One Love, One Life[/b]
Hours later, Ussej arrived in the skies above Corellia. He made his way down to a starport where he found Ravinos’ vessel already docked. Ussej stepped out and, ignoring the Dock Masters cries for a landing fee, made his way towards the outskirts of the city. He had known full well the location of the Rendar Family Cemetery, as Ravinos had brought him there long before he had turned to the Dark Side of the Force. When Ussej arrived, he found Laili trapped within a stasis field created by the Dark Apprentice himself. Ussej pleaded with his former friend to let him go, but Ravinos told him that he would kill anyone who pretended to be a member of the Rendar Family. Ussej was taken aback by that statement as it proved that Ravinos did not know about Laili’s birth. Not wanting to waste any time, Ussej engaged Ravinos long enough to undo the stasis field and free Laili from her deranged brother. As Ravinos became distracted by Laili’s escape, Ussej used the Force to knock him back and escape. As they fled Corellia, Ussej told Laili that the only way she could ever successfully confront her brother was if she were to come with him to Onderon and train to become a Jedi Knight. Laili refused, but Ussej told her that it was her only option. Laili reluctantly agreed.
When they arrived on Onderon, Ussej set Laili up with personal quarters in the small, hidden Jedi Enclave that the Jedi Order had built long ago beneath the streets of Iziz. As Laili rested, Ussej contacted the Jedi Council on Kashyyyk and informed them of the situation. At first, they refused to train the sister of Darth Ravinos as they feared she would simply be used as a tool against them. However, Ussej was able to convince Damien that she was, in truth, the key to the Republic’s war effort because she was the only person who could turn Ravinos back from the Dark Side. Damien agreed and when the rest of the Jedi Council stood behind him they allowed her to be trained.
The next day, Ussej prepared for Laili’s first training session. It was to start at dawn, but Laili did not arrive until several hours later. When she finally did arrive, it did not take long for Ussej to figure out that she had a hangover. He demanded to hear her explanation as to why she was late and she told him flat out that she had gone to the bar and gotten drunk the night before. Ussej reprimanded her for it, much to her anger. However, he set it aside and began the training session. As he attempted to instruct her about Jedi philosophies on redemption, Laili became angry and the two argued over the meaning behind it. They both ended saying things they regretted and Ussej inadvertently brought Laili to tears, causing her to leave and end the training session early.
That night, after they had both taken some much needed rest, Laili reluctantly returned to the training chambers. However, instead of beginning a new round of training, Ussej apologized to her for her behavior in ways that she never would have imagined. Knowing that the time was right, Ussej professed that he had fallen in love with her, even though they had only known each other for one month. Laili felt that she had fallen in love with Ussej as well and when Ussej asked her to marry him she said yes.
Later that night, when most inside the Jedi Enclave were asleep, Laili led Ussej out into the streets of Iziz towards a small, abandoned apartment she had found the day before. They made their way inside and, after looking around, shared their first kiss. As the passion between them increased, they made their way into the bedroom and made love for the first time. The next morning, Ussej woke up to find a message waiting for him from Damien asking Ussej to meet him on Kashyyyk. A few hours later, Laili awoke to find Ussej cooking breakfast for them. As they sat down to eat, Ussej told Laili that he would be gone for at least a day so he could meet Damien on Kashyyyk. She told him that she would wait for him and, when they were done eating, Ussej left and made his way to Kashyyyk.
Half a day after leaving Onderon, Ussej arrived on the Wookiee homeworld. Wchen he arrived, he checked in at the small, hidden enclave and was told that Damien was currently meditating at the lake that the complex sat up against. Ussej made his way down the rocky path past the tall trees that bordered the Shadowlands. When Ussej found his old friend, they immediately spoke about the recent loss of Coruscant and what the Jedi Order would be planning to try to regain their territory. Damien was not confident that they could win the war, but Ussej reminded him that so long as they had faith anything would be possible. Damien soon changed the subject and spoke about Laili and how he could sense that Ussej had fallen in love with her. Damien warned him about the dangers of love and what it had done to those such as Dexon Kyjar and Lara Jace, but Ussej took the warning as a message that Damien would attempt to take Laili away from him and claim her for his own. Although Damien reminded him that he was already in love with the Queen of Onderon, Ussej became overly emotional and told Damien not to contact him again as he made his way back to his ship.
When Ussej returned to Onderon, he immediately told Laili of the situation and how she would have to be careful of Damien. However, Laili already knew about what had happened. She told Ussej that Damien had contacted her immediately after the argument on Kashyyyk. Ussej became even more suspicious, even going so far as to accuse Laili of wanting to be with Damien rather than him. She pleaded with him to come to his senses, but he had become so confused and so overly emotionally that he no longer knew what he was doing. He tried to leave, but Laili attempted to stop him from doing so. He hit Laili, causing him even more emotional stress as he ran from the apartment and made his way into Iziz.
