DESCRIPTION
At the opening of the hundred years darkness the galaxy found itself in a war that no one was prepared for, leaving a large disparity in the equipment available. The preexisting "Slug" design from Kuat Drive Yards was focused on heavy, short range firepower and bore the armor to match. During the war Many more armored vehicles came to the fore, including the nimble "Wompa" IFV, but they always tended to stick to either very heavy or very light in design. As the war dragged on and credits and resources became scarcer, Ubrikkian engineers focused on finding a more economical "jack of all trades" design. They Started with the chassis, selecting a lower tech treaded design to save on cost and complexity but still providing enough power and room to affix their payload. Next came the armament, which was a trick of its own as designers of the time were split between heavy cannon for the anti-armor role and lighter guns to focus on infantry support. What was born was a compromise of the two philosophies, mounting four laser cannon similar to those used in defensive positions and fire-linking them the weapon could unleash all of its fire power in a single blast or fire each barrel individually. Noticing it's slow turret rotation speed it was noted that the main gun possibly could not accurately track much faster moving vehicles, and to solve this problem the designers added external mounting options for missile pods.
Add in an air tight crew compartment for hostile environments and biological weapon defense and enough armor to shrug off most infantry carried weapons and the UC-130 was born.
Having seen service through the later half of the war the UC-130 is known to be a reliable and rather resilient tank, but some flaws were noted. Its turret speed and targeting acquisition sensors were still fairly slow, meaning it could not easily target nearby or fast moving objects like speeders and especially not infantry. Likewise its armament could not depress enough to be effective against any target in close proximity. Its four independent treads were left exposed to fire, meaning they could be targeted and taken out more rapidly. And while they were independent, losing a tread didn't so much as stop the Rancor so much as hobble it, opening it up to more fire. And lastly the price tag was a little higher than Ubrikkian had originally hoped, meaning sales of the UC-130 never matched that of some of the cheaper options on the market.
LEGALITY
Heavily restricted to licensed governments and military organisations. Personal ownership of such a vehicle is deemed as illegal in almost any system. Disarmed and without sensors the chassis can be seen in use by industrial organisations galaxy wide.INTENT
With only the Slug and Wompa currently available I wanted to add a more middle of the road combat vehicle to the mix. the Rancor will serve in a medium role, possessing more speed than the Slug and more firepower than the Wompa. Both of the existing models are focused on infantry support and bombardment, with minor options of anti-vehicle armament, wheres the Rancor would excel in an anti-armor/bunker role but suffer at infantry support.ADVANCED TECH
YES. Learning from Decades of warfare and technological advances the UC-130 is a fairly modern and up to date tank. It is only available for sale to licensed government and military organizations, and even the most affluent of those tend not to keep too many UC-130s on hand due to their price tag. Several rebel and fringe groups have begun picking over old battlefields and creative mechanics have begun piecing together the old warhorses using off the shelf parts from Ubrikkian's similar tractor design.
