DESCRIPTION​

The Type 940 space terminal is a class of orbital platform manufactured by Pan-Galactic Power Products, a monolithic corporations which produces everything from kitchen implements to - yes - space stations. One of the company's more popular offerings in the space infrastructure market, the Type 940 is designed to function as an orbital passenger and cargo terminal for planets with heavy space traffic. The type is meant primarily to serve large passenger liners and bulk freighters, although accommodations for smaller craft are also available.

The Type 940 is relatively large, 640 meters in diameter, with a crew of 1,000 personnel and accommodation for up to 9,600 passengers, the capacity of 8 fully loaded TVT Passengestic-class starliners. The platform has 8 large docking bays ringing the saucer-shaped upper section, intended for commercial liners, plus a lower section with several smaller hangars for privately owned craft such as shuttles and starhoppers. The station is equipped with numerous amenities for passengers on layover, including duty-free shopping, entertainment and dining areas, a hotel complex and even a well-appointed medcenter. For more unruly travelers, there is also a small detention area managed by the local authorities.

Type 940 space terminals are a fixture of travel throughout much of the Galaxy, and are often derided for being crowded and monotonous. They are, however, the gateway to many planets.
