PERSONALITY & TRAITS
________________________________________

Vala is young, impulsive, and somewhat naive. But what she lacks in wisdom and practical experience, she makes up for in resolve and intelligence. Without a doubt, she can be incredibly stubborn, but sometimes that is more a virtue than a vice. She is eager to see the rest of the galaxy after being cloistered for so long on Mandalore, and is ready to finally test her skills in the field. While she isn’t automatically open with strangers, once she judges that someone is not a threat she reveals herself to be mischievous with a vivacious (and somewhat sarcastic) sense of humor. When it comes to alien species, she is somewhat prejudiced to not trust them from the start, as is somewhat commonplace within her Clan.

She has a fondness for creatures, even those that are thought of as a nuisance or considered too ugly to love. She is hardly ever seen without her pet monkey-lizard, Edee. It’s been her constant companion ever since she completed her verd’goten, when her brother gifted her it’s unhatched egg. While it possesses many of the obnoxious traits it’s species is known for, it is apparently not too shabby of a mechanic (when it’s not rearranging everyone else’s stuff, that is).

SKILLS
________________________________________

Athleticism: Vala is very athletic and has honed her lithe form for dexterity and speed. While she isn’t physically strong, she is fast, focusing on avoidance, dodging, and putting as much distance between herself and her foes as possible. Her flexibility and small size allows for her to fit into confined spaces with ease, and being light on her feet enables her to be stealthy if the occasion calls for it.

Avionics: From an extremely early age, Vala was trained in avionic systems engineering by her father. She is extremely well skilled in their repair, and has on occasion even been able to invent some of her own improvements and workarounds.

Deadshot: Vala can easily hit a bullseye on any target… at least, she can during practice. She has exceptionally good aim, even with trick shooting, but she has rarely ever had to take those skills into the field under stressful conditions beyond training exercises.

Intelligence: Although she lacks a formal education, Vala’s intelligence manifests in other ways. Beyond her skills with avionics engineering, she is a self-taught slicer and can crack through most computer systems given enough time. She also is proficient in utilizing mnemonic devices in order to memorize things quickly.

Languages: Basic, Mando’a, Bocce, Binary (Understanding only)

Piloting: Vala began piloting speeders and other landcraft as a youngster, progressing into spacecraft when she began her formal Mandalorian training at eight. Piloting and avionics go hand and hand, because if you can’t test your systems, what’s the point?

  • Born 482 ABC in a Keldabe brothel, she was the second of her mother Andreus’ children. The first few months of her life were spent there along with her older brother Diocletian, but it became apparent that Andreus was unwell and in no state to care for an infant. A Mandalorian named Corr Solus decided to take the baby girl, who he named Vala, home with him to his shop on the edge of the city. It was likely that he was her father, but maybe not, not that it really mattered in their culture. As far as anyone was concerned, she was his daughter.

Despite the eye of the Empire being everywhere, even on Mandalore, her father raised her in the traditional Mandalorian fashion. From an early age, she was familiar with the beskar armor that had to be kept well hidden, and knew how to handle both melee and ranged weaponry. Corr was a pilot and flight engineer by trade, and as Vala grew older she was taught by him to do the same. While she did well enough with the everyday shop chores and mechanics, it wasn’t until she started delving into computer systems that she truly discovered her gift.

Around the time Vala turned six, her brother Dio had returned from his verd’goten and began working as an enforcer within the city. Her father initially frowned upon this, as he didn’t want Vala to end up as collateral damage in her brother’s underworld dealings, and forbade her from going to the city center unsupervised. She countered this by sneaking off to see Dio whenever Corr had business off world. Despite his shady dealings, she became very fond of her stoic brother, who seemed to have an endless amount of patience where she was concerned.

Her childhood passed relatively uneventfully, a seeming repetition of honing both her mechanical and martial skills, dodging the Empire’s crackdown on the Mandalorian culture, and otherwise enjoying much of a carefree existence. When the time came for her own rite of passage, Vala was more than ready. It was what came after that she was totally unprepared for.

Shortly after her verd’goten, Corr made preparations to go off world on a supply run. Anxious to prove herself, Vala begged her father to let her make the run on her own. It was just a short trip to Concord Dawn, and she made it there and back within just a few hours, but that was all it took for the shop to get wiped out. Her father and everyone else inside were presumed dead in the explosion. The official cause was ruled to be a catastrophic mechanical failure of a ship that was being worked on, but it was widely whispered that the Imperials were responsible. Vala was devastated.

She moved to her brother Dio’s compound further away from the city. Over the last several years she worked with his wife helping to maintain the planetary defenses, and some odd side jobs in avionics. She spent much of her free time in target practice, becoming a deadshot from long distances with a rifle. All the while, her ship had begun to rust as it sat there unused. She hadn’t wanted to go off world since her father’s death.

Only recently did Vala finally begin to grow restless. Dio had left for work on Nar Shaddaa, and only ever made sporadic visits home. She was nineteen now, a time when most Mandalorians began to really strike out and start families of their own, but she had no interest in the latter. What she really wanted right now was some adventure and excitement… and maybe some payback.
