Visibly athletic, the brown-haired and bearded soldier’s features are clean and chiseled, his demeanor calm and stoic. What Toland lacks in flair and charisma he makes up for in loyalty and integrity, his blue eyes revealing his zeal for the Rebel cause and compassion for the downtrodden. He is well-spoken, his strong voice equally capable of soothing a frightened youngling as it is giving out commands and inspiring allies to battle.
Though not quite as intimidating as some, a quick evaluation of Toland’s broad, muscular frame would cause many an opponent to have second thoughts about crossing paths with him — and though not confrontational by nature, the soldier would have no qualms with stopping whoever means his fellow people harm.
Above all, Toland exemplifies the strength of the Galactic Alliance and the hope that one day they will prevail against the oppression of the Empire. -
Enlisting in the military as soon as he was of age, Toland excelled in every field as he strove to be a shining example of Imperial power. Completing his training with prestige, he was drafted into the regular forces immediately. For many years Toland enjoyed his work, his squad usually deployed to fend off pirates and settle minor disputes. Over time, these became more and more frequent — and though tensions with the Mandalorians and within the Empire itself were rising, the Imperial soldier ignored these signs, blinded by his belief that the Empire could do no wrong and assured that the troubles would soon die down.
One fateful day, Toland was sent with a detachment to the planet of Medriaas to ‘shut down some insurgents’, but their service was strangely only required if the plan went wrong. When they arrived above the planet, Toland was horrified to see the Imperial fleet orbitally bombarding the agri-world’s surface, ruthlessly ending millions of innocent lives. His detachment received a large payment to keep quiet about the incident, which only shook Vult’s faith even more. How could the Empire he respected so much commit such a senseless atrocity and feel no remorse? Shortly after, Toland was posted to Onderon to bolster its defences against a fast-growing insurgency, but the soldier had made up his mind.
During a particularly aggressive rebel attack, Toland got separated from his squad and never returned, marked MIA. Defection is the height of treachery, but in the face of such corruption, it was the far lesser of two evils. -
Tending to be more reserved, Toland is not known to be extravagant in his speech, instead saying merely what needs to be said. Deception and guile are practically foreign to him, and as such he is a very poor liar. Toland is direct and blunt, but if he knows that what needs to be said will hurt another needlessly then he would rather say nothing at all.
Toland is a very hard worker, and as such never really gives himself a break and has the tendency to overexert himself. Though he would never admit it and may not even realize it himself, he believes that it is his duty to ensure the safety of his allies.
Toland is a patient man, not prone to outbursts of anger. However, he would become increasingly irritated if ever forced to remain helpless or idle while knowing he could be doing something to assist his allies. In addition, Vult cares strongly for the innocent and his companions, and will react with righteous fury if any of them are threatened.
Disillusioned from his previous reverence of the Empire, Toland now understands the choke hold it has on the citizens of the Galaxy and strives to set them free of its control. Already distrustful of the Sith during his service to the Empire, Toland now sees them as the ultimate threat to the Galaxy but is unsure of how to stop them. However, the fact that the Jedi actually exist has given him hope in spite of the odds against them — and hope is a powerful weapon.
