Ufc 171

Anyone gonna watch? Do we have any other UFC fans here?

It's not the best card ever, but it should be pretty well rounded. 170 was a bit of a stomp fest- it would be nice to see some of the fights this month go more than one round. All of the big fights the last few months seem to have gone that way- it's been kind of disappointing.

Nah I wouldn't say that. What I was surprised though was that Diego and Condit lost though... I expected them both to come out on top.

Picked Hendricks btw to take it.

I had Sanchez, Condit, and Hendricks. Good thing I'm not a gambling man.


All really, really good fights for the most part though.

Shields/Lombard was boring. Hector clearly won by a mile, but he didn't win any fans I don't think.

Sanchez/Jury was an awesome fight. Close, but I definitely think there's no contest to the winner- Diego knew it before he even got off the mat. Diego's good, but he's too aggressive and telegraphs his best stuff like a schoolyard bully. Smart fighters like Jury see him coming a mile away, and that's why Diego's will always be a top contender and never a champion, IMHO. You can't knock his sportsmanship though. Good show.

I think Condit would have beaten the crap out of Woodley given all three rounds. I was really sad to see him go out like that, and it especially upsets me that Woodley tried to claim credit for the injury like it was a submission or a cut up eye. That wasn't even the leg you kicked dude, you can't tell me your game plan was to go into the ring and blow out your opponents ACL.

Hendricks/Lawler was EPIC. I haven't seen a fight that edge-of-your-seat in recent memory. Those guys were blow for blow for almost half a freaking hour. It was almost too close to call, but Hendricks cinched that last round and showed that Lawler was too gassed to do anything but sit against the cage and just try to catch his breath while Hendricks had his way with him. That was a good cut he gave to Johnny's eye, but clearly it wasn't good enough to stop or even slow him all that much. The only time Hendricks ever really looked in imminent danger was when he took that uppercut that sent him wobbling for a good minute. I could not have asked for a better fight out of these two.

As an aside, the reason I wanted Hendricks to win over Lawler is that I don't think Lawler could hold the belt if he got it. Hendricks can and will.

Agree all around. Sad Condit lost, but he'll be back.

Also after 171 who do you think will get to fight Hendricks? Woodley, Lombard? lol

Too bad about Condit, was hoping he would get the finish but stuff like that happens.

I was rooting for Lawler though, I remember when he lost to Babalu, him coming back and winning the UFC title would have been great.

Edit: And I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Nick Diaz came back and got a title shot.

GSP isn't far off the radar either.

Don't get me wrong, I think Lawler's a beast. Both him and Hendricks are, just saying that 1 minute before the PPV started I said that if I had to pick I would pick Hendricks. In my mind I gave him a bit of an edge...

I remember when Lawler beat Manhoef over in Strikeforce, bro that line that Rogan says in the 171 preview 'he swings to kill you', is apt. That's really what he does...
