DESCRIPTION
The TIE/ad interceptor prototype — better known as the TIE Advanced x1 or simply the TIE Advanced — was a prototype model of the TIE series that would eventually evolve into the TIE/in interceptor and the TIE/sa bomber. Designed personally by Raith Seinar and the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader himself, the TIE Advanced saw almost no widespread use, but was made famous as the signature starfighters of both Vader himself and by the Galactic Empire's Imperial Inquisition.

The TIE Advanced was a revolutionary starfighter in its day, drawing elements from the Galactic Republic's V-wing starfighters and the Jedi Order's speedy and maneuverable Eta-2 Actis-class interceptors. Unlike those models, the Advanced came with its own hyperdrive and with shielding equipped, allowing it to work outside the range of Imperial Star Destroyers on long-range missions. However, the shielding systems on the Advanced were highly experimental: A stabilizing field was projected by a supermagnet at the rear of the ship. Deflector energies were deployed from forward and lateral pairs of projector bars. These experimental shield systems would sometimes require last minute tuning, usually done by an experienced and trained pilot.

TIE Advanced fighters were also fit with a pair of fix-mounted medium laser cannons and a cluster missile launcher. Because of their prototype nature, TIE Advanced fighters are popular with ship-modders for their easily-modifiable nature. The Sith Lord Darth Vader himself heavily modified his own Advanced so that it was faster and stronger than those used by his Inquisitors. However, those who would seek to modify a TIE Advanced should proceed with caution; its already experimental nature makes modifying it further even more dangerous to fly and almost always requires a highly-experienced pilot.

These days, over a century since TIE Advanced fighters were already a rare sight during the reign of the Galactic Empire, those models that weren't destroyed, scrapped, or repurposed after the Galactic Civil War have found their way into the collections of those seeking rare and expensive Imperial memorabilia. There are rumors that a few might be found on scrapyard worlds like Raxus Prime and Bracca, but they are highly sought after by Imperial enthusiasts and black market dealers. A few old Imperial families might also have a prized Advanced that they pass down in their families, but these are just rumors.
