Preface:
Two best friends left for war. One went with the Army, the other with the Marines. Both were infantry. Both were shipped to Afghanistan around the same time. And while they never saw each other in person on that foreign land, they would sometimes get to access the internet at the same time and communicate with one another. This was a rare event since both were often in firefights and out on missions. Sometimes the bases they stayed at had phones and internet, sometimes they did not.

Online Conversation:

Soldier: "No hand pro? No knee pro? Man your all dicked up. haha"

Marine: "lost my glove in a fight and i dont like my knee pro. shits for bitches anyway."

*****: "what fight"

Marine: "well *****, there's these guys called the Taliban. rofl. they shoot at us, we kill them, they pick up the bodies and run away. if we try to follow they blow us up. took my glove off to handle a radio and got shot at so i dropped my glove and shot back while moving to cover.

*****: "aaaaaaaw i hoped you killed them..."

Soldier: "Shooting while moving, high-speed. I do like that cannon you call an m16. Army's getting new m4's. Heavier barrel and now fully automatic. They also switched all of our ammunition to AP. Good times, eh?"

Marine: "yeah. if my 16 wa able to go fully auto i'd definitely carry more ammo. i'm so used to my 203 i can't have a m16 or m4 without one. it's saved my life too many times."

Soldier: "I used to roll with about 12 mags, now I have a m48 I carry about 600rnds of 7.62."

Marine: "gah damn, thats a lot. **** that shit."

Soldier: "Yeah, tell my spine and shoulders that shit."

Marine: "our machine gun attachments spreadload their 7.62 ammo...i carried 300 rounds one time and as soon as we took contact i was like 'yo, shoot that shit!!!'"

The Soldier had been on the computer when his friend, The Marine, caught him online right before The Soldier was about to sign out. Usually The Marine was no where near a computer but luckily, "someone is doing something, somewhere and they needed us to stand post at their place...they have internet. should be here maybe two more days."

The friends talked about girls and future business plans. Then The Soldier heard someone yell "Incoming!". The Soldier left the internet and his friend, The Marine.

The Soldier's room had been hit with a 107 mm rocket.

But The Soldier was not in his room. He had been logged onto a government computer in a computer room when he had heard the warning, and then felt the tremors shake the building.

The Soldier returned to the internet where his friend, The Marine, had waited. The Soldier explained "they yelled incoming, and sop is to run back to your living quarters for accountability. " He found his room and most of his belongings destroyed.

The Soldier credits The Marine with saving his life.

This is just one of their many stories.
