Tabloid The Real Reason Korre Belasi Stepped Away from Politics and the FWA

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to Celebrity Catch! Your favorite holonet program for all of the latest and greatest celebrity gossip! If you didn't hear it here, you probably didn't hear it at all," Elora welcomed viewers with a cheerful lilt to her voice, the smile she wore as phony as a Hutt. The Pantoran hated this segment, and she swore that a part of her very soul died every time she was forced to mutter the words, 'Welcome back to Celebrity Catch.' But as much as she might have longed for real journalism, she had bills to pay and a life to live. Not everyone could live off of good will and warm, fuzzy feelings like the Jedi.

"Just days ago Korre Belasi formally announced her resignation from the office of Prime Minister. When pressed by reporters to issue a statement, the former Prime Minister of the Free Worlds stated that she would be taking a break from politics to focus on humanitarian efforts with the GHO, an organization she founded along with Dr. Ilana Morata at the height of the AMS crisis.

"But according to sources close to the Belascan, that might not be the only reason she stepped down as Prime Minister. This time, it's a tale as old as time—love." The Pantoran smiled, adding, "And no, it's probably not who you're thinking of. There were rumors of a romantic connection between Miss Belasi and Senator Narpoo, but those rumors were never substantiated. No, the man in question this time is none other than the Jade Prince himself, Jin Vaisra of Fondor."

Elora arched an eyebrow. "Unlike Senator Narpoo, he doesn't strike me as the teddy bear type. Whatever type he might be, Korre Belasi must approve since she stepped down from her appointed office to pursue a love affair with him. It would appear that Senator Vaisra approves of her, too, since he's already ushered her into the Palace of a Thousand Stars to meet his mother, the Jade Queen! Romantic, isn't it? A whirlwind romance, born behind the hidden doors of politics and blossoming over the gulf that divides the New Republic and the Free Worlds Alliance.

"Now that Miss Belasi has met the Jade Queen, we wouldn't be surprised if there are wedding bells to be heard in the near future. When the happy couple does decide to tie the knot, you can rest assured that Celebrity Catch will be up to date with all of the latest details!"

[Korre Belasi]

Korre was lounging in her office and looking over a lab report when her datapad buzzed with a Switter notification. Curious as to what it was about, the Belascan traded the report for her datapad and opened up the blue bird app. To her surprise, and her confusion, Effie of all people had tagged her.

"Maid of honor?" What sparked this? Upon closer inspection though, Korre found she'd been tagged multiple times under a Switter thread related to a new Celebrity Catch! segment. She listened to most of the video with a neutral expression on her face, but it wasn't long before amusement took over and Korre let out a fit of laughter.

"Oh my k- I guess no one escapes unscathed," Korre laughed to herself as she switched to her messaging app and began to type out a text to Ilana (@Killa Ree).

Korre wouldn't lie - she was really tempted to egg the reporters on, but maybe it wouldn't be the best idea. She'd wait for the doc's answer. In the meantime...

The woman was still surprised it took this long - until after she'd stepped down - for someone to write something like this. "Better Jin than Narpoo, I guess." She wondered how he felt about it. Korre hoped he found it funny and wasn't irritated by it, because the Belscan wouldn't mind trolling the public a little bit now that she had a lot of extra free time.

Jin grimaced at the screen, arms crossed over his chest and sunken into his leather armchair. “First Emil, now Korre. What’s next? Emryc? Andruil?” He turned to Venka, who stood beside him with a tablet as she scrolled through Switter. “It feels like the media is obsessed with pairing me with heads of state.”

“Former heads of state, sir. Belasi is now retired.” Jin waved a dismissive head. Head of the Free Worlds, head of the GHO—it was all the same, in his mind. They were both poorly funded organizations held together by a single brain cell. Korre’s, specifically. How she’d managed to keep the Alliance alive for so long was a miracle in itself.

“You know,” Venka continued, not backing off, “a relationship with Miss Belasi would not be so bad. Good publicity. Excellent connections. And she seems sweet. She would be good for you.”

Jin rolled his eyes. There Venka went again, playing matchmaker. Just like his mother, constantly prodding him to find a wife or a husband to settle down with and continue the Vaisra line. Why couldn’t they all simply stay out of his business? “Sure, Korre is the jewel of the Rim, but she’s so boring she could put me into a coma.” He drank from his tea. “Besides, she’s not my type.”

“Your type being mediocre-looking blondes half your height?” she said, clearly referring to Sibyl or Emil. Jin glanced over his shoulder and shot her an irritated look. “I beg your pardon?”

Venka looked at him and shrugged. “Am I wrong?”
