DESCRIPTION
The UT-60D U-Wing utility starfighter is a highly versatile military transport craft originally developed by the Incom Corporation. One of the last Incom products to be developed before the company was nationalized by the Galactic Empire, the U-Wing was most prominently used by the Alliance to Restore the Republic during the Galactic Civil War, a large shipment having been "lost" by Incom shortly before the Imperial takeover which ended up in Rebel hands. As a result, U-Wing production was cut short, those few that made it off the production line being responsible for accomplishments that belied their small numbers.

The U-Wing roughly falls into the somewhat archaic "pinnace" category, being a small craft that can do a little of everything. Capable of transporting small numbers of passengers and cargo, it can also function as a ground-attack gunship, and even has enough firepower and maneuverability to mix it up in a nekfight, if called upon to do so. The ship nominally has a crew of 2, a pilot and optional copilot, as well as 2 optional door gunners and 8 other passengers. Cargo capacity is 10 standard tons. The protected by a light deflector screen, and is armed with 2 forward-firing medium laser cannons, plus 2 mounts for heavy infantry weapons to be fired out of the side cargo/troop doors, usually heavy repeating blasters. Though slower than most starfighters - topping out at 95 MGLT - the U-Wing is just as nimble, and is often used to deliver troops and cargo into tight spaces that would be impossible for a standard freighter or other larger, clumsier transport. The U-Wing is capable of crossing interstellar distances, being equipped with a class 1 hyperdrive, and can sustain its crew and passengers for up to 2 weeks in space.

Notably, the U-Wing uses Incom's trademark "strike foil" system. In flight, the main wings can be swept back at an angle, improving shield coverage and thermal dissipation from the engines, or swept straight forward, reducing the ship's profile and improving aerodynamics while also making it a smaller target. The wings forward configuration is said to resemble the letter "U" in the High Galactic alphabet, giving the craft its name.

U-Wings, despite participating in some of the Galaxy's most important recent conflicts, are exceedingly rare in the present day. Only small numbers were manufactured to begin with, and attrition over time has severely reduced the number of functional examples to be found outside museums and private collections. Nevertheless, they are historically significant and highly versatile vessels, highly valued by those who use them.

LEGALITY
Restricted. UT-60D U-Wings are starfighters, and are subject to extra licensing requirements and increased scrutiny by authorities.
