As he played the outro of the song, he nodded to those who came by and acknowledged him. His smile garnered reciprocal expressions. In particular, he noted a man in overalls who left him a tip of coin on the floor. He picked it up and tucked it away into one of the pockets layered into his tunics. Olin considered money only as a tool to bless and relieve the burdens of others. He gave a look of gratitude to the man and then returned his gaze to the patrons of the Vixen.
Adjusting his instrument to a different tuning, he said, “Thank you for tolerating a musician such as myself. Your hospitality to allow me to focus you all in a moment of solemnity is not losses on me.” He strummed his appropriately tuned strings, he began introducing a quicker beat and syncopated rhythms. “I will now cater to those who are having a lighter-hearted evening. This is a folk song from the dear plains people of Lothal. Enjoy.” He stomped his left foot and continued playing more songs.
While playing, he continued to scan the crowd—searching for those who were in need of help. Public houses were not only places to escape and be merry, but also to grasp at straws when desperate. He was aware of the reality and had a keen eye looking for those who others did not look —searching for those ignored.
