Hal listened intently to Andreus when he spoke. The man seemed to be telling him very private information despite him having nearly beaten him to death minutes ago. On top of all that he couldn't believe that Andreus would make a joke about what he had done. Did he really forgive him? Or maybe he just knew that it wasn't entirely Hal's fault that this happened. Hal hoped it it was a little of both.

As Andreus continued on Hal had trouble wrapping his mind around all the information. Apparently Andreus was happy with Sorran's training methods but Hal still disagreed with them strongly. He felt it was best to possibly just keep that to himself for the time being and just do his best to help Andreus actually learn how to fight. It was the least he could do after what he'd done.

The information regarding Kamino was the most troubling. Hal wasn't sure what to make of it or how to respond in this situation. He hadn't had something this dark happen to someone he knew since he had left slavery. Considering that was nearly 11 years ago Hal was fairly rusty dealing with serious issues. The rest all seemed so irrelevant in comparison. Despite that Hal thought it was best to acknowledge each thing Andreus said, starting with the martial training and Andreus' thoughts on it.

"I can understand you wanting me to go full force. You're right about the Sith. They won't give you time to adjust but do you know what will happen if I do go all out every time? Exactly what just happened. Again and again. I'll break you, over and over. You wont learn anything from that except how to get your ass beaten. If you really want I can do some...rough training but I'll say when we stop. I also won't have you getting pissed off because you think there's no point. If that's what your going to do then the offers off the table.", Hal finished for a second. It felt odd speaking that way to someone much older then him. He just hoped that Andreus would listen to what he had to say. The path he was taking learning how to fight would be long, painful and much harder then if he would just listen to Hal. "About Kamino I...I don't know what to say. I can't imagine what you went through so I don't think what I can say will mean much. I do know that if you ever need someone to back you up from now on don't hesitate to give me a call."

Hal hoped Andreus would take his offer for assistance as more then just words. It was important to Hal that Andreus let him help. He was like that with his friends. Overprotective big brother type. It didn't matter if he was older, he would do his best to help them whenever they needed it.

Andreus was all too happy to let the subject of Kamino drop--it was relevant only to explain the validity of Sorran's repeated-beatdown teaching methods as he saw them. If he hadn't been prepared for a little pain, he would not have made it back from Wild Space, of that he was certain. It was personal information, but without it, Andreus would scarcely have been able to explain why he preferred full-force training methods at all.

Perhaps Hal seemed reluctant to employ them because he simply didn't know how? Andreus had seen these kinds of 'full-force' training methods in flight simulators all the time. Throw a double-engine failure at the trainee. Repulsorlift failure in a typhoon. Reactor fuel starvation. Everything that could go wrong and was sufficiently foreseeable to program, going wrong. It was designed so new trainee pilots would fail, and even experienced pilots would fail sometimes. But then, they'd be taught what they did wrong. Andreus saw the primary difference between that kind of training and learning how to fight as the requirement of having a higher pain tolerance for the latter.

"Of course I won't learn anything from being broken, if I am not taught what I did wrong," Andreus explained. "I think I told you I am a pilot. When they train us, they put us in a flight simulator and put us through just about every emergency that has ever been recorded in the history of flight. Once you're in that simulator, they don't hold back. You really want to experience flying a seven-hundred-ton brick with dual engine and repulsorlift failure through a typhoon? I'll tell you this, you take experienced pilots and put them through that, at least half will fail."

"But then they are shown where they went wrong."

"Now, you say you'll break me over and over again if we train this way. Fine, just crush me. I'll live--maybe." Andreus cracked a smile at that. "But then after I recover my faculties, tell me what I should've done differently--and we can start with the 'fight,' if you want to call it that, that we just had. I tell you this, Sorran kicked my ass, but if he hadn't, your opening kick would've sent me staggering backwards into the nearest wall. Yes, he broke me, but I learned something from it, and any delusions I had about stopping because it was pointless were excised on my trip from hell--er, I mean Kamino. If I didn't mean it, would I really be asking you to beat me into paste again and again and again?"

Hal shook his head at Andreus' response. He wouldn't do this, not even to make up for what he did to Andreus. It wasn't in him to do that to another person. He looked at his friend and answered in a serious tone.

"I'm sorry Andreus. I won't do that. I'll train you my way or not at all.", Hal finished staring down his friend waiting for his answer.

Wow. Hal must have really felt bad. Or he must really not have wanted to clean up Andreus' splattered blood all the time. Either way, he proved stubborn, an immovable object. Andreus wouldn't be able to convince him of the validity of harsher training methods anytime soon.

"Oh, alright, you big softie," Andreus finally relented. "Just promise to give me an actual fight every now and then. You know, so I don't get too complacent and all."
