Affiliation:
Sith/Sacred Band of Ziost

Ownership:

N\A

Intent:

Augmentation of hand to hand combat and guarding of hands from attacks.

Model:

Model D-3 Vigilance Electrostatic gauntlets

Type:

Melee hand wear charged with electricity and reinforced with cortosis.

Size:

Hand sized, with the sleeve reaching up to the elbow.

Composition:

Top skin of complex cortosis weaving, though also inlaid with other superconductive materials. Has a thin protective layer of synthetic plastics underneath.

Description:

This weapon was originally developed by the Sacred Band of Ziost to be used by its officers, but has since been seen in the hands of both Sith and Sacred Band members fortunate enough to gain access to them. It is a kind of glove inlade with Cortosis nano-fibers that discharges up to 85,000 volts of electricity upon contact when activated. It is possible for it to generate a current that is lethal, but due to the superconductive nature of cortosis doing so makes it a threat to both the user and the receiver of the attack, as the current would burn through the protective layer. This has lead its manufacturers to purposely limit the maximum output of the device until they can find a more suitable material for the protective layer. There are small disks covering the inner palm and knuckles that act as amplifiers. These gloves do have a generator near the edge of the sleeve that creates needed energy by siphoning ambient electrical fields and energy from the air or from electronics. This occurs by using cortosis to manually draw in energy and conduct it back to the generator. Other forms of energy can be absorbed, though this is much more difficult and it takes time for that energy to be converted to usable electrical power. This generator is located around the edge of the sleeve, resembling a ring with a coin sized circle jutting out from the outside. The ring and half sphere will glow slightly when the glove is in use. Direct attacks from these gauntlets have been known to disrupt technology that they touch by overloading circuits with sudden bursts of unstable energy. Temporary paralysis can also be caused in isolated regions by overstimulation of the nervous system.

The interwoven cortosis threads will compress together and temporarily harden if hit by a large concussive force. It can withstand a large amount of blaster fire due to its capabilities for absorbing energy, around five rounds. It can also take one hit from a lightsaber or other plasma weapon. Structurally the glove can take more, but after it takes hits that exceed this criteria the sudden burst of unstable energy that comes from absorbing these hits will eventually cause damage to the generator and the attached wiring, compromising its ability to continue resisting and rendering it useless.

What makes this different from other, similar tech?

Functions differently than a shockboxing glove in that it is more malleable and fabric like, allowing freedom of movement. This technology also contains certain potentials that simply do not exist in other tech because of its complexity. It can allow a kind of cultural trait in the military of the Sith Brotherhood to possess these weapons since they are quite unique, thus giving a distinction between fighting strategies in a battle.

*Note that I am no admin, nor do I hold any weight towards something being approved or not, and everything I say is PURELY my own opinion based on my own knowledge and what I've come to expect based on the New Timeline Announcements pertaining to Technology.*

Something as complex as this, having cortosis weaved into a fabric, though plausible, I'd imagine it would take some serious technology to be able to make this kind of a synthetic material. I believe that this kind of technology would likely require a larger company willing to produce this product. This partially also plays into the fact that there you only have your own character's name on the top of the ownership section; Which I'm not sure you meant to do is have exclusive ownership, but changing that to "Anyone who can get their hands on one." might help this get approved since it benefits more than just one player on the site.

As for the size, I think that it might be a good idea to expand on that. Size refers to a lot of very important dimensions that aren't covered by "Hand Sized".
Such as Weight: Since it has an alloy metal involved, an attached generator, etc... It can become a very heavy piece of weaponry!
Or Such as Length: Covering the entire hand and all the way up the forearm, it stops at before the elbow; This can very easily add up the weight, and it might play a bigger role in getting approved, whether it be bigger or smaller.

I believe there is a section regarding the rating of the armor, but it looks like this is labelled under weapon. This seems a lot more like an armor than a weapon to me, and that is imperative to whether or not the armor gets approved or not. It is probably more important than anything else. That means that you should probably give some thought as to what the gauntlets can resist, since the gauntlet consists of mainly cortosis. And I'd recommend being descriptive: It can resist 2 strikes from a lightsaber, but since it is made of a fabric, it will not be able to resist any amount of the Force delivered by a lightsaber strike. Since the point of having cortosis is to resist lightsabers (a lot more than being able to block a blaster bolt with your hands, which is unlikely), I don't think that making it a fabric would be in anyone's best interest considering that it cannot displace the kinetic energy of the strike itself. My assumption is that after a single strike, it would resist the lightsaber blade, but it would break the arm...

I should also point out that being able to act as an EMP towards surrounding devices is a very powerful function that isn't explained very well at all. I, personally, don't see how simply being made of cortosis and having a generator, generates an EMP effect. Perhaps you cold go into detail as to how this is specifically possible since it is such a powerful function, because like anything else, if it isn't explainable, it isn't possible. However, keep in mind the draw backs of having such a function; Such as additional weight? If it is just a "Wow" Factor, I don't think it is worth the explaining.

Changed to armor. I heard that the actual blades of a light saber is nearly weightless, so I didn't really think that kinetic force behind it would be a problem. Will continue editing

Update: this is no longer a personal weapon. It will be free to be used by all members of the Sith Brotherhood. Also, added descriptions for durability and the actual mechanics for its abilities. Anyone that may be interested in using this feel free to comment. After some thought I believe I would like this technology to be used by more people in our faction.

Just keep in mind that crushgaunts are banned, and in a way this might be seen as similar to one of them, so just have a look over it and make sure that it differs enough so that Clayton isn't just going to immediately dismiss the idea as a spin-off of a banned technology.

If those are banned because they augment strength then that's not really an issue. At their core these are really just complicated shock gloves

Due to player concerns, that Clayton and I share, this has been opened for review again.

Please eliminate the nano-cortosis and it's energy absorption abilities. Feel free to replace it with regular cortosis that CAN NOT absorb energy.

Please note that while this is under review, it can NOT be used in any RPs.

Wait, what? Why is this a problem? I suppose I don't understand what the player issues are. Could you explain the concerns you guys are having?

Well, I for one am someone who complained. I don't know if it's generally acted as a rule or what, but it's known on the site that lightsaber resistant materials are only supposed to block one hit. And the fact that this is for Sith and SBZ only makes it unfair for other players.

Reya hit it on the head. And I was a stupidface.

I have never heard that. In fact I remember when making this reading through the rules, and I just did to make sure, to see if this is true. I may have missed something, but I simply hadn't heard that. I can change it to one hit if that is a legitimate rules concern, of course. However, my issue is that I don't see why the cortosis threads and energy absorption are an issue. Simply put, like Kiro said, take them away and this isn't much more than a little glove made from cortosis, completely defeating the purpose of why they were made.
I wasn't gonna mention names, as it's sorta contrary to the whole point of having a staff if you expose people to potential online bullying (not saying you would, but it's a policy issue. Better safe than sorry), but Reya pretty much hit the nail on the head. Your gauntlet, as it stands in the write-up, and you have used it in RPs, means that you can basically grip a lightsaber for an indefinite amount of time, or do repeated blocks with your gauntlet.

This is in clear and direct violation of the rules. I am well within my rights as a staff member to have this permanently archived right here and now, and let @Brandon Rhea or @GABA deal with any punitive measures, but I won't do that, as I want to work with the players.

But as your gauntlet is at this very moment, @+SpaceJesus+, it's not allowed to be used in any RPs. And if it's a simple gauntlet with a cortosis lining when the nanofiber and the energy absorption is removed, then it'll be moved to Player Workshops due to being generic.

First, I was simply confused. Not attacking you. I feel like you seem to have thought that from the tone of your post. Second, I'm still confused. Where was it interpreted that you could grip a lightsaber indefinitely with this? Even in the thread it was used, it was hit twice and began glitching. Yes, twice is apparently a problem, I will fix it, but it is pretty readily established that using it in such an OP fashion isn't possible. It was even agreed upon OOC that laying a saber on it for any extended period of time would count as several hits and would cut through it, especially with it only taking one hit now. What I am getting from what you guys are saying is that the problem is the amount of punishment it can take from a Lightsaber. That I will definitely change, but my hesitation for the other details is because the offensive bits and cortosis threads have nothing to do with that problem. Again, just discussing tech, not being disrespectful.

As for me using it in PvP being grounds for "punitive measures," I used it after it had been approved by the technology admin, completely unaware a rule had been violated. Just wanted to mention that because you were kinda making me confused and worried when you said that.

However, and I can't believe @Clayton and I both missed this on several views... this thing is Main Faction Tech. The reason that's an issue @+SpaceJesus+, is that players can't submit tech for any of the main factions. At all. Tech intended for main factions has to be submitted by the Faction Leader (@Marf in your case), to a board that only the Admins and the FLs have access to, where it's reviewed. And as this thing was created for the Sacred Band of Ziost and the Sith Brotherhood, this is Main Faction Tech. And that means we might have to archive this regardless...

I can understand if this causes frustration, and I assure you, it's not me trying to attack you or anything like that. I have nothing against you, personally. It's simply a (somewhat glaring) oversight by both me and Clayton.

Is it possible to have it run through Marf and then resubmitted by her for approval?

Not really. Even if Marf approves of it, it'd need to go through the Main Faction approval process.

But it could still be used (eventually) if it passed? Because if all else fails I might just see if we could try and resubmit it correctly.

@Kiro - I think what @+SpaceJesus+ is trying to ask, is "if I change the two lightsaber hits into one lightsaber hits, can I have Marf resubmit it as faction tech for approval?"

The super confusing thing here is that this has been approved previously, and now you're all of a sudden telling him you really want to just archive it. That's not really fair, even though you've explained the reasons behind it. He's saying that he's completely willing to work with you and change it to your satisfaction, and THEN have Marf resubmit it as faction tech so that it won't just get auto archived.

He just wants to ensure that he can make changes that you want in order for it to be viable and approvable before he asks Marf to submit it as faction tech. Because if he didn't change anything, then you're obviously telling him it will just automatically be archived anyway.

I understand where you're coming from. And I understand any potential frustration. And I also understood what he was trying to ask. I don't make the site's rules. And I did admit that it was an oversight by both me and Clayton that this was approved in the first place.

Right, and I also stated that I understand all of that too.

What I'm wondering is why you haven't responded with any actual constructive criticism - something that SJ might be able to change so that if he asks Marf to submit it as faction tech it might actually have a chance at getting approved?
