The Venatori

"When a forest grows too wild, a purging fire is inevitable and natural."
Considered by their fellow Sith to be "radicals," the Venatori are a group devoted to the preservation of the galaxy through the Empire. They believe in the reform of the Empire from within, though their means are quite violent – akin to revolutionaries. Their goal is to ensure that the galaxy is protected by supporting and ensuring that the Empire shapes into an organization that not only governs but protects its citizens.

History

With the fall of the Jedi, there were no "guardians of peace and justice" that remained. The Dark Side corrupted many of the Sith within the Empire, and as this corruption became more pronounced, the Venatori were born. The first of the Venatori organized themselves in opposition to the violent outbursts they had witnessed by their fellow Sith against innocent civilians. They swiftly grew disenchanted by the corrupting nature of the Dark Side, but still believed in the potential for good in the Empire.

These first Sith joined together to oppose the brutality that had been sown by many other Sith. With Jedi no longer in existence, the group that formed was hardly one that fostered protection and peace. Their Sith roots left them still in close contact with the Dark Side, though they do not embrace it like other Sith. They began hunting down the most brutal of the other Sith, and as the Empire began to diverge into its different halves, it was of little difficulty for the Venatori to side against the older Sith.

Philosophy

The most accurate term to describe the Venatori would be a sect of Dark Jedi. Although they use the Dark Side, they do not embrace it in the way of most Sith. They have witnessed the destructive and dangerous nature of the Dark Side and view its frequent use as a threat to the Empire they believe in protecting.

While many Sith would consider pursuit of the Dark Side to be an end in and of itself, the Venatori view it as a tool for use in the most dire of situations; a necessary evil that must sometimes be exercised for the greater good. Because they have witnessed enough of their brethren fall to the Dark Side's sway and harm others merely for the sake of inflicting suffering, they discourage its use on a regular basis. There is an understanding among its members that those who indulge in the Darkness and lose their way may - and likely will - one day be hunted down by their brothers in arms. Such is the risk that all Venatori accept.

Nevertheless, this does not make them Lightsiders. Jedi and other Light Side-practicing sects are viewed with extreme distrust and high levels of suspicion. Due to a history of indoctrination and disinformation, the Venatori do not practice the Light themselves.

Functionality

The number of Venatori has varied widely throughout history. At times there were as many as several hundred members, but over time those numbers dwindled to now only a few dozen members at most remaining. Due to their lowered numbers, the Venatori function now more as a secret society than anything else, plotting how they may once more regain influence within the Empire. While they were once capable of having a broader reach in the Empire, now they do little more than the occasional assassination, hit-and-run attack, or conspiracy against the more brutal Sith in the Empire.

Intent

I had a big debate with myself about where I should submit this article. I intend to have my Sith be a member of this organization and will build it up throughout the timeline, but since it is currently not under my control in-character and has very little by way of assets and is not really a sub-faction yet, I decided to make a lore article to flesh out the history until such a time as it is ready to be something more. I'm also looking for others who would be interested in joining as the RP progresses. Please post here if interested!
