The Run - Ord Mantell

forcemocha-ord-mantell3-1920x1200.jpg

Characters:
Ship: Grobu's Bounty
Captain: Verguxa
Crew: Renn Starfall and Mulako Tllkth
Passenger: Siah Toan
Cargo: Seven large durasteel crates (200kgs each).

Ord Mantell:
The HoloNet message was clear and concise:
“Traveller (single) and cargo (1.5 tons) seeking passage from Ord Mantell to Denon. Offering 50,000 credits.”

Ord Mantell is a bustling, dry and very grumpy planet. The inhabitants are all out for a quick buck, scheming and plotting their next score. The planet had seen its fair share of conflict, and the inhabitants value their ability to carry and use arms.

The oppressive and humid heat had finally been replaced by a gentler breeze. The evening was cooling down and the clouds had built up during the course of the afternoon. While a light wind was whipping up small clouds of dust, a silhouetted figure was watching the heavy clouds as they grew darker. He glanced casually back at the large crates nearby.

The lone Ithorian stood on a large landing pad overlooking a dusty spaceport. The unassuming figure wore a tunic and robe and carried a small leather satchel. He seemed to have no belongings of any real value.

He felt it was time to leave, the coming storm would arrive soon and they still had to load up the precious cargo. He had decided on landing pad JAX006, as this was a less used pad. They'd therefore be underway without having to wait for any other craft.

The others should be here soon...

The Wyvern flew into Ord Mantell's dusty atmosphere. Renn had gotten the message just the day before, and rushed to the planet to see what this was all about. He landed his ship on a nearby pad, not wanting to get in the way of the ship that would carry the cargo. Renn put on his gear and hopped out of the cockpit, taking a look around. He noticed the lone Ithorian standing near the cargo and made his way towards him.

"So is the Captian here yet or are we gonna have to wait? I told my wallet that it would have 25,000 new friends today." Renn took a quick look around, and then said. "I'm Renn by the way."

"You my crew?" a drunken voice called out to the duo. A tall Zabrak stumbled over, not trying to hide the fact he indulged in too much alcohol at the cantina. His tan, obviously less than pristine condition chestplate and helmet almost fit in to the dull clothing of the villagers around him. His red skin, however, stuck out from the mostly human villagers. His hand was on his blaster pistol on his belt, almost like he didn't trust the duo. "What are we doing again? I 'eard credits and signed up, it a cargo thing or something?".

Renn watched as the Zabrak moved closer to them, and noticed how he had a hand on his blaster. "You can trust me dude, we're all on the same team here. But yeah, there's credits, if we get off this rock. Is there anyone else coming or are we good to go?"

"Huh, sure" Verguxa replied taking his hand off the blaster pistol. "Maybe we should be leaving now, I may of pissed off a few thugs in the cantina" he said "don't want to get arrested again by the authorities 'ere"

"Wasn't there one more person? Whatever, I say we get outta here too. You're the captian of this ship right?" Renn was eager to get this job overwith.

Siah stopped his wandering thoughts and turned to face the two behind him. The one who had just arrived by ship, Renn, was a very confident individual. The intoxicated one was a Zabrak, he would certainly keep the attention on himself rather than the cargo. Siah smiled to himself, this would be a good journey.
"Greetings, I am Siah Toan, from Ithor. We will wait a moment longer while the droids load up the cargo." Two large droids began lifting up the cargo crates onto a repulsorlift.

Siah shuffled slowly closer to the two men. He noticed the scars on the Zabrak's face, it seemed that heat was a friend to no one.
The human wore custom armour, he also had some very modern equipment. Siah made a note that he was not your rank-and-file type.

"I have papers allowing us access to the trade lanes. We will make one stop at the Imperial Base of Command and Excise at Corusant." Siah eyed the Zabrak, "Did any lively friends from the cantina follow you when you left there?" Siah scanned the nearby streets and only saw the regular dock workers and port security agents going about their duties.

The droids then waited for the captain to open the cargo doors for them to load up the crates.

"Lets hope they don't, yeah?" Verguxa slurred "yeah, yeah, I'll open the ship"
Verguxa pushed a button on a vambrace on his left arm, accidentily activating his flamethower, almost burning the Ithorian.
"Aye sorry" he said drunkenly, hastely turning off the flamethower and pushing another button, opening the ships cargo hold.
"We're waiting on bugman now, are we?"

Couldnt find the thread

Mulako had been at the Ord Mantell dock waiting for the alleged ship he was suppose to run security for since early in the morning. Eventually after a little bit of searching he found the ship and the Ithorian that mentioned the ad. Mulako skuttled up towards the crew and waited for a break in the conversation before interjecting. "Excussse me but are you Sssiah from the transsssportsssion ad?"

"Hah, there you are, don't now why I didn't spot you sooner" Verguxa muttered, eyeing up the two meter tall Yam'rii. Verguxa looked to the droids loading the ship, keeping an eye on the Yam'rii just in case it tried to maul his face off.
"Feel free to murder the pirates, not me" Verguxa said "the Ithorian will tell you what to do"

Renn was fond of the new company. They all seemed a lot different than how the mandalorians were. He looked over his shoulder at his ship, and then he looked at the piece of scrap in front of him. "Are you sure this thing is good enough for the job? I don't wanna crash land on my first mission. By the way, how are we splitting up the creds?"

"Good enough? Good enough!? Pal, this things better than most of your crude mandolorian ships" Verguxa exclaimed angrily, already doubting his faith in his obviously low quality ship.

"Yeah, ok, well at least we take care of our ships. When was the last time you took that thing to get inspected? Mandalorian ships get the job done, always." Renn crossed his arms and watched the droids loading up the cargo. "Those droids are really taking their time. It's not like we have a mission or anything."

If Mulako's eyes weren't compound he'd be rolling them right now as the Mandalorian and the Zabarak continued to bicker about the quality or durability of someone's ship. Mulako didn't know as he stopped caring the second he found out that this was infant the whip he was going to be working on. "If you two are quite done prahapsss we ssshall depart for out employersss dessstination? You two can debate on whosss ssship isss better onccce we take off." He said as he scuttled off to help the droids load the cargo.

When the last crate was loaded, the droids marched off to other duties. Siah held his ground as the flames from the vambrace shot out, almost singeing his cloak. He nodded courteously to the large Yam'rii as he greeted the crew. Siah then continued to watched in silence as the Zabrak and Mandalorian exchanged ideologies about spacecraft.

Once the conversation had died down, Siah smiled to the crew and walked up the ramp into the vessel.
"You will each receive 5,000 credits now and the rest will be divided up upon completion of the mission. Once we've taken off and are underway we'll go over a few of the finer details. For now... Master Verguxa, would you show us to our quarters before we depart?" Typing methodically on his datapad, the Ithorian disappeared into the bowels of the vessel.

A light drizzle started and the gentle breeze transformed into a gusty wind. Shutters could be heard closing around the star port as the inhabitants prepared for rain. Security personnel disappeared into their guard posts, storekeepers rolled in their awnings and the locals left the streets.

Siah has already filed the complete fight-plan with Imperium authorities and it was merely a matter of lifting off and breaking free of the atmosphere.

"This be my ship" Verguxa said, trying to hide the fact that his father stole the ship in his bounty hunting courier "D5-Mantis, don't see these often, I call it Grobu's Bounty". The ship looked worn out, scrap metal crudely covering holes blown in the ship. Verguxa pushed the button on his vambrace and closed the cargo door, careful to avoid hitting the flamethrower button again.

"Shes a bit... old... will do the job though, tough old thing"
Verguxa gestered to the living quarters "sleep here, just avoid the far bed, last guy who slept there had the rakghoul plague".

Verguxa walked over to the cockpit of the ship and fell into the pilot seat and turned on the Grobu's Bounty, the ship rumbling and the engines charging up. "Time to leave this damn planet" Verguxa slurred, trying to make his voice sound as less drunk as possible "may want to hold on to something, don't worry, I've drivin' drunk many times before, I got this". The ship rose off the ground and flew foward into the sky, the force causing the cargo to slide up and down the cargo hold.

The ship narrowly avoided hitting another ship midair. "Rodian drivers" Verguxa muttered to himself. The ship broke through the atmosphere and into space. Verguxa stopped the ship in space and got out of the pilot seat, obviously regretting the far to many drinks he had in the cantina. "Maybe someone else should pilot, I don't want to crash this thing again, Jawa's charge tonnes for repairs" he said, stumbling to secure the cargo.

Renn stumbled as the ship veered around. He had taken his helmet off and placed it on a bed when he boarded the ship. "How do you not know how to pilot your own ship? You're the captian for a reason, right? Look, if I could fly this thing I would." He scratched his head, "Anyone else here a pilot?"

Siah walked to the bow of the ship. He saw that the vessel was old and had obviously been in a few firefights. He noticed some haphazard repairs, but for the most part the ship looked sturdy enough.

The Ithorian caught the tail end of the conversation.

Siah knew from the start that a private transport would be riskier, but a public shuttle through Imperium space would have run an even greater risk. This was his only chance and this was the perfect moment.

"You know your ship better than anyone, Master Verguxa. No matter your physical state, I have confidence in your piloting skills. If we can make a good start now, then our journey will be all the easier." Siah walked around the small cockpit and glanced over the consoles and multitude of computing devices. He doubted that anyone without proper knowledge would be able to fly this vessel.

"Once we're at Corusant we will make a stop for a few hours while I get some documents in order. The ride from Ord Mantell to the Command Centre at Corusant is short, but there have been reports of pirate activity. There is no major Imperium presence in this region so we must keep a watchful eye on our sensors."
Siah paused for the information to set in, "
Then, from Corusant we head to Denon, it will be a long trip and should be uneventful due to the heightened presence of Naval blockades."

The Ithorian looked earnestly at the men in the room. "The safety of the cargo crates is your number one priority. Under no circumstances are any crates to be damaged or put in harm's way." Siah stared out of the large plexiglass window to the stars beyond.

"Fine, fine Ithorian. I'll fly this thing" Veguxa said "but if I crash it someone else's paying for it".

Verguxa sat back on the pilot seat and took off his helmet, placing it next to the pilot chair. "Prepare for a bumpy ride then, you go secure the cargo Mandalorian, just make sure it dosen't slide into you mid-flight". Verguxa sped the ship off towards Corusant.
