"I cannot challenge your opinion. I quite like that, you have made up your mind. In time your ideals will develop into something more. You, Vizza, will become a great Jedi."
Colm Lorian, Jedi Master responsible for Vizza’s Padawan training, upon Vizza’s view of the Jedi Code and just before granting him Knighthood.

Vizza Mander

There exists, in this Galaxy, a certain Shade Knight with a certain history. Not every history is exciting, but each and every history is worth being learned; there is always some comedy or some drama, something that makes a life worthy. This particular Knight has had an interesting story, made of ups and downs, good choices and bad decisions, of great grown both within the Force and within oneself. Without further ado, this is the story of Vizza Mander.

Origins

What can be said about this period of Vizza’s life? Born in Iridonia as far back as thirty [30] years ago, Vizza was quite the special baby; his eyes were quite uncommon amongst even Zabraks, of a vibrant deep purple. Vizza’s childhood was never one that a child would want or deserve; second born child, he was never meant to be birthed, and as such was kept in the dark at the eyes of society. As soon as he was old enough to do simple tasks, his father put a broom and an apron on him; he was always at home, working on all the house chores – a slave, if you will. Very little about this time was pleasant, for all he remembers only his mother would care for him, and only when they were alone; she would not dare disrespect his father in any way, and that meant not giving him love, at all. Going outside wasn’t properly something that he was allowed, though he did sneak out of the house every once in a while when everyone else was sleeping; sleeping meant very little to him, he would only sleep a few hours every night and he’d do fine just with that. Running up the hills to watch the city at night was something that always fascinated him, though he had to be careful about the wild life. There was one big tree on the spot he’d usually go, and he was very fond of it.

Life went on until he was nine years old. It was then, that by some wonderful energy of the cosmos, the breaking conflict between the Alsakan and the Republic came crashing down onto Iridonia – literally. While he was on the hill, a ship crashed in the nearby city; by some miracle, it crashed on the market and at that time it was pretty much empty, not taking anyone’s lives. Soon after, a Republican cruiser landed, and the Republican soldiers started to mobilize outside and spreading across the market, surrounding the small Alsakan freighter. Vizza was curious, and so he approached. It took him fifteen minutes to get down there, but once he got, he could hear the blasters going off here and there, and even some louder bangs from slugthrowers. He carefully got closer, and once he got to peek into the action, he saw how the Republican slowly but surely out-powered the Alsakan through superiority in numbers and firepower. Then, a Republican soldier noticed him, and it scared him – witnessing this kind of event wasn’t something every nine year old could take lightly – making him run away. He thought about running up to the tree, the one living being in this planet that gave him a feeling of comfort at all times, but he was afraid that his family might have been awake due to the fight’s break out and as such he ran immediately home. Only his mom was awake, but once he got inside, it didn’t take more than a few minutes for his father to wake up too; good fortune to Vizza, he just saved himself from a beating.

The fighting lasted all night long. He sat in the corner, with his family sitting at the couch, nearby, the lights out for no apparent reason. They remained quiet, listening to the explosions and the faint sound of blasters. It wasn’t up until it was nearing dawn that the sounds ceased and an hour or so later, someone opened the door to the house. As the dim light of day break lit the room, another source of light made its way past the door. A vibrantly green beam of light, followed by a Zabrak with a rather suspicious look on his face, slowly entered the room. He waved his hand, and the lights turned on. Vizza’s eyes shot to the switch – it had been flicked on! And the laser sword… this must be a Jedi! The Jedi looked around… and his eyes zoomed to Vizza. Vizza hugged himself closer; did he want to speak to him due to him seeing the battle down bellow? He spoke up to Vizza, telling him how Vizza had quite a presence in the Force. In the what? However, his father rose from the couch where he had been looking simply astonished at the Jedi, and after the Jedi mentioned the Force, he raged at the Jedi, demanding he got out of the house; he walked up to him and reached with an hand to his arm to drive him out. The Jedi looked back at Vizza after giving his father a look, and smiled at Vizza’s scared expression of what his father’s actions meant. With a motion of his arm, he wrapped his own hand around his father’s arm and before Vizza could tell his father had been floored. The Jedi spoke in a kind tone of voice, and asked Vizza to wait outside while he had a chat with his family.

Half an hour later, the Jedi returned. He had all of Vizza’s things in a bag – Vizza never had many possessions aside from clothing, mainly – and he informed him, to his heart’s content that he was going to leave his family to join the Jedi Order! When the Jedi asked if he wanted to say good bye to his family, Vizza didn’t want to, he just wanted to get out of there. The Jedi, curiously enough, didn’t find this the least surprising.

Jedi

Life on the Jedi Academy was peachy. It was a whole new world for him, and despite being put in classes with kids within his age level, he was still much more mature than most of them, if not all of them. It was something that annoyed him, how childish some of the kids could actually get. Despite being somewhat behind his lessons, he’d give his best at every class, and a lot of hard work outside classes, sometimes requesting to remain in class room afterhours just to practice a bit longer. He was quite competent, both at saber practice but also with one of his favorite Force applications: Telekinesis. His connection to the Force and his natural curiosity were compelling enough for him to grasp concepts with relative ease, though he did need to practice and try hard whenever he learned a new power or application.

When Vizza was fourteen his case was in deliberation to be sent to one of the available Jedi Corps – he was given one extra year to find a Master due to him joining at an advanced age. And then, just two and half months before his time was done, he was selected to become a Padawan learner to a Jedi Knight: Colm Lorian. He was very excited; not only would he not be joining the Corps, which he heard were not that fun, but he’d learn from a real Jedi Knight! Once he met him, he got to know him and the day they met was the day they began with the teaching and learning process. During this time, Colm trained Vizza on a garden with a tree that resembled the one from Iridoria; Vizza would visit that tree at least once whenever he was at Ossus, and all his Padawans would eventually come to that same garden one day. Colm took Vizza to visit an old temple, as a rite of passage. Master and Padawan remained in the temple for a couple months, living there while Vizza built and practiced what Colm had to teach of the Forth Form, Ataru. Asking him what were his views of the Jedi Code, Colm felt Vizza was ready to face the Galaxy at large. It didn’t take long for him to achieve Knight rank.

During his time as a Knight, Vizza had his fair share of Padawans to train, but three in particular. There was Chester Ducere, a young man who despite having tasted the slightest slice of Darkness, had resisted it. Lalita Tune, as she is known now; she was quite the odd one, no master was willing to take her, and it was that point that attracted Vizza into taking her as Padawan. Last but not least, there was Alaan Korre, a former Padawan turned into the bounty hunter known as Darkblade who would eventually return to the Jedi Order to finish his training; Vizza had a feeling he’d be somewhat relevant in his life, something that could almost be called Farseeing, though someone who knew Vizza would just say it’s his own bizarre ways. Chester never really got to finish training with Vizza, for he felt he could still learn more. Vizza accepted this fact and let him to his devices. Lalita had the talent, and after the first months, Vizza let her go as a Jedi Knight… Little did he know she could have used a few more months or even years with him. With Alaan, whoever, he did not make that mistake, though Alaan gave him more than many reasons as to why. He kept him by his side for a long time after his initial Padawan months, unlike with the previous two ones, and that was something that changed Vizza. Vizza, with his life experience and problems, had a tough personality to deal with while being a Jedi. Alaan’s own darkness awoke Vizza’s, and the pair worked their way around the Galaxy on their tasks while learning to keep that darkness in check. However, Vizza’s undoing as a Jedi would come from a mission shared by him, Alaan and Lalita. Lalita had a child in her care, involving a big time criminal known as the Reminder. During this mission, and due to Alaan’s actions, Vizza promoted him to the ranks of Knight. However, when they headed for their final destination, Lalita was sniped, and Vizza froze on the spot in shock of watching helplessly as his former Padawan nearly died.

After this episode, Vizza decided he needed to focus on the Jedi Order, or else he’d go crazy with the all the confusion he felt. The events on the latest mission with his former Padawans sure did a number on him, and while in another mission, he snapped: after retrieving an object of importance for his mission, he felt a disturbance coming from the place where he retrieved the said object from the woman in possession of it. He went back to find the mercenaries he was against with over her body – the things they had done to her; scarred her body and mind. It had done it; Vizza snapped at them and pulled his lightsaber. They picked their blasters and slugthrowers, but Vizza lifted his free hand and focusing on the weapons, crushing the on the mercenaries hands. There they were, at his mercy, unharmed and defenseless, ready to be arrested and brought to justice. But Vizza didn’t plan on that. Moving forth, he proceeded to slaughter then as if they were animals in a slaughterhouse, not hearing their pleads for mercy, going precisely against what the Code forbid. After this episode, Vizza did not return to Coruscant; instead, he went to Selvaris, which he had already been in and brought peace to his mind. There, he met Cain Ray, who talked to him, trying to help him and figure if his alliance was towards the Order or to the Force, for it would define whether or not he could be invited into the Shade Order. Cain figured after some talk, however, that despite Vizza’s alliance being towards the Force, he should figure that by himself, and as such, he gave him a clue so that once he found his answer, he could find them.

Several weeks after this event, Vizza was struck down while airborne and he used this as a means to escape the Order’s grip so that he could find himself; dismantling his lightsaber, he kept only the crystal and escaped the crash site. His lightsaber and ship was found later, and with only the crystal gone, it was concluded that however shot the ship down took the crystal as a prize; Vizza was declared KIA.

Self Discovery

Finding oneself a good place to live is not easy. However, Vizza did know of a planet where he had been that could be quite the good place to live; he had been granted a free pass to start all over, after all. It was Selvaris, the jungle planet. He had a nice house, in the jungle near the white sands and crystalline waters, built with his own hands. It hadn’t been easy, in fact it took him a couple years, but it was a decent enough place to live, and a great way to do some introspection. He had little technology; he had gotten there by expending a lot of his amounted credits earned during his time as a Jedi mainly on a ship and later with the necessary materials. All in all, he felt proud of it. His years spent in Selvaris were of meditation and self-learning. He got himself a bamboo stick with a wooden hilt which would mimic the lightsaber so he could keep on practicing while he waited for the chance to build another. Losing his lightsaber was one of the tactics used to make the Jedi believe he had been killed; taking the crystal of a lightsaber could be seen as a trophy for some mercenaries, or so he hoped. He also kept his connection with the Force in check; he wanted to be able to rely on it, if the need ever rose.

One day, it did. He was at one of the cities, close to the island he lived on (about half an hour on his ship), when trouble sprouted as he went to help at a shop, the way he had of making a living on Selvaris. A random person, a mercenary curiously enough, seemed to find that part of town the perfect spot to find himself some trouble. He didn’t announce himself a mercenary, but Vizza could tell just from the way he acted but also from the apparel and gear he carried. Vizza tried to ease his mind, but his rage was blind and after a few seconds, it was clear his “problem” wasn’t even fair; it was just literal trouble hunt. So Vizza gave him what he wanted – Vizza stood up for the shopkeepers, or rather, used them as an excuse to ventilate some of his own frustration and to see if his meditation years paid off – and the fight ensued. Just as he drew up his blaster, Vizza lifted and clenched his fist, focusing on the blaster; it stood little chance against his powerful Crush. The mercenary was surprised, but it didn’t stop him from further attacking Vizza. However, even with a bladed weapon, Vizza outmatched him – he was letting himself be fueled by his anger, but he had gotten the trick, mostly, not to let it get to his head and keeping it in check, though it was hard as hell not to beat the silly out of the mercenary just for the heck of it. He did gain a sword though; he wasn’t going to let this mercenary walk around with his pride hurt and such an object to main people. That, and well, he didn’t have a weapon since he destroyed his saber, so he figured why not? His meditation seemed to be paying off, though he did feel quite angrier the following days, like the tiniest things would set him off. Clearly he still needed a lot of time in order to master his angst, and he remembered the advice given to him by Cain; now was the time to follow his clue.

Revelation

And so it was; Vizza made his way across the galaxy in his ship, leaving behind his house to the keeping of the woman he had saved in the shop weeks before his departure. He travelled from one system to another, meeting new people and cultures along the way on his search for Cain. After a few months he finally found him, though it had been hard despite the short time span. Once they met, they had a profound conversation concerning the aspects and views of the Force, concerning the experiences that Vizza went through, and how to deal with his own darkness. The training was performed in the intervals of Cain’s own quest, but they were fruitful; it lasted a couple years, up until the time Vizza was introduced formally to the Shade Order. Vizza knew of Cain’s quest and offered his own house on Selvaris to be used as base, and even his contacts up in Selvaris to the use of the Order. As such, he made way to Selvaris with three objectives: expanding the house into a proper base, and fortify the contacts so that they could be of use to the Order. The third objective was to rebuild his lost lightsaber. He spent seven years in Selvaris. The house was bigger now, with underground levels so that the levels above ground don’t attract too much attention, and with a couple useful contacts: the woman he saved, Nayva Masaque, would provide food supplies; another helpful contact was Mungo Spiuar, a mechanic who was willing to help them after Vizza performed a few tasks for him and gained his trust and friendship. Over the course of these years, he was able to pile up the required components for his lightsaber, which he built during the time of two months so he could reach a superior work on it. He returned to the Shade Order’s quarters, becoming a Shade Knight and working his way up in the Order.

BASICS
NAME: Vizza Mander
FACTION: Shade Order
RANK: Master
CREDITS: 1000

COMPOSITION AND APPEARANCE

Vizza stands at a comfortable height of 5’9’’ [1.8m], and weighing 198lbs [90kg] of pure compact muscle built into a lean body. His skin is of a pale orange, and his eyes are of a vibrant purple. He has several stripes tattooed on his face, a sign of passage between Zabraks, though his tattoos were self painted upon becoming a Jedi Knight, since he had no Zabrak mentor to do it for him; they are of a jet black tone, which heavily contrasts against his skin. Vizza wears a body piece cloth of dark tones, which is mid-sleeve and mid-calf in lengths. Over the body he wears a highly articulate armor which covers most of his body (because he is not physically strong, he requires a lot of speed, and thus the armor grants him light protection without cost to speed and agility); chest plates, abdominal plates, calf plates and feet are the toughest parts of this armor. There are a few others covering his back. He wears a tissue similar to chainmail underneat this for higher protection. There are also forearm protectors in both hands, and a few hardened leather straps seen all around; shorts, waist, forearms, hands, etc, etc. Over the armor he will usually wear a large cloak so to hide most of it, making him look buffer when it’s just really the armor.

ATTRIBUTES/SKILLS

Vizza takes care of his body; being the most powerful weapon available, it’d be foolish not to do so. However, he ages just like anyone else, and so it is natural that the body starts to give in slowly but surely. Possessor of an extraordinary speed and agility at the cost of strength and physical threshold, Vizza relies on his capacity to outmaneuver an opponent through his advanced use of Ataru, Form IV of lightsaber combat. With the years, he has learned to imbue his body with the Force to overcome the weight of the years, thus becoming a fearsome opponent. He is also widely skilled in Telekinesis, namely in offensive measures – Grip, Crush, Wave, etc; despite this, he can still make use of regular telekinesis to lift objects and hurl them, or sustain objects from crushing allies or the like.

He makes use of the Force a lot throughout his life. Jump, Sight, Sense, Speed, and other basic techniques are at his disposal. Vizza takes care in scouting his environment; you just never know how it can come in handy, and requiring mostly wide spaces to fight, he needs to be careful of what he does and where. It can also come in handy if the need to retreat arises. He can pilot a ship with moderate skill; just don’t ask him to dogfight because no ship from this time matches Vizza’s style. He also has a few informatics tricks up his sleeve.

GEAR

What other gear would Vizza need other than his lightsaber? None. Vizza takes his training within the Force and with the Lightsaber into high priority, and he does not rely in other technologies other than that. His lightsaber contains the Pontine crystal that was first used by Vizza so many years ago in Ossus, and as such a connection with it has been established; unless it is Vizza wielding the saber, the lightsaber will not work properly. The blade is adjusted into an average stance: not too rough so he can redirect blaster fire with moderate precision, but not too smooth to let lightsabers slip upon contact.

SHIP

The High Voltage is quite the ship. It’s armament consists of two front mounted turbolasers, and the shielding is not capable of sustaining much fire before frying out. However, High Voltage has one advantage working for it: speed. Capable of carrying two pilots and four passengers, it’s not a ship to live in as it is a ship to travel around.

PERSONALITY

Vizza likes to think outside the box, and that has sometimes won him the title of odd and bizarre. He would take on Padawans who seemed to have no future and produce brilliant Knights out of them. However, something that stroke him was how his Padawans would be subject to a darkness of some kind, perhaps likened to his own. Vizza left the Order because he simply could not abide to the Code; his line of thought lead him to believe that Justice and Peace cannot be brought down by the pacifist way of the Jedi, and his own actions lead him into trouble with the Order before. Possessor of quite the dark sense of humor, it is noticeable on his behavior and actions how he will be amused at some not so funny situations.

He could almost be said to have split personality. On one side, he is caring, thoughtful, appreciating and kind. On the other, he is mean, hurtful, and sarcastic and has a distinct shine on his eyes that express how he wishes to cut down someone. However, he is mindful of how he feels and when he feels certain times. He tries to keep his emotions cleared, but can’t help it to let himself literally live life, unlike Jedi who are always mindful. Playing with his food is also a characteristic, up until the point where he needs to get serious.
