A Message for the Republic commanders will be received shortly (in the next Republic post, no less!) that will read something like this;

For the eyes of Admiral Caydern.

Despite heavy losses incurred over Metellos, an Alsakan fleet will be arriving at Coruscant. There will be roughly sixty ships, all in working order. Further reinforcements are en route. Forty-five ships led by Captain Wolff should arrive to assist you shortly.

Signed, Captain Olivier de Ridefort.

I thought my fleet had been destroying the hyperspace beacons to prevent immediate pursuit. I suppose you could go around and come from around Anaxes but that would take a while and the battle over Coruscant would be done by that point unless it were to drag out for way too long.

Actually, your destroy the beacons as you go trick wouldn't work at all. Once you exit, and destroy the beacon, how do you get back into hyperspace?

Besides, Sheo won't be using any of the in between. He is going from Metellos, to Coruscant, two beacons you haven't touched.

At that point, you would have all the information to progress on to the next beacon so you can go into hyperspace. Then dry, rinse, and repeat for all the other beacons. Also, if there are several beacons, then why would only two be necessary? Plus, we could destroy the Coruscant beacon once we get there.

We contol Metellos, the databases that feed the beacons would be on world. And odds are, if you left the system, you couldn't have destroyed it without leaving at least one ship behind. And if you are dropping out of hyperspace at every point on the way to Coruscant to destroy the beacons, not only will you not be able to destroy them without leaving at least one ship behind, but our ships will arrive before yours as we're not stopping.

Metellos may have data bases but they don't extend the entire way to Coruscant. Otherwise, beacons would be a useless piece of equipment. Also, once a beacon is destroyed, wouldn't that completely stop you as you would have no more information to get to the next beacon and then on to Coruscant?

Same logic applies to you stopping to destroy the beacons. If you destroyed the beacon wouldn't that stop you from leaving?

No, the beacons are there to provide INSTANT info to exiting ships. If it needed to be transmitted from the planet it would take longer and the data would be out of range. But considering they are in Republic hands, if their efforts are dedicated to plotting one route they could do it without too much trouble, compensating for the extra time taken.

You can take one beacon from Metellos to Coruscant. You don't need to drop out every five minutes and get new updates, otherwise that short journey would take days. And if you are dropping out of hyperspace to destroy a beacon, how the hell are you getting back into hyperspace?!

Flawed logic is flawed. Plus, the Republic would have a really good idea of where Coruscant is, as it is coordinates (0,0,0).

Yays! Furthermore, Sheo and I demand a promotion/extra shiny medal for our heroic defense of Metellos against superior numbers.

Tough. You do not make demands. :CStern:

And anyway, I'm sure you'll be happy with the champagne reception. :CHappy:

Umm... once Sheo arrived, you were no longer outnumbered. Then, you outnumbered Raider and had ridiculously powerful guns.

Yes, but those are details that can be left out.

An Alsakan fleet attack Metellos, it outnumbered the defenders heavily, but through cunning tactics and the excellent use of the battlefield, the stoic and hardy Captain de Ridefort managed to hold the much larger fleet off, long enough for the daring and dashing Captain Wolff to arrive and help rout the Alsakans.

All true, except in this version, we are the underdogs, valiant defenders, who struggled to the bitter end, and won a heroic victory. It's just using different words, but a whole different picture emerges. This is the picture that the people of the Republic will see, most likely, whilst the Alsakans will see the one where we outnumbered them, and used massive guns etc.

It's just smart reporting and a better use of media.

It's called political spin, Cailst. It's how propaganda works.

Until we hack into your holonet reporting and then spread the truth around the galaxy. :CStern:
