BIOGRAPHY

U9-I3 was produced on M4-78 as all the other droids of the U9 Series. A mistake in his programming resulted in it being deactivated and improper disposal into the dead abyss of space where it ended up floating as just another piece of debris - until the droid was eventually picked up by a small scavenger freighter. It did not take long for the droid to be sold off to a somewhat rich member of the Coruscant underworld, where U9-I3 was used and misused as a service droid for a couple of years.

His service ended when a Coruscanti gang extorted its owner, and essentially stole the droid for their own personal use. There the droid was modified and reprogrammed to serve as a bodyguard, and unarmed combatant, in their underground fighting ring. He was to fight people in cages for the sake of the gang's betting and entertainment scheme. This lasted for a couple of months until the gang found themselves raided by Coruscanti Law Enforcement, which were about to claim U9-I3, as one of the freed slaves, another boxer of Togorian origin, claimed that the droid belonged to him, and removed his restraining bolt. However, the Togorian boxer was arrested not long after for illegally carrying an Electroripper staff, and the droid was taken into custody along its owner.

Personality

U9-I3's personality doesn't differ much from the baseline personality that has been programmed into most U9-XX droids, as it seems very rational and incapable of catching jokes. This has earned him the ironic nickname of 'Happy' by his new Togorian owner. However, faulty programming during production seems to have made him acknowledge various machinery as droids, and fruitlessly attempts to communicate with them until he is informed otherwise from a third party.
