering you a chance to avenge those you have lost by there betrayal."

Toph was still looking up, she heard Jenna and turned her head a little her face going cold. She had no more tears she had no Xalia all she had was revenge. "I'll do it, if it gets me revenge I'll fly a nuke right into the Emperors throne room and detonate it in his face." Toph continued to stare at her and still clutched the lightsaber in her hands. "I want to help, but Xalia is buried properly and no one else knows about me." Toph stood up and she still felt vibrations in her body as she worked at keeping her composure. "I also want to be on the squad that saved me with the two amazons."

Toph felt it first a stirring of confidence as she began to feel herself slipping back. He had called her agent meant he knew far more then he would let on. The admiral had mentioned her training and she slightly beamed internally. She could get her revenge but why be herself she could use a weapon a nice sharp weapon that will let her cut out her mothers heart. As she stood there and straightened herself up she still clutched the broken saber and smelled the leather. Xalia stood next to her and hooked her arm around Tophs while she breathed peacefully. "What do I have to do to prove myself?"

 

[Bad Wolf]

"My question is simple, are you willing to follow orders, are you willing to train under my jurisdiction to learn our ways and our combat techniques so that you can become the best of the best?" Jenna liked that line Best of the best, because truthfully mandalorians were the Best and the Rangers were the best hand picked soldiers the mandalorians had.
"I am commander of a special operations regiment called the Rangers, we are highly trained and every soldier in my regiment is hand picked I want you to come train under me, become a Ranger, you'll still be part of Chai La squad that won't be an issue, I also have another task force I'm personally assembling one that I think you are more than qualified for, your record says you were trained as an Intelligence operative is that correct?" Jenna stood there looking at the women, the 3 clawed scar that ran down the left side of her face only added to the hardened veteran soldier look.

Admiral par'jila looked from his niece to the woman and then to Admiral Hibirar.
"Well she's ballsy I'll give her that."

Hibirar waited for the woman's answer to the Commanders question before he pulled the next part to hopefully try and give the girl some sort of consolement to her past. he knew the bad things she had done she survived possibly for a reason to make up for those atrocities. Hibirar taped his ear communicator piece. "Elite Skirata please report back to my quarters." he said into it as he looked at Toph leaning some folding his hands in front of his face a bit. calculating if he was making the right move or a horrible mistake, he guessed only time will tell.

Allison was in the hall when she got the communication. She had read through the information given to her by Hibarir and was surprised to say the least. She only needed to walk the ten feet to the door and left Abigail outside as she entered and stood there at attention. "Sir" Allison took in the room mainly that Toph was now standing straight backed and ready for orders it seemed.

"Skirata your assessment of what you read do you think you could use her?"
he asked Allison in an unusually serious tone.

Allison looked at Toph and gave a nod. "We could, she is highly trained, dangerous and highly disciplined. She would be invaluable for Chai La squad." Allison wasn't lying as much as most of the actions sickened her a soldier no an officer who had valuable command experience was invaluable.

 

[Wendy]

Toph listened to Hibarir and to Jenna. Special operations were fine but she wanted to assault. Sneaking had a place she wanted to be there on the front and shot every sith she could find. To fly in interceptor into the heart of battle and pull up just before the bridge window as she fired a torpedo. She heard the call and then the door opened as one of the Amazons stepped through. She was even larger now it seemed and Toph still believed she could be crushed but she wasn't frail right now she was ready for a fight. They were talking about her and there was some praise from the amazon she would have to learn her name but the assessment of her skills was dead on she could also dance and fly most Imperial fighters.

"Vary well." Hibirar said as he sighed and stood up and looked back at Toph drawing a slug thrower pistol from behind his back that was under his uniform coat, and pulling the slide pointing it at Toph. "Wing Commander Toph kitara as leader of the mandalorian Navy and the Midway Carrier Battle Group I sentence you to death, for your crimes against none combatants and the horrible atrocities you have commited." he said pulling the trigger, a click was heard, as the hammer struck nothing. "I have killed Toph Kitara." he then turned and looked at Allison. "Allison will you adopt and take this woman under your wing and teach her what it means to be a Mandalorian?" he said lowering the weapon.

 

[Bad Wolf]

Par'jila looked at Toph and grinned.
"Miss you're supposed to fall down now you're dead." he tapped his cybernetic eye and grinned.


Jenna grinned it wasn't every day you got an Imperial soldier into your ranks.

Allison's eyes widened a little at the slug thrower but she didn't move. When the click and her new orders were given she moved forward and nodded her agreement. "Yes sir." Allison looked at Toph for a moment and placed a hand on her shoulder as she spoke. "Ni kar'Toph gai sa'Skirata." Allison stood there and patted her shoulder as she gave a nod of her head. "Ner'tat"
