It was chilling, that a thing this towering and this menacing also moved like a cat. No, this nightmare would not end with the day. But as her shield withstood the attack, and Mako landed a strike that sent the beast scurrying, Myrell dared to think they could end it themselves.

She didn’t see the metal flying from the shadows until it was almost too late.

Her first reflex was to step aside, but the old healer wasn’t as nimble as she’d once been. In the end, it was another Force shield that deflected the projectile in extremis. She felt the impact knock the wind out of her. As the shard continued its course down the hallway, Myrell put a knee to the floor, rattled and breathing heavily.

Mako's blade connected and an acrid stench filled the air as vaporized thing puffed from where the purple arc had hit the beast. Like a viper the thing hissed and recoiled back into the shadow, out of the faint humming glow of the pair of sabers.

It was Mako's first instinct to charge forwards, to chase down the wounded beast. That instinct was smothered by a rending creak that tore through the hallway as metal was ripped free of the ground, flying overhead, at Myrell'anay. Mako reached out, hand back as he touched the object with an extension of his being. He couldn't stop it, it was too large, too heavy, moving too fast and he was torn in too many directions to bring to bear the full might of his focus.

So he settled to alter it's course, shifting it's momentum enough to lessen the impact on the shield that Myrell'anay brought forth to protect herself.

"Myrell'anay!" He shouted back, snapping his attention forwards and to the darkness ahead once again. "Are you alright?" He worried out loud as he shifted back slightly. He dare not take his attention from the beast for even a split second, he had seen how fast it moved. Far too fast for it's size.

This obstacle was great, the darkness vast. But it was through it that they must go. His mind whirled for ideas, adrenaline pumping as he tried to calm his heart, to let go of his conscious self that was filled with questions. He needed answers, not questions.

Kane watched with widened eyes as the creature was hit, obviously hurt, but still managed to retreat enough to throw a javelin of metal at Myrell. Luckily she deflected it at the last moment. Wait no? There was no luck, only the Force. He shook his head and turned his attention forward. The creature was vulnerable to their lightsabers, and that's all the Kane needed. It was the one thing he excelled at, Force abilities be damned.

"Mako," he said to get the knight's attention to his right. "Let's advance one step at a time. Counter-attack when it comes into our light."

As if to emphasize his point, Kane took a step forward, then another. It was slow, deliberate, but it never put him beyond the shield or beyond the light. His dark eyes searched the darkness itself for the shifting and writing of the creature. Viridian blade humming, waiting, in front of him at the ready. Jumping ahead would be suicide, yet waiting was also suicide. Every moment they spent in place was another moment more creatures could encircle them. They had to move, and the only way was forward. Kane hoped he wasn't leading them to their demise.

If she could grin, she would. She looks down at the wound, still hurting, slow to heal, needs to heal now so she can keep playing!! She turns and scuttles into the archive room, more metal creaking and tearing as she leaps to the top of the panopticon and looks at the scientists - all dark and sleepy, all dry. She looks toward another light, an area she hasn't been yet. She feels more light there, more blood and meat to feed on.

She leaps to the door frame a floor above the Jedi on the opposite side of the archive from them and smashes the glass making the person float. He drops down, coughing and wheezing through his weird face as she picks him up and breaks him open. Euphoria as she lifts him over her mouth and starts sucking on the two halves, warmth rushing over her and turning him dark. The Dark Side drains him until he looks all dry like the rest and she throws him over the railing to the Jedi's feet as they enter the archive. Her arm is healed, she's ready to play again...

“I’m intact,” responded Myrell as she stood unassisted, her voice short, left hand on her ribs. Kane and Mako hadn’t turned away from the front, which was a good thing. Beyond them, the creature lurked. Myrell made it back to her allies and adjusted to their cautious pace. They were alert, now. She wouldn’t let the monster get the drop on them again.

Their steps took them to the edge of the archives and it became clear they would have to pursue their quarry there. The air was threatening and the chorus of their lightsabers’ low hums only added to the ambience.

“Now, it would be swell if at least some of the lifesaving data we’ve come seeking was still in one piece when we’re finished,” Myrell still managed to joke.

Before anyone could react, two halves of a body flopped to the ground before them with a wet smack.

Not in one piece. Good start.

But the old healer must have seen worse gore in her time. Seemingly unfazed, by the time the gasps died out she was already drawing conclusions. Body coloration. Blood hadn’t coagulated. A film of bacta sticking to the corpse betrayed where it’d been found.

“That one has been dead for minutes,” she remarked, brow furrowed. “Survivors.”

Mako's concerns about the immediate future were unfounded as the beast retreated further into the dark, back into the archives.

"Agreed, we move now." Mako said as Kane and Myrell'anay both said their piece. He wanted to be quick about taking up the space that the beast had given them, to advance to the doors.

"Can you pull archive data while we hold this thing off? Mako asked Myrell'anay, the sooner they could get out of there the better. Of course, everything changed as they hit the door and a fresh body hit the ground at their feet.

"Survivors?" He questioned, echoing the twi'lek Jedi. If there were still survivors that changed everything. He eyed the shadows above where the creature had come from before closing his eyes briefly to reach out into the darkness. The dark side clouded everything... But even through that... He felt life.

"Survivors." He nodded as he opened his eyes. That definitely changed things as he eyed the darkness beyond his lightsaber's glow. "Now we have two objectives." He said, stating the obvious as he stepped past the threshold and into the archives, expecting to be attacked at any moment as he moved forward, seemingly undisturbed by the looming danger as lives lay on the line.

Kane's jaw set like stone, and his eyes widened as the body fell in front of them. The moist thud it made was enough to make most people in the galaxy sick. The young, misguided Knight held his own though, diverting his gaze into the darkness, making sure his lightsaber was in front of him and ready at all times with both hands.

Closing his eyes he took a deep breath, then reached out with the Force. The whole area reeked of the dark side, but it wasn't the stillness he was looking for; he was looking for the darkness that moved. Was that small tingle of movement the creature or his fear getting the better of him? Kane returned to his immediate surroundings, just in time to hear Mako say they had two objectives.

"One at a time," Kane said, turning as calm and collected a glance he could muster Mako's way. It wouldn't work. He had the look of someone that was on the doorstep of hell, waiting for the door to open at a moment. "We're not good to the survivors if we split up and get ourselves killed. My vote's on pulling the data then we hunt for survivors." He looked back over his shoulder at Myrell. "How long will it take to pull the data?"

She looks back at the floating people, seeing gel water leaking from the one she broke. Beware the light, for it burns - Father's words. Need to put out the light. She scurries over to the unbroken glass case and grabs the bottom, slowly lifting it and ripping free wires and-

She drops the case, screeching and howling as her body burns, burning coursing over her without end. What is this!!!? What's burning??? She recoils and leaps away, whimpering to herself as she looks back at the case, broken like the first, gel water and sparks all over the floor. Hurt again, more light, more burning!! SHe CoUlDnT tAkE iT aNyMoRe.

She runs to the balcony and grabs half of the first glass case laying on the floor, lifting it high. She throws it toward the Jedi before leaping off the balcony toward them, claws bared, rage burning in her to match their light.

She tried to throw a bacta tank at you but electrocuted herself pulling it out the ground, then opted to throw half of the first one, already broken open, at you. She then entered Force Rage from the pain and lunged at you.

“Survivors first,” Myrell settled. Non-negotiable. Lives over data, especially when the creature was in the middle of actively killing them. Records could be retrieved later; Myrell doubted these mindless, bloodthirsty monsters had ever had any interest in inanimate archives.

She was about to formulate a plan when a loud crash heralded the creature’s return. This time, they were ready.

Myrell jumped back as the tank hit the ground and shattered in a burst of crystalline shards and goo. A second later the creature followed, claws bared, ready to kill them all. Rejuvenated. Force almighty, it was massive.

For the first time, Myrell shuddered.

“Surround it!” she barked. Inspiring her allies again, lightsaber in hand, she moved to lead by example.

Mako was half listening to the conversation between the other two Jedi as the majority of his attention remained on the deep shadows that surrounded them. There were sounds echoing out of the darkness, but without visibility it was hard to tell just exactly where they were coming from. Myrell'anay spoke words that were hard to disagree with and he echoed them.

"Survivors first." He nodded without looking away from the darkness, putting an end to any sort of discussion about what to prioritize. There wasn't any more time to discuss it however as Mako felt a tingling at the back of his neck. He leapt back, away from the strike zone of the half tank as it was flung from the darkness and shattered against the ground.

Moments later, the beast was in their midst and Myrell'anay shouted for them to surround it. Mako's eyes flicked over it, to the hand he had struck. It had recovered somehow. There wasn't time to think about how however and he moved to follow the older Jedi's instructions. He held his blade aloft as he moved, crossing behind Myrell'anay as he tried to circle around the thing, to get to the other side of it so the ripped open door to the archive was at it's back.

As he moved, he reached a hand out towards the pile of shattered glass. It was clumsy and quick work as he haphazardly scooped up the array of shattered pieces with the force and flicked his hand towards the beast. A spray of broken glass flew at the thing's face as he aimed for it's eyes, trying to perhaps blind it. Or hurt it. Or something. He wasn't sure anything could make a dent in the thing as he rounded it.

"Survivors first, then," Kane resigned. It wasn't a moment later he was leaping to the side to dodge half a bacta tank. He didn't have time to follow where the bacta tank skidded and crashed behind him, the creature was on them again. Kane's heart was practically beating out of his chest, holding his lightsaber firm in front of him.

At the call to surround it, Kane started side stepping the opposite way from Mako. He was careful to keep his blade between him and the creature, his eyes never leaving the thing. All together the Jedi formed a triangle around the creature, but it was massive. It could rip parts from the walls and the floor, and use them as weapons. It had presence of mind to retreat when hurt to heal. If it wasn't for Myrell'anay's encouragement through the Force, Kane knew he'd had fallen into completely despair.

It was time for Kane to act, too. Reaching out with the Force, and his left hand, he grabbed nearby shards of metal and glass. Much like Mako, he use the Force to fling them at the creature. Kane's attack wasn't necessarily aimed at a particular body part, however. He did take care to make sure that if he missed he wouldn't hit his fellow Jedi, but it was a general attack along the creature's back.
