"Why not?" Banik asked curiously. "If that's the law and you're sworn to uphold it, why would you defy it by stopping him from dying?"

She listened to him and spoke, thinking about something her mother had told her years before, "because somebody once told me that love is the strongest emotion anyone can feel for someone else. And it can make you not want to do things your meant to do," she paused, before adding, "or do things that you're not. And I think if I felt that strongly for somebody I don't think I could help with their death sentence."

She continued to think, "In fact, I don't think I could hand out a death sentence to anybody. If somebody was that evil they should be locked up, not killed, that makes those who enforce the sentences as bad as the criminals."

"That may be true," Banik told her, though he recognized her naivety in such a regard considering Jedi should always uphold the law, "but what if that's the law? What if a jury of his peers has decreed that he is to be killed? Should they not hand out that sentence even if they don't believe in it, despite that the law says he should receive that sentence?"

"The law is not the be all and end all of life," she replied, "and who is anyone to decree who deserves to live or die. Just because the Jedi have the Force, or a politician has power, or a General has his troops does not give any of them the right to state who deserves to live an die. Do you really agree that some deserve to be killed for their crimes, when they could be imprisoned instead?"

"That depends upon the crime," Banik told her truthfully, realizing that the discussion would be the perfect segway into her first outside training experience as a Jedi Padawan. "If someone is nothing more than a petty thug, then they should be locked away. If someone is a murderer or a terrorist, for example, they should be put to death. Now, this discussion has actually given me an idea for the next step of your training. Please return to your quarters and await a message from me. We will be going on our first mission together. You'll receive more information en route."

"Yes master," said Violet, slightly disgruntled that they had been unable to finish their discussion. It had intrigued her, very much. She stood and bowed to Banik, before walking off to her small room, making sure her comlink was on before lying back on the bed and resting. She had learned that when you are part of the Jedi, you take rest whenever you can.

Sitting in his chambers, Banik transmitted a message to his padawan's chambers. In the message, he told her simply to pick up a training, albeit still-dangerous, lightsaber and a utility belt from the storage room. She would then make her way to the docking bay where she would be provided with a single-person shuttle to take her to Anaxes. Her first order of duty would be to explore the planet and learn about the dangerous areas. He would meet her there after she had one day alone to herself. Some teachers would not have sent their students on their own so early, but he needed to see what she was truly capable of in the field in order to best know how to train her for the future.

The beeping of the datapad awoke Violet instantly; she was a light sleeper. She sat bolt upright and read the message. She was excited to go off on her own, even if it was for only a day. She grabbed her boots and pulled them on, before slipping her datapad into a pouch on her belt. She then grabbed her brown cloak and practically ran to the stores. She checked out a utility belt, putting her own in the locker after taking her few pouches and clipping them onto the new one, stuffed with aids to help her. She then took a small silver cylinder, checked the power supply and switched it on, inspecing the green blade of the training lightsaber before hanging it at her belt. She then went to the hangers and looked up the location of the shuttle. She walked into one of the many docking bays and slipped into the cockpit of the shuttle, using the provided droid to pilot off into the skies and into the depths of space.
