Some things never change. Tarnit still disliked early mornings. He still had animosity toward the jedi. He was still terrified of the Sith. He idealized the Republic and what it stood for. He still enjoyed a cold beverage. He still hated wearing armor. And at the end of the day, he was still a teacher. Just like what his primary role was among the Jedi.

Since joining the GAR, Tarnit was shocked by how few soldiers had experience against those who were force sensitive. This had always been a way of life for the ex-Jedi, sparring other force users, and apparently he had taken it for granted. The Sith, therefore, posed a very real threat to the Grand Army. Fighting another army was one thing - fighting an army with lightsabers and the dark side was an entirely different thing, especially if the Republic troops weren't ready for it. Bringing equipment that was designed for force sensitives was good, fighting a force sensitive and winning was important.

Therefore, Tarnit decided to hold a hands-on seminar of battling a force user. He had gathered a group of GAR soldiers to listen to some basic tactics to use against Sith, field questions, but also spar a couple soldiers for them to learn, and others to observe.

The courtyard they were meeting in was large - about 100 meters by 60 meters. There were large rocks scattered throughout, as well as craters to simulate a combat zone. Tarnit was waiting by the north side, and the group began to form.

Amongst them was Jeremiah Ark, Katelyn (@Queen ) and others.

Breath tickled the nose. A lengthy draw of air sucked into greedy lungs, released in a desperate attempt at composure. Gaze carried by passersby, flowing like rushing blood through city vein. The cacophony of banter wafting through damp air, friendship in perfect harmony. Envy pierced Katelyn; Heated molten liquid, coils of crimson gracing beige cheeks. A heart so vacant it ached. Yearned for the people who crafted her with their affection, nursed her emotions to maturity. Their vestiges were destroyed, shattered, shards concealed in the vast nebulas of her mind. So infinite, restoration was preposterous. A truth she rejected, no matter the countless medics whom supported the fate.

Head held high. Spine linear. Tugged upwards by synthetic confidence. Under slate sky, heavy with rain soon to fall, she entered. Weaved past nameless masses, and prayed she go without notice. It seemed simple. To cast herself into the public eye, going through motions as anybody else. Oblivious, she was, to how long she bore the fear. And how she learned to fake courage.

She danced through the crowd. Movements fluid, mimicking the action of others. Boots tugged forwards, right before left, hauling herself towards destination. It flowed perfectly, without hindrance or deviation from normal. Until, collision with the captain.

Kate stared. Choked down the fear that bit at her throat, suppressed impulse screaming at her to simply bolt, escape confrontation. But avoiding fright let it thrive. No, she disallowed that.

"I'm sorry, Captain Taddler. I wasn't paying attention."

Bold. Escaping with pleasing rhythm, respectful and polite. The Force, a friend whose name she knew not, surrounded her.

Unrecognized by her

Tarnit had prepared for this seminar well - trying to foresee possible questions, and for different tactics during a match. He did not, however, see a collision from a person before they even started as a possibility. He was taken a back, and could only laugh at the situation.

"Its no problem," He spoke through a laugh and turned to face the group. "Let's begin."

Tucking his arms behind his back, he began to pace back and forth slowly. "Our objective today is simple. Learn about fighting force users, particularly Sith. Every battle is hard - a battle with a evil force user who can deflect your own blaster shots at you and send lightening coursing through your veins is perhaps one of the most difficult confrontations we could face - and yet we are called to face it often."

Stopping he turned to the group, "Who here has fought a Sith before?"

About half the group raised their hands, some were more veterans than others. Amongst those who had was Jeremiah. Tarnit pointed to him, "Ark, what caught you off guard the most?"

The bashful commando looked around before answering, "I dunno, Captain. I guess I didn't expect them to dodge explosions, and cut speeders in half - heck, I didn't expect them to throw speeders around. I didn't know how to properly finish the job - if you catch my drift."

Tarnit nodded. "Yeah, Sith can be extremely slick. They, just like the rest of us, don't take fondly to dying. Before we go further, does anyone have any questions?"
