On a water world, fishing is everything. Omar’s was born in the waters of Glee Anselum in the middle of the warm season. The water, at the time, was ripe with fish and life. She knew little else than the glories of marine life. Her father was a member of the fishing guild there within their local body of water, while her mother worked to sell some of the extra products domestically. Born to the trade, some would say. Umara’s early years were marked by stability and peace. The world for the Nautolan people we often this way. War seems so far away when your under water. She had lived in this isolation for years, knowing only the water as her body slowly developed to also operate on land. When she turned 5 years old, her father took her out into deeper waters to participate in her first fishing exposition.

It was here that she learned to love the trade of her parents and the thrill of hunting big game fish. The more dangerous the expedition, the more exciting it was. She loved the simple life. This life of fishing eventually led her her learning her basic skills, such as math, and brought her into meeting he Mon calamari people. She learned their language in trading with them and was proud that on her 9th birthday her father allowed her to accompany him on a trading run to one of the core worlds. This was a first for Umara, as she had never been on dry land up to this point. She had never needed to venture beyond the shore, even though she had developed walking legs.

Her first time on land was terrifying. As she made her way out of the primordial ocean and into the dry surface, her body struggled for a while, adjusting to the transition. She was madly uncomfortable like this. Her father was taking a voyage to the inner rimmed planet of Aldaraan to represent the fishing guilds United efforts to capitalize on the pescatarian market. When she arrived at the “civilized” planet, she felt certainly underdressed. Her chest and Lower section had always been covered by some means of clothing but otherwise the culture of the Nautolan people was not very strict on appearances. It was in this instance that her father taught her a very important lesson.

“Dress the way people want to see themselves dressed” her father had expressed as a strategy to gain the trust of anyone in a political sense. This was a time when things were still bleak and the Imperial Republica still weighed heavy over many systems. It was here, on Alderaan that Umara would witness some of the cruelties of the civilized worlds. They did not appreciate no humans and used species like the Twi’lek as entertainers. It was a gross thought to the young child. She stayed close to her father as he successfully negotiated a trade agreement for the fish from their planet and other water worlds like Mon Cala.

She would take a liking to going on such journeys. When they returned, Umara began to develop a feeling, as if the astral universe was reaching out to her. She could sense things that made no sense to her. When she went fishing, she could sense the scaled creatures before seeing them. Eventually she was able to do strange miracles like levitate small fish and objects. Her parents determined, before she even knew herself, that she was force sensitive. The thought of keeping their child safe from the imperial threat became a serious concern. Her parents made the judgement, for the safety of their child, to take Umara to Jedha to be trained as a Jedi at the age of 13. Being accepted as a hopeful at that age, Umara said goodbye to her parents, hoping that she might make them proud as a true warrior of balance.

Current Timeline:

She trained as was accepted as a padawan at the age of 16, proving herself to be force sensitive enough to be trained as a Jedi. She spent years studying in the Jedi libraries, trying to become a worthy Jedi. Now the age of 25, she looks to expand this proficiency. This comes at a dark hour, when Mandalore has declared war on the Jedi Order. She is hoping that she might prove herself in these dark times as someone valuable enough to be taken seriously as a future Jedi Knight.

Growing up on Glee Anselum has made Umara a peace loving squid head. She hated the idea of killing and fighting. There were times when defending ones self was unavoidable; however, Umara prefers diplomacy over domination. She believes that all living beings, even Sith, have a purpose. She feels that it is her duty to help those who struggle to find inner peace. She holds the galaxy to a level of idealism that realistically is unobtainable. She has never experienced the hardships of hunger, war, or slavery like many of her fellow alien races. She often tries her best to relate to the people she works to protect as a Jedi, but often fails at understanding their position.

She is kind hearted and always tries her best to do what she thinks is right, even if it might not be the best option available. She is young and thus often falls victim to the follies of naïveté and inexperience. She often compares things to marine life and fishing, even though most people in the galaxy probably know or care little to nothing about fish themselves. Umara is more patient than most, having learned the skill from lure fishing. One has to be patient and know the right time to strike to land the fish. This also proves, at time to be a hinderance. She is reluctant to commit to actions at times because she is so caught up in waiting, and thus she may fail to act all together at times. She will hopefully learn the skill of timing during her training to compensate for this deficiency.

The great thing about Nautolan culture is their sense of humor. Umara loves to laugh and hear jokes. She is a terrible joke teller, but will crack up at unfunny quips sometimes. She is doing her best to become witty and clever, but is only just becoming a young adult in Nautolan culture. She is easy going and slow to anger. She is cool like the water of her homeworld. She chooses often to spend her timing relaxing, swimming, and training. She often idealizes the Jedi knights and masters that prove themselves to be true progenitors of their order. She desires to one day stand among the ranks of the Jedi and prove herself worthy of her connection to the ethereal force.

She has only just discovered her disposition and is slowly learning about the force. She had read texts in the Jedi and desires to go out and learn more about their order and the force. It is a minor hobby of hers to search for Holocrons and artifacts that belong to the Order of old. She desires to help bring knowledge back to the order. She one day dreams of being a librarian in the Jedi archives working to maintain and preserve the precious annals of Jedi history, culture, and tradition.
