480,000 Galactic Standard Credits

Affiliation: N/A (developed & manufactured by Allanteen Six Shipyards)

Ownership: It will be sold on the open market to characters and organizations who can afford it.

Intent:
New, introductory product line. It is intended to serve as a personal transport and starfighter for planetary security forces, military contractors, and private organizations or individuals.

Model: Viper-class Interceptor

Name: N/A

Dimensions: 7.8 m, 5.6 m, 3.2 m (with stabilizers)

Class: Interceptor Starfighter

Crew: 1 (pilot)

Composition: Alusteel (armor plating), Duralloy (frame), Transparisteel (cockpit canopy)

Armament: Laser Cannons (2; port and starboard), Modular Armament Bay (1; can accommodate a single, internally housed concussion missile launcher, high capacity rocket pack, ion cannon, or a third laser cannon)

Equipment: Basic Sensor Array, Basic Life Support System, Basic Ejection Seat, Basic Navigation Computer, Holographic Targeting Suite, Light Shield Generator, Chaff Launchers (located in dorsal stabilizer fins), Etheric Rudder, Clustered Attitude Thrusters (powerful; concealed beneath small, retractable armor panels when not in use)

Speed: 200 MGLT

Hyperdrive Rating: Class 1

Maneuverability: Incredibly quick to accelerate, the Viper is a fast and nimble interceptor, but sensitive controls and the ability to create powerful, instantaneous thrust in any direction have resulted in a sharp learning curve as compared to most other starfighters. Inexperienced pilots have been known to over steer or compensate and send their Viper careening out of control. A disclaimer included with new purchases advises that only highly trained and experienced pilots should attempt to operate a Viper and even then, only after taking an accredited simulator training course.

Description:

Produced by the starfighter research and development branch of Allanteen Six Shipyards, the Viper-class Interceptor is the first of several new product lines. Along with the others, it was created in an attempt to revive the somewhat stagnant company and to assist it in reestablishing itself as a preferred starship manufacturer in the ever expanding Outer Rim market.

Compatible concussion missile launchers usually hold up to eight missiles in an attached magazine. The standard rocket pack has a twenty-four rocket capacity. High-explosive and armor piercing rocket warheads are the most widely sought after, however there is a notable market for specialized munitions as well. When a laser cannon is equipped in the modular bay and not retracted, it can only be fired in conjunction with the others with a stutter fire or staggering fire effect due to power constraints. For the same reason, a light ion cannon in the same weapon slot cannot be fired in conjunction with the two factory equipped laser cannons (switching back and forth between the two takes little more than the flick of a switch). Alternatively, the bay can be used for additional storage, doubling the overall cargo capacity.

The port and starboard stabilizers (wings) can fold up against the dorsal stabilizers (fins) during landing and stowage.

In addition to the most absurd speed EVER, how does it fit all of these systems and a hyperdrive into such an insanely tiny space?

Your lack of knowledge regarding Star Wars technology and its evolution is absurd.

Over one thousand years have passed since starfighters like the RZ-1 A-wing were reaching speeds as high as 120 MGLT (150 MGLT according to the ILM chart from RotJ). Unless there was a ruling while I was away that overturned the guidelines established before the timeskip, 200 MGLT is the new top speed for craft in this era. So far as I've seen, it has only been achieved by a few starfighters, but it has indeed been achieved.

Most of the starfighters on Wookieepedia are more heavily equipped than the one I've created above. In fact, the only area that the Viper exceeds the one thousand year old starship specifications on Wookieepedia is speed. I can probably copy and paste a hundred links to compact, canon starfighters with a lot more hardware if needed, but these are actually a few that I used as a references when developing the Viper.

Don't forget about the TIE Defender and other craft. Defender had hyperdrive, shields, warheads, a beam weapon, 4 lasers, and 2 ion cannons, and still had excellent maneuverability and like 150 MGLT speed. So, yeah.

I agree, this is a pretty spartan ship, I think its pretty well balanced by the fact that newbs would just crash themselves. A bit fast maybe, but I see Vencu's point and agree with it.

Except for the fact that your magical "Year 2000" era fighter still rocks a Class 1 hyperdrive and, in general, tech on swerp is at or below most EU tech levels (cloaking devices, disruptors, etc.), sure. Totally Brett's mistake for not having taken additional Star Wars Technology and the Physics of Things that Are Entirely Sensible classes in school.

Brett, we are all ashamed by your lackadaisical attitude when it comes to this srs bsns.

Considering this has the diet coke versions of equipment, it looks good to me. I'm on the fence about asking you to go for 4 missiles/16 rockets instead, but that's up to you.

I can do that if you'd like, but I actually reduced it once already. If you look at the stock A-wing, it had two concussion missile launchers with six missiles each. Since this can only hold a single launcher, I settled for eight missiles, which is right in the middle. To calculate the number of rockets (which are smaller and less complex), I figured that a concussion missile equipped by a ship this size would be equal to three rockets. From there, I just multiplied by the number of missiles I had already established and got twenty-four. Even housed in a high capacity pack or pod, they would likely take up much less space than a full launcher and magazine would, so it seemed like a pretty good number. Your call, though.

Maybe change your ratio to 1:2, that way you get plenty of rockets and Clayton can have reduced ammunition.

From now on I feel this should be an official way of measure the load-out of starships on SWRP.

This is a fast piece of work. Can it be used in Atmosphere? If so what's its top speed? I imagine the shape alone would give it the power to carve through a standard atmosphere rather easily.

It's hard to say. I don't think there has ever been a general agreement on just how fast a ship with a deflector shield can travel in atmosphere. In most source material, it just states that it is much faster than what the craft would normally be capable of without them, but that's obviously not specific. I would think that the Viper could reach speeds in excess of 3,000 km/h without shielding, but that's based on my very limited understanding of modern day aircraft and their capabilities. With shielding, your guess would be as good as mine, but obviously there is going to be a limit to what the pilot and the ship can withstand as well. @Krajin
