With the recent outbreaks in the skirmishes between the Jedi and Sith, Thelonious had thought it a good idea to teach some of the younger students in the order how to defend themselves properly. The training room Thelonious had picked out for today was spacious enough to hold several classes at once, and while his was small one could never be to careful when training padawans on how to use a lightsaber. The Ilum temple was perfect for this kind of training. It provided the peace that all Jedi need, the separation from the rest of the galaxy and most importantly its connection to the force. While Thelonious checked and double checked to make sure he had all the supplies they needed, he sat himself at the real reason be had chose this particular room.

The old grand piano he sat was a beautiful black mahogany and had a crystal clear sound in the hands of a master such as Thelonious. While some chose to sit in quiet as they meditated, and others chose a constant movement, Thelonious preferred the sound of music. The subtle melodies, the combinations of notes to make different sounds was as calming to him as the gentle hum of a hyperspace generator was to see mechanic. Thelonious would continue to play until his charges entered the room and would only stop until the last person entered.

Cecil shrugged off the familiar weight of meditation, glancing momentarily at his holopad. It was time to join the Padawans in a sparring session. Cecil had travelled from Lothal, mere weeks after his encounter with the Sith presence, to this temple in order to further his knowledge over Lightsaber forms, a teaching that he would today pass on. Perfecting Vrun Kagi and choosing an heir to its art would be his primary purpose today. He rose, walking the familiar halls of the Illum temple until finally he entered the training room. He nodded, amused, at Thelonius as he took his position behind his fellow knight.

The hall echoed lightly with the sound of his steps as Bast neared the training room. He was a little early, but this was not by any means due to any form of excitement, rather that the padawan was blissfully unaware of the concept of time most days of his life. Sometime after lunch he thought was the appropriate estimate for the training session, and whether it was luck or some lucky cybernetic addition to his brain, his estimates were not terribly far off the mark, but were never on time.

The sound of piano music soon joined the sound of his footsteps as the ambiance of the temple. As the padawan entered the door, an expression of annoyed confusion took over him as he contemplated if he was in the right place.

Tarnit was only occasionally on Ilum, preferring to study and teach at the Tython temple. However, special occasions called for special actions. He had the feeling that it was time to take on an apprentice. Tarnit had led several classes on Tython for dozens if not hundreds of padawans, but he hadn't taken on a padawan of his own, and with the war about to break open the shores of the Republic and Jedi Space, Tarnit knew he would need to be able to leave the Temples, and knew that he needed to teach others the ways of the force. So, here he was, on the sacred and powerful planet of Ilum, watching as young jedi were going to a fro, some collecting a crystal for the first time. This brought Tarnit joy, remembering the exciting days of youth. He was here to sit in on a class that Knight Thelonious was instructing, in hopes to find a suitable padawan to take as his apprentince.

He strolled down the halls, and was pleased to hear music from the training room. He turned the corner only to be met with Bast's back. Tarnit smiled, putting a hand on Bast's shoulder as he politely walked passed him toward the piano and two knights. As he approached the piano, he nodded politely at both companions. Tarnit's face was warm and smiling. He then turned and motioned Bast further in the room.

Jakt Utlanning and Thelonius had met before and they had engaged in a sparring match. It was truly some of the best sparring Jakt had ever participated in. Who won was not important, what was important was that Jakt had learned invaluable lessons from the younger man. The Beast Lord hoped that he had been able to teach something to the young Jedi as well. It was there Thelonious had told him of the training session and the Onderonian Noble had always been taught "what one doesn't gain financially, one gains in experience: there was always more to learn."

Jakt had arrived early. Always accustomed to wearing his furs and armor he rarely took it off. His heirloom of a vibrosword hung at his hip as he leaned against the wall in the back of the room nursing the bowl of tabac in his clay pipe and snapping his fingers in syncopation to the tune Thelonious was tickling. Jakt had grown to like the kid and would gladly learn from him and if he asked for it, contribute to what the other padawans here could learn.

Just a short blurb to get him out of the doorway

The sullen teenager soon had his thoughts distracted by the feeling of a large hand on his shoulder. Turning his chin slightly, Bast glanced over the friendly Knight, his own face still rather expressionless. This however, was not a reflection on the knight but rather just a result of the sleep patterns of most young in the galaxy, which left them looking worse for ware even at high-noon. None the less, he shifted to the side and let the Jedi through.

Bast followed him in after the Jedi beckoned him forward. Nodding at his teachers in a hap-hazardly respectful manner of greeting, Bast walked to the side of the room and sat himself down in a relaxed meditative position.

Jake preferd the warmer planets in the order but only because the view out side was better. It was not that Ilium had a bad view it was the weather made it imposbil to view. Still here he was for training in light saber combat. With war fast approaching it was wise gor all Jedi to know how how to defend them selfs.

Running through the halls Jake all most burst through the doors. "Am i late."

Tamara had been walking down the cold walls of the Ilum temple, on her way to the training room some of the padawans were supposed to meet, until she saw that familiar youngling Jake running up behind her. She stopped and put her hand out to prevent him from going any further,"Slow down there Jay. The halls are a bit slippery for the frozen floors. And you're far from late.....just take it it slow please..."

She would continue to make her way to the training room, hoping Jake would be there following her,
"Don't you have a master yet? All padawans are supposed to have one"

Jake was brought to a halt by the out streched hand as he skidded to stop. "Th thats great, being late is never good." Jake had to think for awhile he sort of had a master. But then again he hardly saw him. "Sort off i mean yes but i spend most of my time alone."

Tamara raised an eyebrow,"Really? You're a really strange little kid" She smiled just as she reached the already open doorway into the training room and stepped in. She leaned up against one of the walls while she waited for the rest to arrive,"So what form are you using? I'm not sure you can learn anything over here....every form is taught a different way and one Jedi master can't teach a whole class full of different padawans with different fighting styles"

But let's just see what happens, she thought.

"Soresu, way of the mynok. True he can't train us in the use of our chosen style. But he can train us in our to fight with it."

Cecil observed those who entered the room. Being a newcomer to Ilum, he knew next to noone whom had entered, but still held his calm demeanour. The Padawan had begun small talk among them, a good sign. Ice breaking always helps before rigorous training. He took a step forward, regarding them all with a warm glance.

"Hello, Ladies and Gentleman. My name is Cecil Of the house Espaa. I am supposed to be aiding in supervision today, after a short sparring session between me and Thelonious, to review the basics of saber combat. Are we all in attendance?"

Summer was still getting used to this very strange complex that was now her home. She was also getting used to the concept of time, rather than relying on the sun to keep track of the day's progression. Because of this, she had chosen to take her lunch in the same training room she was supposed to be in that afternoon. After eating she had tried to meditate with the Force - also a concept she was getting used to - and after a while of no success had instead fallen asleep.

The piano music didn't wake her, but the buzz of conversation and a sudden commanding voice certainly did. Her eyes popped wide open and she was embarrassed to see that the rest of the training group were already assembled on the other side of the vast room.

"At least no one noticed me," she mumbled to herself.

She quickly jumped up from her corner and quietly slunk up to the rear of the group, trying not to be noticed. Getting used to communicating with other people was still difficult for her, and she knew being late to a session wouldn't help matters with the other padawans. She was glad to see that Thelonious, one of the Jedi Knights that found her on her home planet and invited her to join the Jedi, was there. At least someone knew something of her back story and might be patient with her.

Regardless, she was determined to do her best in this training session. One thing she knew she was good at was fighting, and that was the sort of training this was supposed to be. She knew she could handle anything they through at her.

Tarnit watched the young jedi assemble. It was difficult for him, but he was here to mainly observe. He would have loved to dive in and start talking and instructing, but that wasn't his place. His place was to watch, assist, and hopefully, find a padawan to take has his apprentice.

As he surveyed the small group, he didn't know what to think. He was half expecting a face to pop out as his future pupil, but often that's not how the force worked. He sighed, hoping to inhale some wisdom from the force, and relaxed his stance. He looked at Thelonious, waiting for him to begin, anxious to see the students in action.

Thelonious continued to play until the last of his students had arrived during which he played his last note with a flourish. He was glad to see that there were a mixture of both padawans and knights here as well as some that he knew. As he stood he joined his fellow Knight and waited for quiet to make sure that he had everyone's fullest attention before speaking.

"Greetings brothers and sisters of the force, my name is Thelonious Knight. As Cecil said, today we will be going over the basics of lightsaber combat. While some here may have already branched out into other forms that best fit your abilities, there are some here who do not yet know how to wield a lightsaber. So for those who know how to fight already, please be patient for those who don't. So for now we will be focusing on form one."

As Thelonious began his welcoming speech, he was quite nervous if truth be told, he had never really taught such a big class nor one that was so diverse. However he was quite good at hiding such nerves and as such he showed no such emotion upon his countenance, he motioned towards Cecil before continuing, "If you would my fellow Knight," he said pointing to a spot for him to stand, "lightsaber combat is about finesse and skill rather than just brute force. As such the body has six points of contact," Thelonious said pointing to each in turn, "now the goal of form one lightsaber combat is what is known as the sun djem, or the disarming slash. After Cecil and I show you basic strikes and parries we will pair you off into pairs and you will spar until you successfully pull off a sun djem."

Cecil took a stride, placing himself adjacent to Thelonious, to his beckoned place. In a flick of his wrist, he willed his saber to his hand. The familiar clap of cold metal greeted him as he clasped it, igniting it's violet blade. He brought it to eye level, modifying the dampener as to make it nonlethal. he then bowed to Thelonius, bringing his saber to the bridge of his nose and flourishing downwards in a salute.

"Thelonius will demonstrate this technique on myself. Watch carefully at how it is preformed."

Jake was nbever that good at lightsabre combat but he did know the basic and was pretty good in defence. And while he was no master of sun djem it was a very basic move that Jake learned has a youngling. Still he doubted he would achieve a disarm on his first strike.

Having joined the other padawns from his previous meditative position, Bast felt relaxed as he observed the Knights instruct them. His eyes leveled and his face expressionless as he awaited the next instructions. He had "practiced" with a lightsaber to be sure, however Bast was never very proactive in his desire to learn. He wasn't very proactive about anything. In fact he couldn't really care what "type" of fighting they learned as long as he would be able to end it quickly. And the Jedi who had manipulated several practice spars before was sure he could do it again. Work smarter not harder was a philosophy he would take to his lazy Jedi grave.

Adun had just reached the observation deck and checked to make sure he hadn't missed too much. Good they are just starting. He thought with relief. He noticed another knight was beside him. He didn't recognize him, though he didn't know most of the order now, but nodded towards him as he glanced over at the padawans. He smiled at his daughter, but kept his eyes on the other students. He desired to teach another, though he had been told that his family was not allowed to be his official students. He focused on his right eye and looked into each one of their force presences. He'd watch and see how much the force fluctuated within them. Adun had no real preference in who he would train, but if any of them seemed to need assistance he'd be more than happy then to help them.

"Now the disarming slash can be used many different ways, from destroying your opponents weapon to simply disarming them. The srike can be as simple as bashing your opponents weapon away to create an opening as such," Thelonious said as he ignited hi own icy blue blade and preformed a basic bash and slash technique against Cecil, then he showed a saber lock in which he turned the blade so Cecil had no choice but to drop it, "to more complex maneuvers such as gaining momentum and leverage against your opponent," He finished up while powering down his saber.

Thelonious turned towards his class noticing a newcomer in the back, though he made no notion of it and spoke to the class at large, "The srike itself has no single move to but rather it is left to the combatants mind as how best to deal with the situation. A successful Sun Djem is when your opponents weapon is disabled or no longer has their weapon in hand. Remember combat is constant and ever changing and as such your techniques and movements should should never stay the same, you should always be ready for the unexpected and be willing to be flexible. Before Cecil and I pair you up so you can practice, are there any questions?"
