Matt .. r u thinking of Adonis? He was in greek mythology.

I think he was supposedly the most attractive man and because of this, Aphrodite (Goddes of Love) fell in love with him.

So in summary, religion useful? no. Belief useful? big yes.[/b]

That's borderline if not entirely contradictory to itself...If religion is useless then just get rid of all religions and then you're left with nothing but a person to believe in. And history's shown just what happens when people start worshipping a man(Waco, anyone?). Unless I'm missing something, What else do you believe in if not a Religion? Isn't Fate or Destiny a form of Religion? Or better yet; Karma? If I really am missing something, then enlighten me.

Faith, fate and destiny are things you believe in. Religion is something you are involved in where you believe in something. There is a big difference between religion and belief. Religion just groups a bunch of beliefs together and says to its members "this is the way it is", rather than letting you believe many different things. I call myself a Christian, as that is where the majority of my beliefs are, but I also believe things in Judaism, Islam and other religions around the world. I use Christian losely, however, because religions generally frown on you believing things from other religions.

Thanks. I felt that Karma and those kinda things were a form of Religion because believing in either one would be believing in a Higher Power(Karma being a sort of "You Reap what you sow" kinda power, Fate and Destiny being a "you have no choice in the matter" kinda power).

I don't mind religion, hey, if people feel they need something to believe in, the ket them. I just don't want those views foisted on me. I think that Jesus did exist, but the bible was originally Catholic proaganda.

alright ill go do that right now then.....

I think its widely known that im atheist but also a bit agnostic. I will say that religion while usefull for morale has nearly no uses. Some religions are even made for money *cough* scientology *cough*

I'm guessing you live in the bible belt. And you're against Homsexuality. Very devout. You are the person who gives religion a bad name, and fuels the fires of hatred, which causes wars. Religious difference is the biggest cause of war. Though Oil may soon take that title...

Brandon had it dead on with the differences of religion and belief. as it is widely known I am a Celt by definition, though I don't follow a set pantheon, sure in passing I need to cross an ocean I utter a small request to Llyr or Mannan for safe passage, but I think thats more done out of respect for the old ways, more mechanical... now though like all celts my personal beliefs are heavily centered on a balance and nature..however unlike most of any set religions I follow and love every time science discoveries something new, I don't go out and scream it contradicts what the teachings say and is thus false...I personally think that everything science proved fits perfect into all religions as long as you remember that what man wrote is more or less paraphrased so minor details can be left out or vaguely mentioned as they have no relevance to the modern world ( being the time that recorded history of man started)
Im celt, but my beliefs do come very Buddhist when it comes to seeking that balance within, and falling into sync with the cosmos, most other faiths have similar beliefs regardless... the in the 10 commandments all but 2 commandments are directly identical to the most important " mortal sins" the Egyptians had to confess or deny committing in order to pass through their tests before the scales of judgment.. it teaches us that religions are different in some ways but the core ideals that founded them are typically the same and provide a good overall idea to how a vast majority believe as an individual we should live up to..in my book its more of " who enforces such rules" and the politics that make it a religion
