Expansion Region - Cularin System - Almas - 1224 hours

As a terraformed planet, Almas was surely an interesting astronomical object on itself. What was even more interesting though was the history of not only the planet, but especially the tall fortress that had survived wars and still stood proudly in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but a barren desert that separated the dark focal point from the rest of the terraformed land.

Darth Rivan, who had also founded the Almas Academy, had once created the admittedly impressive plant called Kaluthin which swallowed the majority of the planet's surface. Bending the plant to his will and altering the bio-chemical processes within, he had not only used to plant to build, but even to alter the atmosphere, so that it was breathable nowadays.

Drawing nourishments from the deep water recourses underneath the soil and even having to tap the planet's core for warmth, it was surely only a matter of time until the planet would simply die some day, but it would surely survive countless more centuries as, according to scientists, the growing process was at least slow.

As they weren't here for botanical studies though, Kalique treated the information she had gained through research as interesting side facts and put her main focus on the various rumors regarding the fortress though. The other two Knight-Captains and her had been deployed for a far more important task as the ISB was more than interested in the secrets the ancient fortress still possessed.

Despite the potentially valuable nature of the fortress and the knowledge that was possible hidden inside, it seemed like so far the Sith hadn't shown much interest in the abandoned fortress, which was even more reason for the three Captains to be sent to the impressive, sinister landmark. Even upon their arrival they'd already sense how the darkness had never left the focal point created by the former Lord of the Sith.

What information had sickered through over the last millennium was that Rivan had not only spiked the place with countless traps, but had ensured that reaching the inner sanctum was almost impossibly difficult. Obviously, the mission was dangerous beyond belief and definitely Kalique's toughest task yet, but the Knight-Captain was confident that the three of them would somehow find a way to retrieve and potentially destroy whatever lingered inside.

After her promotion, she had learnt how there was another newly promoted Knight-Captain, Wiley Winnz to be more specific, that would be also part of the group. Secondly, the experienced Knight-Captain Varyn Atrix would complete the trio, and while she had heard plenty about him before, she hadn't had the pleasure to meet either of them just yet.

After her pervious experience with other Knights, she sometimes found it a little hard to place her trust in her own kind, but she tried her best to suppress any prejudices. The rendezvous point of the trio would be in the orbit right above their destination where an Imperial transport was waiting to bring the three of them down. Kalique was the first to arrive and she used the remaining time to double-check her equipment while she waited for the other two to join her. She was adorned in her armor, but the helmet was still placed on a table next to her, waiting to be picked up upon their arrival.

It seemed that if you needed a small group to clear out an old Sith fortress, the people you wanted to call were the Knight-Captains of the Imperial Knights. It was flattering in its own way to be given respect after the period of suspicion that he had been under in both the Sith and the Imperial Knights. Plenty of people had their reservations about him, but they were finally getting past it, he guessed.

Varyn emerged from one of the rooms of the shuttle that would take them to the surface, having spent much of his trip here in both study and meditation. With his leaving the Sith and Jedi both, he had found meditation to be an odd thing, and he at times struggled to find the new path he needed to walk. The Light had been for many years his foundation, but in his time with the Sith, he had strayed far from that path. He had taken a dip into hatred and rage, and even now, it lingered with him.

He moved over to look out the viewport, light armor and twin lightsabers already hanging from his belt as he greeted the other two Imperials. Though they had exchanged names during the flight, they hadn't spent much time talking, but he was glad for the opportunity to get to know some of his fellow colleagues.

All set, he declared as the ship started to touch down. The sun was already low in the sky so they would avoid the heat of the day but still have some light before darkness fully fell.

Don't suppose anyone's ever been here before. No doors, windows, entrances... sounds like a real nice place to visit, he said. Finding a way in was just the first of many tasks they'd have to overcome, but he was sure they would manage.

There was a reason the Almas Sith Fortress had beeen ignored up until now. It was dangerous to say the least. But was an imovable and impregnable fortress. The Knight-Captain was not even sure they would breach its walls. Maybe we won't even get that far. He thought to himself.

Wiley used to think he did not care which side of the Force he wielded. But since taking the oath and becoming a Knight he had been given a new perspective. Seeing others struggle and overcome inspired him to do the same for his own peers. It was one of the reason he had perhaps been promoted. The ex-Jazaq did not wish to relapse into the Dark Side but he was no friend of the light. With that being said, he felt a bad feeling about what awaited the three of them.

"Nope." Wiley's voice came from the cockpit to answer his comrade's question. The Upsilon III command shuttle had excellent scanning capabilities which Wiley set to focus on the Fortress as they drew closer. Everything the Knight-Captain saw from behind his helmet's visor matched what the briefing told him and chances were the Fortress itself would be the same when they got closer. "Do you know how to cut through anti-lightsaber walls, walk through them or teleport?" He asked Varyn. "Maybe we should call up some nightsisters to help us out." He said half jokingly. The man honestly did not remember how the Din Empire felt about the night sisters or if it had even changed from his time in the Sith. He had not crossed sabers with them yet and he was okay with it remaining that way.

"Scanners aren't picking up anything." He mentioned mostly to himself. Another aspect of the ship was its defensive capabilities. But even that might not be enough to stop a hyper-lightning bolt this structure was supposed to be capable of.

As they started their official descent, Kalique put on her helmet, not wanting to take any chances with the atmosphere or other unpleasant first traps aimed at unprotected heads. She strapped herself back into the seat and ran some last checks on her equipment as the other Captains started discussing how to even get inside in the first place, but in contrast to her companions, Kalique wasn't as pessimistic about their chances.

Throwing Wiley a short glance by turning her head (an eyebrow quirked, but her features were already hidden by the visor of the helmet), noticing that he wasn't fully joking. Ask nightsisters and teleport right into the death trap? Maybe not the best approach and also, she didn't have a pool of nightsister in her NalPhone contacts to just shoot a message to. "I understand your concerns, but there needs to be a way for a Force user to enter" she shared her own thoughts, her now modulated voice ringing through the helmet.

While it would definitely take someone strong and capable, they were three Knight-Captains and experienced Force users, so maybe their chances weren't bad. "Upon touchdown, we should definitely take a closer look around those very welcoming premises. If there's an entry we can use, it will definitely be well concealed and hidden". Maybe she wasn't too worried about how to enter, but what would happen if they'd found themselves inside the potential death trap...but they were right. First things first.

The ship approached the abandoned fortress without any troubles, but they'd all feel how this long lost place was drenched in an impenetrable, powerful darkness that would not only linger everywhere they went, but pose a constant challenge to their mental defenses as it would surely be tempting to just indulge.

Penetrating the grey, thick cloud layer caused the ship to rock, yet they'd safely reach the ground a safe distance away from their target. However, they'd all notice how the weirdly shaped fortress loomed ahead rather menacingly, with a weird tension surrounding it that was already palpable from their landing point. "Alright gentlemen. Let's go figure this out".

Kalique unbuckled herself and gathered the rest of her belongings before she'd approach the ramp. Apart from this sinister tension, it was as if actual electricity lingered in the air, seemingly waiting to released some time. Was a thunderstorm approaching? It was hard to tell whether it was the planet's general atmosphere or the fortress that was causing it, yet they'd most definitely not feel welcome on those lands at all.

Varyn let out a throaty groan at the mention of Nightsisters. Although he'd never met one in person, he still remembered his unpleasant brush with spooky arcane spirits on Ziost and Vex's love for the crap.

Hard pass on the spooky people, he said. In Sith company it might have been something rude, but considering the prohibitions on Sith sorcery and the deeper arts of the Dark Side, he didn't have to worry about it with this group.

As they touched down, Varyn forewent a helmet, and it only amplified his ability to sense the sensation of pent up energy in the world around them. He didn't know what it was, but it made the hair on the back of his neck stand up and he found himself constantly casting glances over his shoulder to see if someone was sneaking up on them in the desert beyond. This place had a foul sense of wrongness that he hadn't experienced in several years. Since he was back on Ziost in those mystic caves. Not fond memories.

They weren't really any closer to finding the entrance, but Varyn moved over toward the building anyway. He let his mind sink into the Force, reaching out to try to sense what was inside only to feel... absolutely nothing. The Force was everywhere and in everything, connecting even the inanimate objects of stone and sand, but beyond the walls, he couldn't feel a thing. It was jarring... a sensation he had never felt before.

Uh... do either of you sense anything inside? he asked. It was as if everything within was a void in the Force. It was something he had never experienced before and it unnerved him more than he wanted to admit.

He heard what Kalique was saying but held his tongue when it came to the obvious response. That does not mean we meet the requirements for entrance. It was why he had mentioned the Nightsisters. Teleporting was their specialty from what he had heard. Then there was a Jedi he had heard of that could step through walls and phase through floors. Wiley wished he had expanded more on the study of light side techniques around the first battle of Denon but he had been stationed near Ajan Kloss for an extended period.

To Wiley, it felt like just centimeters beneath the ground, under every step was a mountain of bones. Death permeated this place more permanently even than the sun that warmed its surface. Darkness would only build the nexus of shadow that emanated from the root of the fortress.

The Imperial Knight-Captain ran a finger along the seal of his helmet to verify it was good. He did not want to take anything to chance. The Ossein stopped at the edge of the ship's debarkation ramp and looked at the surrounding. His eyes scanned the landscape but it was his sixth sense in the Force that he was mainly using. But nothing stood out. It was like staring into a fog at best, and pulled by a corrupting magnet at worst.

Following his comrades, Wiley continued to look around. Even the stars overhead seemed dimmer than they had in orbit. When AVaryn spoke up he looked back towards the Fortress they were approaching. "Nothing good." He replied simply. There was nothing specific he could pick out inside or around them. He was doing his best to not open himself up too far and instead on keeping to his teachings. I am Imperial Knight...Captain Wiley Winnz. We are here for the Empire. This place will give us its secrets. He gulped and clenched his fists. The sun was getting lower and the outside was getting cooler, yet the man's brow was beginning to sweat.

After setting the first foot on the ground, Kalique felt this sinister, yet mysterious presence growing. The soil was drenched with it, but what was worse was the tension that lingered in the air. She exhaled deeply, summoning all focus she could muster, staying ready to pounce for whatever would come their way.

The dry ground slightly crunched beneath their steps as little rocks were set into motion, however apart from the impressive building ahead, there was nothing but the barren desolate land and dark looming clouds on the horizon in the distance.

As Varyn asked what they were sensing, there was not much more she could add. "Nothing...yeah. That's weird", she stated calmly, her mind, however, racing. The Force was always around, connecting everything that existed and yet it was as the pyramidic building was an even greater mystery than first expected.

"Maybe the walls are shielding whatever lingers inside...I've never felt something that...empty". She couldn't even find words to describe the unnerving sensation of nothingness. While there was darkness around everywhere on this planet, this here seemed different. They walked for a while before they were reaching a point where Kalique was pretty sure that first defensive mechanism could be triggered if they weren't careful.

Again, she focused on reaching out with the Force and covering the distance between them and the former fortress, but even in terms of traps she could pick up nothing. They had to carry on, but it simply didn't feel right. She fought that inner urge to stop, facing the fortress behind her visor, but all of a sudden it was as if she was meeting some kind of resistance that didn't allow her to step any further.

"What the-" she remarked in confusion as she tried another step, but she simply wasn't covering any ground while right in front of her there was some kind of invisible, not even palpable barrier. She reached forward with her left hand, but again, felt nothing. Her hands wasn't even hitting anything, but attempting another step simply resulted in her leg being pushed to its original position. "This seems like the first puzzle we'll have to solve" she finally stared with a scoff, not letting the frustration get to her.
