Some of you guys might know that the staff is currently looking to revamp some of the RP rules (each of you will be receiving PMs about that shortly, actually) for the site. In doing so, there’s something else I’d like to revamp: our training and promotion processes. I’ll speak about each one individually:
1) I’d like the Jedi and Dark Jedi faction leadership (as they’re the two factions with training) to come up with a set of training guidelines so masters know how to guide their students in the RP. These would IMO have to include going on at least two (2) missions together, one (1) solo mission for the student, and guidelines on what the students are taught. The masters can choose how it’s taught and what type of missions to go on, but they need to know what they have to be taught. It should be stressed that this is all about character development and RP interaction. For that reason, encourage masters and students to go on training missions or hold other RP threads with other masters and students.

2) Additionally, I’d like all four factions to have guidelines for how people can advance in rank. That way, people can have something concrete to work towards. The guidelines for each faction should be specific for each faction (yes, this was based on Sheo’s Crusader to Dark Master guidelines). These guidelines should include going on successful missions (you don’t rank up for failures), among other things. Participating in battles when they arise should also be encouraged.
Any questions, comments, concerns, etc?

When you guys do this, it’d be a good idea if you post them in here before you post them in your faction boards. That way we can work out any kinks if there are any.

I like this. It seems pretty straight foreward.

A jedi will advance rank for the completion of the following:
  • The completion of 2 or more missions with their master.
  • The completion of 1 solo mission.
  • Understanding the Jedi code.
  • Proficiency in lightsaber combat.
  • Proficiency and understanding in the force.

Anything else?

I assume you mean that's your proposal for training guidelines? It wouldn't make sense for general promotion guidelines (like Knight to Master).

I'd also throw in a Jedi history lesson. It'll force people to read the history, particularly the history we have here that includes the third timeline and the events in between.

It was a general outline, something to make sure my understanding was in line with yours.

So an addition of a history lesson.

For masters it'll probably be similar, but at higher and more difficult requirements. A master will probably be expected to complete many more missions and show they are very skilled.

This may mean there will have to be more closely watched powers and abilities. The addition of a skill may need to be submitted for approval by a faction leader, something I don't mind doing myself.

I actually have some guide rules though I like what's been said here as well. I have a 10 page limit that all threads have to be at least ten pages without special permission by me or nexus due to the fact most of the threads I started noticing a trend of them being like 4-5 pages which is rather small imo. I also have a promotion guidelines section as well.

Did you make it clear that it's 10 pages on the default view (ie, 20 posts per page)? Without making that clear, 10 pages could mean the difference between 200 posts per thread or 400 posts per thread.

This thread is dedicated to information relating to the advancement of rank in the Jedi order. If your padawan is worthy of attaining the rank of Knight they must now do more than a simple training thread.

Padawans will now be required to:
  • The completion of 1 or more missions with their master(successful).
  • The completion of 1 solo mission(successful).
  • Understanding the Jedi code.
  • Proficiency in lightsaber combat.
  • Proficiency and understanding in the force.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the Jedi orders history.

in order to attain the rank of knight. This will probably require a thread of at least 200 posts for training along with two threads of missions. That is the minimum.

Knights should follow these guidelines to become Master:
  • Completion of 3 or more missions with other Jedi.
  • Completion of 2 missions in which you orchestrated.
  • A high level of understanding of the ways of the Jedi.
  • Proficiency in lightsaber combat.
  • A high understanding of the force.

I would make the training require 2 missions with the master plus 1 solo mission. Also, if Knights want to become a Master in canon then they typically need to have trained a Padawan, so I'd add that in. That'll get people active in training threads. You could even throw in a rule that says you need to train two Padawans for our purposes here.

One final thing that I'd add in, just so everyone is clear, is that High Council appointments are at the discretion of the faction leader.

EDIT: Oh and I don't think that the missions would have to be successful for the training. Failed missions can be teachable moments too.

They can be, but a Jedi who is never successful isn't prepared for a leadership role. A failed mission is ok, but I'd like at least two successful missions.

Alright. Just be aware that it could piss people off, because there's no telling how long a training process could be extended if they had to keep going on missions just to meet a magic successful number.

True, I'll limit to one success...

The success could always be their solo mission. That could be like their trials or something. Missions with masters wouldn't have to be a success because it can be a teachable moment.
