DESCRIPTION​

The Toscan is an starfighter standard developed by Shobquix Yards, and produced under license by a number of different manufacturers with various regional specializations. First designed prior to the Clone Wars, the Toscan was conceived as an "open frame" starfighter, a standardized platform which could be manufactured under license by different shipyards and adapted to the needs of the customer in terms of armament, systems and performance. Though not the industry-wide solution Shobquix had hoped for, the concept did prove compelling to a number of smaller regional shipbuilders, who licensed the design for their own use.

All Toscan-standard starfighters share at least 85% parts commonality with one-another, and have roughly the same layout and dimensions. The 8-Q, the most common configuration, is a standard multi-role design, and is crewed by a single pilot. Equipment includes a class 2 hyperdrive, a navicomputer, light deflector shields, an emergency ejection seat, an 8-shot concussion missile launcher and twin medium laser cannons. Notably, the ship has a standard dorsal docking ring with an extendable docking tube, allowing the Toscan to dock with most larger vessels without assistance. Top speed is a reasonable 90 MGLT.

Though popularly considered to be a mediocre, unrefined design, Toscan-standard starfighters are still reasonably competitive in the present day, especially against older opponents from the Galactic Civil War era. They are a staple of Outer Rim planetary militias and sector navies, and are also widely used by law enforcement agencies, mercenaries, bounty hunters, criminals and fringers.
