Coruscant was the bustling jewel of the galaxy, the grand center of all civilization... or so it was said. The Jedi Knight Mako Krim wasn't so sure about that. He had never before been to the ecumenopolis of course, never seen it at the height of it's glory. It's current state wasn't much to brag about.

The Jedi had come to the planet discretely, a single vessel that snuck in under the current chaos that gripped the space lanes by the throat. A huge center of commerce, during the best of times, thousands... if not hundreds of thousands of ships bustled among the skies and stars, coming and going daily from the grand jewel. It took a bureaucracy of millions to keep order of the trillions that lived, worked, and travelled the planet. That order had come crashing down overnight.

More ships were on their way out than in, though there were still plenty of arrivals. Streams of refugees attempting to flee the chaos on the surface competed with inbound shipments that were stuck with nowhere else to make their deliveries. A hungry populace that still needed supplying. Pockets that still needed to be lined. And in it all a lone shuttle piloted by a Pyke went completely unnoticed.

The surface was no better off as Mako piloted the ship through the hazardous sky lanes. The semblance of orderly travel and traffic enforcement had been abandoned and it was with a wince and a grimace that Mako witnessed a mid-air collision unfold in front of him, juking the ship around the twisted clump of what were once two airspeeders as they began their hazardous plummet to the ground. The meteoric mass careened off a walking bridge, the occupants of it traveling at more of a panicked run as something stalked behind them. A squinted gaze revealed a smattering of small forms that lay crumpled on the ground behind the thing's wake.

Terror was the pervading aura that filled the air as heavily as the smoke of burning skyscrapers. Three that Mako could spot in the distance ahead. He had seen many more burning from orbit, like small flickering candlelight's amid the intermittently powered city. He imagined that in normal times the entire planet shone like a beacon from space, but their approach had revealed a hodgepodge of blackened and lit areas. The lights still buzzed in the sector they currently flew through, but for how long.

"It's like something out of a nightmare." Mako whispered as he flew the ship steady, steering slightly to dodge a swerving swoop bike that roared on past. "Or worse." He said nervously. The city smog that hung in the air held the ominous red hue of flames and darkness. It was difficult to make out the silhouette of the Grand Medical Facility coming up in the distance. Eventually it came into view though and Mako handed the control off to the R6 droid that he had brought along, freshly memory wiped with a blank navicomputer, just like the ship.

"Bring us in low and fast on the medical facility." Mako told the droid, pointing out their insertion point. The building stood out like a sore thumb among the other more blocky skyscrapers. It seemed like as good of a first stop as any on the massive planet. It was Mako's hope that they could get in, find whatever they might need, and then get out quickly to move on to the larger scope of the massive undertaking that was Coruscant. The Jedi had contacted the GHO and ISCRA, who were waiting in the wings for an opportunity to aid, should the Jedi create one. Despite that, the job that lay ahead was absolutely daunting, but Mako felt that he was in the right place. That this was where he was supposed to be.

Whatever the force that meant.

"Once you drop us off, keep to the air, stay in contact. We'll signal you for pickup." The Jedi patted the droid gently on the dome before checking his comlink. Satisfied, he turned to the other Jedi who had come along.

"Well... This is it. Last stop, Coruscant." He said with a toothy and yet somehow sheepish grin. It was a nervous habit, cracking a joke when the air was thick with tension. He shook his head at himself as he headed towards the door. The shuttle rocked slightly as it approached it's destination.

"Nightmares end when you wake up," Kane said, standing just behind Mako with his arms crossed over his chest. His finger tapped his arm at a rapid pace. Even at the worst of times, his home looked nothing like this. One could take every pickpocket, thief, murderer, and escort Kane knew on Nar Shaddaa, both living and dead, put them in the same arena and have them figure out which one would survive it all; it still wouldn't compare to the chaos that reigned on Coruscant.

He had seen enough, even before Mako had gone to the door. Kane made his way to the door first, leaning back against the bulkhead opposite of it. His dark brown eyes fixed on the floor as he searched within himself for a reason. Why had he come? Why did he care? Boros had many lessons for him over the years, mostly how to fight with a lightsaber. The one that stuck out the most was that everyone, even the street urchins that Kane called family, deserved a chance at a life without fear, violence, and crime. Everyone deserved to be happy.

When Mako approached, Kane turned his gaze to him. He'd heard the joke, and smiled.

"Last stop? No red light yacht after we clean up?" Kane asked. He could hear his own heart beating in his ears, the same pace as his fingers tapping his arm. "My master used to tell me something, before he was killed by the abominations." Kane turned back to the floor, his smile turning to a frown. "Every darkness has to end in morning light. All we can do is fight the tide until then."

Since their arrival in atmosphere, Myrell had barely moved from her spot by the viewport. Though she would not let emotion overtake her, this mission was more personal than any she could remember. For thirty years since she’d become a knight she’d spent most of her time propping up medical facilities across the galaxy in time of need. The Grand Medical Facility chief among them. The old healer had to have spent as much time there as within Jedi temples.

But at those final words, she turned to face Kane, a tattooed eyebrow raised in open defiance. For better or worse, Myrell’anay was not known to manage feelings.

“Long after morning light, darkness lingers. In corners and cracks, in caves and cellars. That is why we root it out.” Then she returned to the viewport.

That was an odd lesson. ‘Hold on and the problem will solve itself?’ If there was anything the Jedi didn’t need it was more complacency. No wonder it had come to be a problem, with masters drilling impressionable heads with such drivel uncontested.

Below them, Coruscant's surface went by in a blur. The whole planet had grown an aura of darkness and suffering that made the Jedi uneasy. Even the Grand Medical Facility seemed off to Myrell somehow. Well, no, not off. Monstrously wrong.

“I recommend the eastern bay for entry, instead,” she said, as much for her companions as for the droid. “It was used to deliver and store supplies and cargo. It has a more direct access to our objective than the main entrance where patients are brought in, and a freight lift that travels between all levels. Not counting the reduced risk to come across these abominations than in the triage or operating rooms. Or corpses,” she frowned, lost in reflection. “They could be infected.”

Nightmares end when you wake up.

If that wasn't the right of it then Mako didn't know what was. This was no nightmare that they were dealing with here, just the dark itself unleashed on Coruscant. To the trillions that lived on the world, this was their new reality. There was no waking up in cold sweats and fear to the safety of a comfortable bed, or an uncomfortable alley. No. There was just waking up to more fear. Day after day until someone put a stop to it.

The philosophical exchange between the other two Jedi gave Mako a pause, and he frowned. Riding the coattails of Kane's previous comment it seemed odd to note in one moment that this nightmare would not end with the coming day, then comment how one only had to hold out the night. No, that wasn't it.

"You have the right of it Myrell'anay." Mako said, grim, after a moment. It was for this reason that the Sith still managed to plunge the galaxy into darkness, generation after generation. Every time the Jedi took them out of the picture, some lingering darkness shifted into the deep places of the galaxy, out of sight and out of mind. It lingered. Bided it's time until the next generation of Jedi grew complacent and idle.

"There is no waiting for the morning light here, nor rooting this dark from the cracks and crevices during the day." Mako said as they approached. "We three are too few to put a stop to this entirely." He shook his head before forging on.

"Today is a day of small victories. Every life we save, every piece of information that can be put to use, to fight this darkness for a brighter tomorrow. That is how we win." He nodded this time, the focus of their presence on the planet becoming ever more clear even as he spoke it. "We are here to tip the scales back towards balance, one weight, one life, one piece at a time." It sounded grim in the face of reality, but he felt hope in his words.

It was in this that Mako found realization. Epiphany. How it was that things always came to this, the darkness rising and the light only rising up to meet it when it had already cast it's shadow across the galaxy. Was that what the force had put before him, why it had brought him here to the deepest bowels of the dark? The light won it's grand battles, cast the darkness down, and then let peace reign. The dark never stopped fighting, scratching, biting, clawing its way back up out of the pit from which it came.

"R6, put us down on the eastern bay!" Mako shouted up to the droid, putting his profound realizations aside for the time being. There was no more time for deliberation or philosophy. Now was a time of action and every second spent in deliberation was a direct betrayal of those who suffered below. Now was the time for deeds.

"May the force be with us." Mako said to his fellow Jedi as he felt the ship descend and the landing bay popped open to hover just above the floor of the eastern bay. Mako stepped forwards, boldly into the dimly lit landing bay. His eyes adjusted quickly as he felt solid, unmoving durasteel underneath his boots and he scanned the place with his eyes while centering himself in the light. A few abandoned craft sat idle on the platform, stacks of crates built up near some where the crews had been in the process of unloading. The place appeared abandoned, but something felt... wrong.

Mako stepped forwards, heading deeper into the hangar until he came across something he dreaded finding. A body. Glancing about, he knelt down next to it. A planetary defense trooper judging by what remained of his armor and rank insignia. Grisly wounds criss crossed his entire torso. His face was damaged far beyond recognition. A comlink buzzed idly at his belt and Mako picked it free as he looked up at his two fellow Jedi with a grim expression on his face.

Kane shook his head. Would you look at that Master Boros. Seems not everyone in the order was as keen to follow vague cryptic philosophies as you were. The way of loose concepts and preaching sermons was over, it seemed. Good thing Boros taught him to use a lightsaber, and well; Kane might have still been a padawan otherwise. Still a padawan and safe.

Kane followed Mako when they descended into the landing bay. He kept a pace or two behind them, lest they both get taken out by the same surprise attack. Darkness hung like a wall around them. No matter how hard Kane tried he couldn't see the actual walls of the landing bay. Worse even, that shadows danced among the abandoned crafts and shipment boxes. The air was chokingly thick, and Kane couldn't tell if it was the weight of the darkness or the city musk of Coruscant. Nar Shaddaa had nothing on this.

He'd almost passed Mako before turning to see the body, and practically freezing in his tracks. Kane was no stranger to death; yet even he felt a cold shiver run up his spine. His dark brown eyes watched the knight kneel down to expect it; Kane on the other hand took an instinctive step backwards. The body was mangled, like they'd had the snot kicked out of them right before waking up in the middle of a swoop track on race day.

"Looks like it was done quick," Kane said, eyes adverting the shadows around them. His heart beat in his ear as he deepened his breaths to try to calm it. Every sense, especially his Force sense, was on high alert; like he was a rat and somewhere in the dark there was a rib-cat stalking him. The dead trooper meant people were here, and given how handily the trooper was slaughtered with the lack of abomination bodies laying about, Kane was guessing they'd find those people nearby in a similar state. If they made it that far.

___________________________
The Sith Order was a very lonely place for anyone. Its purpose was to brutally bring up force-sensitive warriors at an early age. Being a member of the Sith Order doesn´t lock you into the order. But only by completing your stay at the academy and learning the basics will you be considered a Sith Champion. From there, you start your solo training. If you manage to be accompanied by a superior, the interaction can boost the young, while in this case, knowledge was kept from each other; only the powerful had specific knowledge. In this instance, the Sith Champion, Shredder Everclear, had heard from his peers about these abominations. Throughout the Sith Order, rumors of these abominations spread. However, Shredder wasn´t sure about these rumors and decided to get a better look for himself. For the purpose of knowledge that every Sith seeks along with power. He placed himself in harm's way to investigate this instance similar to the Jedi flith. But they have to attain permission for Sith to take whatever they want according to the will of the code. The words of the former Sith ruler echo throughout the mind of Shredder as his ship flew into the orbit of Coruscant.

"Choose someone as a successor, and you will inevitably be succeeded. Choose someone hungrier, and you will be devoured. Choose someone quicker, and you won't dodge the blade at your back. Choose someone with more patience, and you won't block the blade at your throat. Choose someone more devious, and you'll hold the blade that kills you. Choose someone more clever, and you'll never know your end.
Despite these cautions, an apprentice is essential. A master without an apprentice is a master of nothing."

Letting out a sigh, Shredder sat along the bridge of the C-9979 vessel, and along the scanner, Shredder could see the traffic from orbit. More importantly, it was chaos. Many ships flee the orbit of Coruscant. While few had accidents in what seemed to be head-on collisions in space, Shredder carefully navigates through space traffic. He made his way toward the orbit, and from there he would descend into the atmosphere of Coruscant.

As he flew the ship, he pressed one button along his wrist, which quickly hummed to life. In that same instance, and several moments later, several shufflings of feet could be heard coming his way. Placing the computer system on automatic, the ship begins to descend in automatic mode, with the computer avoiding any traffic or danger that could harm the ship. However, what was coming toward Shredder wasn´t enemies but his allies reprogram to serve his every whim and was like his friends if he could ever have any. The four BX-series Droid Commandos arrive on the bridge, each properly equipped with secondary and primary weapons. As they arrived at the bridge, Shredder said, Now one of you takes command over the ship. Now the rest of you move to the hangar bay, prepare an infiltrate, and extract on my command. Our mission is rather simple: to gather whatever the value of Coruscant.

The commando driods move into position while Shredder, and one driod was left on the bridge as he watched the vessel enter the orbit and shortly descend. The former pliot Shredder had programmed the ship to head to the Grand Medical Facility. Which is a common target facility in clone wars and in general. Shredder closes his eyes to the world and reaches out to the force. While the computer was compiling all the information regarding lifeforms, identifying vehicles, picking up energy readings, and finally making long-distance visual readings,

Now the Bx Series Commando Driod currently sits where Shredder was formerly and maintains the controls of the ship. Just in case autopilot didn't work, it would take over control should something happen that conflicted with his nature.

The BX-Series Commando Droid represents the most advanced soldier in the Separatist droid armies. The droid's design follows the bipedal, humanoid form of the B-1 battle droid, with skeletal limbs ending in large bifurcated digits, and an ovoid head containing two sensors resembling eyes. Unlike the B-1, the Commando Droid was constructed out of much lighter and hardier alloys. This, along with its advanced gyroscopic stabilizers and reinforced joints, made it quicker and more agile than the standard battle droid, and even some sentient soldiers. The BX was programmed for infiltration, assassination, and guarding the Separatist's most valuable commanders and benefactors. It displayed mastery of many different blasters, melee weapons, and explosives, and proved to be a match for ARC troopers and Jedi alike. Rather than being used en masse to swarm opponents, the BX Commandos were often dispatched in small groups on sensitive missions behind enemy lines. As such, its processors were highly adaptable and programmed with sophisticated analysis and problem-solving abilities.

BX-series droids, though feared galaxy-wide, are not nearly common as other battle droids of the era are today. Not only were they produced in much smaller numbers than their predecessors, but their advanced self-preservation protocols make the droid rather challenging to hunt. The exact number of functioning units is still a mystery, and sentients are advised to use caution if they encounter one. They are equip with 2 Heavy Blasters, and 2 VibroBlades.

“May the Force be with us.”

Myrell followed the two knights into the bay at her own slower pace. As predicted, the eastern bay seemed free of imminent danger, so the old Jedi took a moment to open her mind and reach out for signs of life. The results only offended the senses.

Like medbays across the galaxy, the Grand Medical Facility was a place of healing and hope, but of suffering, too, and of death, even in the best of times. Myrell knew it all. But it had changed. And these were not the best of times.

“And here I distinctly remember saying to be mindful of corpses,” she chided, snapping back to the present. “Unless you eliminated the possibility of these abominations carrying bloodborne pathogens, Knight Krim? In which case, please do share your methodology. I would so love to have a look.”

“The freight lift is here on our left,” Myrell continued after a pause. “The lowest floor has the archives and security room. This floor is reception and triage. Most of the specialized rooms are on the higher floors, including laboratories and operating rooms,” she listed from memory. “The archives ought to be safest. I suggest we begin with the lower levels and look to make sense of things.”

Mako's eyes lingered on the dead man's face for a moment, noting the individual scores that made up each tract of the mauling that had disfigured it. He closed his dark eyes and tried to scrub the image from his mind, but it was too late, burned into the recesses of his memory.

"Done quick, but there was no peace for this one." He said with a sigh as Myrell'anay brought up the rear, her chiding voice cutting the darkness like a knife to slide a blade of white hot reprimand between his ribs. He winced. She had in fact warned of just such a thing and he had blatantly violated the elder Jedi's warnings. It was too late for regret though, what was done was done.

"No blood." He said simply, showing his hands where he had pointedly avoided touching the actual corpse. The comlink buzzed quietly in his hand and he inspected it gingerly. It was clean. "Clean." He said, holding it up for the twi'lek to see. A small twinkling humor crept into his eyes as he considered the later part of her reprimand and he gestured to the corpse.

"As you can see, the corpse in question remains a corpse. Theoretically this means it will continue to do so. I propose that unlike with the AMS virus, these abominations are in fact, not, contagious." It felt grim to find humor in such bloody matters, but Mako needed to remain light, his heart floating above the crashing waves of darkness and despair that consumed the planet. He glanced back at the corpse one more time, just to make certain that it did in fact remain one.

"We should proceed." He nodded, turning in the direction that Myrell'nay had suggested. "If we can reach the security room, we might be able to piece together what exactly happened here. And maybe bring the buildings security measures back online." He said as he turned the corner of another transport, and stopped. There were more bodies. Bloody carnage had reigned in this passageway between ships and he gulped before motioning the others past to a different pathway through the ships and crates. One that wouldn't require them to dirty their feet as much as they made their way in the flickering dark to the security lift.

Mako gripped the unlit hilt of his lightsaber as he neared the security lift. The large turbolift doors were cracked open, a heavy metal crate jammed between the doors awkwardly. Whatever had moved that crate possessed... strength, far beyond what Mako could muster with his own physicality. Or it possessed a strong command of the force. Neither boded well for the trio of Jedi.

"The lift is still functional it seems." Mako said as he peered past the crate and into the partially open passageway to spot the floor of the lift still present. More bodies, tucked away in a corner where they had been slaughtered after fleeing to the lift it seemed. Luckily, this left most of the large lift floor clear of blood, the easier to avoid any bloodborne pathogens. Mako stepped onto the lift, tentatively, peering into the corners, lightsaber unlit but ready at hand. So far just quiet and shadows stalked them, but it had his anxieties heightened as he crossed to the control panel and keyed the button for the lowest level. "Going down." He said, the humor lost in his voice however as he eyed his fellow Jedi.

The R6 droid of course was long gone with the transport at this point. The droid had expertly hovered the shuttle for the scant few seconds it took for the Jedi to disembark, closed up shop and sped along to merge back in with the chaotic traffic that bustled about as some fled, some went about their lives, and others just panicked. The air was relatively safe, so far none of the things that stalked the streets displayed a predilection towards flight, which meant the only hazards were others that sought safety in the skies. R6 would keep a careful perimeter, maintaining sight on the building in which it's master had stepped while staying casual.

Kane winced at the word "clean." While Mako hadn't gotten blood on themselves, there was nothing clean about the death; about any of the deaths happening across Coruscant. The flooding of his senses with a cacophony of despair and fear almost had him wishing he could cut his senses off entirely. He'd always been rather sensitive to such things, even as a kid; he'd watched many a men and women meet their end, and had felt every single one as he watched. It had been what had drove him to stay clear of doing anything more than pickpocketing.

The word "proceed" broke Kane from his focused searching of the shadows beyond them. The plan was set then. As he followed Mako, there were more bodies. They weren't the only ones, Kane was sure. A landing pad as large as this one would take a lot more shredded and broken bodies to make it smell the way that it did. Kane found himself thanking the dark this time, at least for the small mercy of hiding the true amount.

Kane followed Mako onto the lift, being careful not to step in any of the blood. When the lift walls surrounded him, he turned his back to one, keeping his body square with the pile of bodies that could at any moment return. His lightsaber hilt still clung to his belt; there wasn't quite a reason just yet to unclip it, but his right hand was slightly open and ready to call the weapon to its palm with the Force at a moment's notice. Kane was so tense he barely felt the lurch of the lift starting it's descent; so tense that even opening his mouth to speak was a struggle he decided not to endure.

The vessel, under the command of the Sith Champion Shredder, continues to descend into the atmosphere. However, at that time, the Sith vessel had already descended. Since Shredder had already been there prior to their descent, his attention was solely focused on reaching out to the force. But for whatever reason, he could feel several presences here filled with force. Not just one member could feel the foul powers of the dark side here within Coruscant. Not only that, the scanners begin to pick up several interactions with life. As the Sith vessel gathers the necessary information regarding the development of the current situation,

Shredder could feel the direct impact of the things that he could sense on the planet's surface. Something wasn´t right as the ship finally reached the atomsphere above the city of Coruscant. The Sith opens his eyes to see the world before him. Chaos was the current story; gray smoke consumed the sky. Not to mention several towers in the city were in flames, and for whatever reason there was no security policing the sky, and the devices in place didn´t work properly. Letting out a sigh, Shredder said, Let's move. Our objective is to analyze Grand Medical Facility files and any valuable data we find along the way.

The BX-Commando Driod complied and continued to monitor the ship's computer systems, as the ship also complied with its previous orders to take the vessel to its primary destination. Shredder had watched from the bridge, as he was now able to concern himself with the damage to this place. He was eager to get his hands on anything valuable so he could maybe use it to become stronger.

Well, that was the Sith way. The way to attain power was rare, and the Sith normally worked alone. His learning of the dark side has decreased due to his leaving the Sith Order Academy. However, in his defense, the Sith Order is a collection of indepent warriors driven by their own ambitions. At this time, his ambition led him to the Grand Medical Facility. The time it took for him to arrive on the scene wasn´t long. He knew within his mind that this place could hold a lot of data and opportunities.

The current position of the vessel was exactly 50 meters away from the large tower of GMF. As they approach, it seems that the security system of the tower isn´t active. The Sith cleared his metallic voice as he said, ¨Lock into the Grand Medical Facility immediately. I want to test and see how exposed this system is. More importantly, I want to know who is home. Fire at will!!

The BX commando Battle Droid was ready and followed through on the orders of his superior to the letter. He carefully aimed at the facility. All eight heavy lasers are aimed at the pillar-supporting system that holds up massive buildings. At its command, it masters all laser fire upon the GMF in an attempt to see the reaction of those inside or even the reaction to the tower defense system. However, it should be mentioned that Shredder watched from the cockpit window along with his BX Commander as well, and their vessel wasn´t in danger of being hit by a massive skyscapper should it fall.

If it was targeted by anyone or anything, However, they would comply according to the alerts given to him by either his eyes, the ship's computer scanners, or force. However, Shredder was no fool; the rest of his party was at the ready along the hangar, awaiting further instructions from their master.

Hungry...so hungry...

She saw red, bathed in it, slurping the sweet nectar from another wriggling worm like it was the last it's it's kind, singing along with the warm as it sang to her in her grasp. So messy, but so good, she licks the leftovers from her claws and drops the last worm, gazing over the last of her meals. All still, all dry, no...nooooo, this wasn't enough! She wanted more! SHE NeEeEeEeEeEeEDS MORE!!! She lets out a morose howl, strained hisses and shrill wails sailing through barren corridors of dry still worms, carved up to make sure they didn't hide anything...wait...

Something draws her attention, a fresh scent in the air, bringing her snout up as she sniffed and a long rough tongue lapped at the ether. Sounds make her ears stand at attention, tongue catching trickles of blood as they slide off them. Singing, like the worms, but lower, boring. Father wants her to make them sing higher, need to obey Father, Father knows best. Her claws grind against the floor in harmony with their song, she will sing with them too. So familiar, those noises...did she sound like...like...Li...what is...no, no, all that matters is the feast. She hungers, more worms near...more blood, fresh blood.

It was a quiet descent.

Halfway through it, Myrell thought to prod the facility again, especially the lower levels, but decided against it. There was no good outcome. Then the walls shook around them, faint but noticeable.

Another perplexed frown. “What was that?”

Myrell doubted anyone would have answers. They knew they were headed into dangerous territory. Worse than dangerous. And they knew they were working with painfully little information as to what they would face. Nothing was out of the question. A little shaking was quite low in the list of all that could go wrong.

“Once we arrive,” Myrell began when the lift neared their destination. Calm and enunciating clearly. She had her role to play and she would play it to the best of her capacity. “The security room will be directly ahead, in the middle. The archives encircle it. They will be both left and right past a small corridor.”

A pause. “Security footage will bring us no benefit until we take the time to consult it. Archive data can be recovered quicker and consulted later in a safe place. Unless we consider splitting up to cover all tasks simultaneously.”

The lift stopped. The doors opened.

The lift gave a sharp lurch, then began to plummet. Down. Down. Darkness consumed them momentarily as something shook the building and the dim emergency lights flickered. The light returned. Mako glanced about, first at the piles of the dead, who remained still. Then to his allies.

Myrell'anay questioned the noise, the tremor, but otherwise seemed solid and resolute. Her age and experience showed well as she began to calmly enunciate their goals. This was her bit of the operation, the first stretch of the rally that would be Jedi operations on Coruscant. Mako glanced at Kane. The young knight was a tightly wound spring of tension. Mako breathed. He tried to keep his own fears, own anxieties at bay as the lift plummeted into the dark.

"The archive data is the highest priority." Mako said as the lift began to slow, approaching the lowest level. "If we can confirm the archives are safe enough for you to work," He nodded to Myrell'anay then continued, "Then I will split off to see what can be done about bringing the security systems back online." Mako glanced at Kane, who by far seemed the most nervous of the two younger knights. This wasn't Mako's first descent into the dark unknown.

"Kane, stick with Knight Myrell'anay if we split up. It is of dire importance that the data here makes it's way back into the hands of our Order." He gave him a firm nod, trusting the young knight to do his duty. If everything went well, then they would be on their way quickly. But things did not often go well. The lift settled to a stop and Mako turned towards the door instead of finishing the thought.

The door hissed open and pitch darkness yawned ahead. His lightsaber ignited with a snap-hiss, the thrumming blade raised overhead to cast purple shadows out into the darkness beyond. He gulped his fear down, his anxiety. He tugged at the little ball of light that glowed within his spirit, let it breathe through him, let it warm him as he grasped at the energy there to burn away the creeping dark that threatened to spill into him. And then he stepped forwards, into the dark.

There were no signs of carnage in this deep, dark hall. Not at first anyways. The corridor that led to the security room seemed clear. Mako motioned towards the archive doors where they sat closed and dark. The only light besides their sabers were the dimly lit panels that glowed beckoningly at each of the doors. He approached cautiously, keeping his eyes, ears, and senses alert. It was quiet so far down. Quiet and dark. But something had the Knight on edge, though he could not yet place it.

"Someone rang the karking dinner bell," Kane said, eyes fixed on the oldest Jedi Knight. His hands practically held the wall beside him as the lift plummeted. Then Mako gave him the order to stay with Myrell'anay, and Kane felt himself torn. It should be him to split off. He was the gutter trash, the insufferable existence of Nar Shaddaa. He was nothing more than a sword in a time when the order needed good Jedi. Damn it, master Boros. Why'd he's have to train Kane the way he did!?

"Got it." Kane didn't even recognize himself saying it. His hands released the walls beside him as the lift slowed. His dark brown eyes turned to the older Knight as the lift slowed to a halt. The door opened and Mako ignited his lightsaber. Kane stayed in the lift for a moment, letting Mako take the first steps into the unknown. "I've sliced into mainframes before. Can you point me to which one we're going to need?"

Kane left the lift second, following Mako at a small distance. He hadn't lit his own lightsaber, following a rule that igniting such a weapon only escalated conflict. Even as a pickpocket on Nar Shaddaa, Kane wanted to deescalate. The hilt was always ready, and his right hand always wanting, though.

If you had told Kane even a month before that he'd be risking his skin for a bunch of civilians he never met, with people he met only days before, Kane had told you that you were crazy. Here he was though, on the front lines. The air was still, and stuffy. The sounds muffled from the outside, and the smell grotesque. He couldn't help but wonder how the hell he had landed himself in such a position.

___________________________

The BX-Series Commando Battle Droid sat along the bridge. More importantly, there was a thud, as it seems heavy lasers had managed to damage the GMF towers, and there was no reaction from the building security forces at this time. Surely this place had gone to sh*t, and chaos had consumed the homeworld of Coruscant. The Sith Champion smirked as he said, ¨ Good.¨ was the word that came out of Sith's mouth upon being alerted to the new development by his ploiting commando driod. Whoever was contacted had just shredder to let him know they had arrived at the Grand Medical Facility.

Since no response from pending security forces of any kind led Shredder to think that the area was clear, however, for now, that was the case, but for how long will that soon be found out? Over the comlink, Shredder had instructed the BX-1 Series Commando Battle Driod. To officially bring the ship for drop-off and resume flying throughout the traffic of Coruscant to blend in with the chaotic state of this planet.

He had ensured that Battle Droid kept flying until it was summoned and asked for pick up. Now within the hangar doors, as the ship made its way towards the northern landing platform, it attached itself to the Grand Medical Facility. Going by the reading picked up from his ship scanners, there was life within this structure. However, the force didn´t allow the Sith to determine the exact count and location. However, one thing was for sure: he was not alone. That is why he had three of his Bx-1 Series Commando Driods come with him, who were waiting in full gear with their respected weapon and melee weapon of choice.

The Sith C-9979 landing craft attempted to land, and the door made hissing sounds as it opened up. Surely the Sith and his three Bx-Commando Droids were welcome to the scene of the foul smell of blood. Shredder commanded the forces to advance as he made his way off the landing platform, heading for the hangar bay of the medical facility. There were several bodies along the ground; one body stood out. His attire was that of a doctor. Kneeling down, he searched the body, looking for a key card that would give him access to the GMF system. His objective was to slowly but surely reach that; however, the only thing he was forced to do was move forward.

It didn´t take long for the shredder to find what he was looking for on the dead body. Which was a key card that would allow him further access to the system should he reach the computer system of this place. However, Shredder had an unease feeling that this wasn´t going to be a cake walk. He stood up from his crouching position over the dead body he had stolen and found the key card of one Doctor Eleast.

Shredder had cleared his mechanic voice; due to his operation, his voice was not normal human but sounded similar to that of a machine. Regardless, the group of machines made it into the lift, and with a click of a button, they read the map along the Grand Medical Facility walls. The Sith group finds themselves heading directly for the control room of this facility. At this current time, Shredder wants the complete map of this place so he can do what he came here for and leave.

The Sith spoke in a firm tone to relay order to his driods, and they were, ¨Heavy Blasters in the ready position. Don´t engage in combat. At least there are hostile movements or actions that occur to me or you. Our objective is simple: let us have fun to our hearts content. The lift would move in the direction heading toward the level at which the control room was located. This was, of course, after Shredder pressed the right button and cloaked himself in the darkness of the force.

He was thinking this place would be perfect for him to practice his stealthing ability. However, all the actions of Shredder were an attempt, and should something happen to effect his actions. He would act accordly, and handle each situation that occur.

They were close now, she could smell their stench clear as the sweet blood that flowed in them. So tempting, so delicious, she needed it so badly...but they smelled too. Something makes her hairs stand, something bright and foul to her mind, her very being which craves the dark corners, safe in their embrace. A memory stirs, Father's voice echoing - beware the Light, for it will burn you. The Light...Jedi.

She watches them from the darkness, hunched down and watching the light one of them held wearily. She sees, she remembers something, Father's voice speaks again - beware the Light, for it will burn you. She reaches out and claws at the panel beside her with a harsh growl, claws grinding against the metal and making such sweet shrill noises. They would sing too, she would make them. Careful though, many of them, all strong, but she won't flee, she can't flee. Cornered, she was, cornered and hungry, their lights can't stay lit, she needs to feast NOW!!!

She reaches into the Dark Side and force howls down the corridor before sprinting ahead, leaping onto the wall opposite the Pyke's light before leaping again to claw at him.

The plan was sound. As they advanced in the darkness, following Mako, listening to his voice, Myrell knew the plan was sound. But something else bothered her.

“A bit of kindness, Knight Seros,” she said, stopping just a second to look at the man before she resumed her walk. “Everyone here is valuable.” It didn’t fit with the words spoken, but he’d know. And perhaps his feelings ought to be better under control.

Again the older knight went last, but she’d shared the way with them. It wasn’t far.

They didn’t make it.

The scream came first, a deafening blow that attacked not only the ears but the mind and their very being, and if the Jedi had been on their guard, they couldn’t have expected that particular flavor of assault. Myrell doubled over and smashed her hands over her cone ears, stunned as monstrous steps echoed down the corridor. Then the thing was on them.

Having been the farthest from the source, Myrell recovered just fast enough to shield Mako with a protective barrier against the initial attack. Then she let the light in herself inspire her allies in the face of the abomination, hope and courage to counteract the fear and despair that swirled around this perversion of the dark side like an aura. She hadn’t even reached for her lightsaber. For the first time, Myrell had a good look at the beast. Walking on four limbs—five?—yet three times as tall as she was and longer still. Flesh like dripping off of it. And those claws, long like her forearm. An atrocity.

Here?

She’d thought the archives safest. Perhaps they were; she had no way to tell just how bad it was on the upper levels. But if anything happened to one of the knights because of her call, Myrell wouldn’t soon forgive herself.

“Feel the strength within you,” she called for Mako and Kane. “The darkness has no hold. We banish it together!”

Then at last her lightsaber was in her hand.

The trio of Jedi proceeded down the darkened hallway. They didn't make it very far as hushed words were exchanged between them. Even being alert and aware, there was little that Mako could do as a sudden screech pounded off his eardrums.

Mako clutched one large hand to his head, staggering back as he raised his lightsaber blindly to point it down the hallway ahead. it was the best defense he could muster under the circumstances, gripping his saber's hilt strongly as he blinked pain from his eyes and tried to look down it's length as something surged out of the shadows.

Mako blinked away tears as the pain started to recede and something bounced off of the barrier that Myrell'anay had managed to summon in front of him. He shifted his saber as he regained his solid footing on his backfoot, angling the blade towards the foe. He got a good look at the thing for the first time, only for a split second as purple light washed across it. Sinew and nerve. Hair and bone and gnashing teeth.

His blade lashed out at the outstretched claw that had rebounded off of the force barrier, a swift swipe aimed at it's wrist(?), intended just as much to harry as to harm. Mako wasn't sure just how much good such tactics would be against the beast, but he felt hope well within his chest as Myrell'anay worked her little wonders.

His arm was swift, fluid, and he was light on his feet, prepared to dance back away from the blow as he struck. He held the blade in a firm yet loose one handed grip, his muscles prepared to whip away or swing forwards in response to the surging mass before him. His off hand still lay close to his head, but the pain of the beasts howl was lessening and he was beginning to draw upon the life and light and hope that filled his heart, insulated against the dark as it was by his fellow Jedi.

Kane frowned at Myrell's words. Everyone here is valuable. It reminded him of the time his late master had taken him out to a field and had him watch the local fauna. "You can learn a lot from nature," his master had told him while they sat. "The predators hunt the prey, and then when the predators die themselves they feed the plants that the prey eats. Everything has a niche- a role to play." Kane didn't understand it at the time; just some more cryptic speak from the old man that didn't mean much. Hearing it from a second Jedi, now Kane wasn't so sure.

There wasn't much time to ponder it. A scream, unlike any Kane had ever heard before, slammed into him. He covered his ears, and grit his teeth. A much smaller, normal scream of his own escaping as he staggered backwards. It was like a lightsaber in one ear and out the other. Everything in between spasmed in pain. No sooner had it stopped than Mako was under attack. Kane couldn't see at first, having to blink away the tears before he was able to catch a small glimpse of the terror that filled the hallway in front of them.

The thought of being brave started to crumble, until the Force flowed through Kane like a warm embrace. It wasn't his own doing; must have been Myrell. Shaking the last tears from his eyes, Kane used the Force to call his lightsaber to his right hand and ignited it. The viridian blade added a jade hue that danced with Mako's purple blade. A dance of light that bathed and rippled along the creature in front of them, at least partially. Kane stepped up, keeping well enough away from Mako to allow for lightsaber combat but keeping on line with him to form a single fighting front.

Attacking the creature at the same time would work best, due to its size, but to do that they'd have to venture into the dark- into its domain. Kane resolved to defend Mako's flank for now. His nerves eased a little, not that his lightsaber was in hand. It was something he never could quite explain. Holding the hilt with both hands he moved his lightsaber in front of him, angling the blade toward the top of the creature while keeping his hands down around his hips, waiting. There had to be a way light the hallway, a way to take the fight to the creature.

Her claw sails and lands on something heavy, gouging holes in the floor while still barely scratching the Jedi in their blue ball. That isn't right, he should be singing right now!! She rears up and places another hand on the ball, hammering and clawing at it to get at him, he couldn't keep that ball up forever, he didn't have enough light (@Arcangel ). There's a flash and a swish, her mind warns her as she sees it move - beware the light, for it will burn you. She tries to pull back, but the light still passes through some of her arm. She reels back, retreating into the dark, screeching in pain, glowing red eyes still staring dagger at the Jedi as pained screams became soft whimpers.

More hissing and snapping, more glowing lights appearing, but one of the Jedi looks dimmer, more tired (@Volene ). She can't slow down or they'll hurt her more, she digs into the floor and pulls something hard and sharp out, throwing it toward the tired one before retreating back toward the door frame.
