Oh c’mon, I told you the Devil was in the details,” he said with a sly smirk. If only she knew how much discipline he displayed by not pulling her in.

Then the moment was gone.

Crix had settled in at his workstation when Kara started to say something, “Hm?” he said, looking toward her. Taking a pull from his cigarette, suddenly she decided to take a shower, “Thought you needed the— yeah, fine.” he called out in response.

The Enforcer finished up his mission prep in no time. At this point he’d been using the same load out for so long, it was all second nature. He was just pulling on his jacket when BeeGee twilled something across the comms.

Copy.” he said into his comm then he called out to Kara, “We’ll be dropping out of hyperspace in fifteen and on the ground in thirty.

Thirty minutes later…

Crix strode down the boarding ramp of The Blackbird with his usual cocksure strut. His eyes were locked on the sunset that cast the cityscape of Prosperity in silhouette. He lingered there, nerves a little on edge. Not for the job, that was gonna be fucking easy, no it was Kara that had him like this. He couldn’t put his finger on it, but there’d been a change in her when he’d shown her that datapad.

He looked over his shoulder as she sauntered down the ramp. Unconsciously his lip curled into a smirk as he looked at her. This might not be that hard. He fired up his speeder bike, “Need a ride?

By the time they reached the museum the sun had set and night shrouded the streets in darkness while the streetlights lit the way. The rustic industrial visage of Prosperity was refreshing. The planet had a solid blue collar to it. Poor bastards. He knew his luck would run out one day. He knew he’d take a job and that’d be it. His last one. He wasn’t a Peef Callo. He was just an Enforcer. His mind drifted to Kessel, ...and a shitty one at that, he thought as he slowed his bike and set down a street over on the backside of the museum.

An alleyway ran directly into the back door of the joint and it was dark as sin the whole way. Once they blew out those doors clutching the Royal Jewels they’d be in the clear.

He smiled then slid off the bike and offered her a hand, “You ready for our date?

Prosperity, Kriff, whoever named this planet and its cities had a karking good view on life. If it was up to her, names would be a lot different; Byblonic, in reference to how much it sucked to be stuck on Byblos for your entire life while knowing you're meant for something more. Maybe Shanefall in reference to the sweet moment where there had finally been justice for that filthy mercenary's betrayal of the Zaa Fenn. She grinned and then looked at Crix and the smugness and bitterness she was feeling quickly melted. Maybe Opportunity and Prosperity weren't such bad names, after all.

"Only if you take the scenic route," she replied with a smile before joining him on the speeder and holding him tight. She wasn't afraid he'd lose control of the speeder, or was averse to high speeds, but it was a nice excuse to hold him for a long time without it becoming weird.. considering things.

No, Opportunity and Prosperity weren't bad names at all. Not when she could share them with him. Life in this galaxy was far from an easy ride for the likes of them. Both Kara and Crix didn't always have it easy, to put it mildly, but right now Kara didn't really care about any of that. She was here, with him, sharing the words opportunity and prosperity.

The sun went down, temperature dropped and by driving into the darkest alleyway imaginable Kara knew that her little daydream of happiness was over. Still, he smiled so she smiled. It wasn't rocket science to figure out what went through them. "Almost," she put her hands on her bare neckline, "I seem to have misplaced by jewelry," Kara cocked an eyebrow, "Will you help me look for them?"

I’d love too.” he replied. Why was she so cute? He reached out and took her hand as they fell into their work. This place was archaic after all, not unguarded. Just as they came to the corner he held out a hand for her to slow. He pointed at the upper left corner of the building, “Security cam. Once I take this out, we won’t have more than ten minutes to snag the jewels and haul ass.” his grin took on a challenging air, “You ready?

Crix pulled his blaster and fired. The cam went up in a spray of sparks. The Devil of Denon was already covering ground hurtling for the door. He hit it fast, forced the lock and was in. No alarms so far, but it would only be a matter of time.

He looked back over to Kara, they had closer to thirty minutes. The cameras were not connected to a normal security loop, because the funding for the museum had been cut significantly during the last senatorial election. The cam he’d just fried was working, but it’s main job was to feed video to a cloud storage service. It wasn’t being watched 24/7.

The inside of the museum was significantly colder than outside. He stepped over to a directory and pointed toward their mark, “Just down the hall and to the left, your highness.

"Make sure you don't miss," Kara teased as Crix unholstered his pistol and aimed for the security camera. Ofcouse he didn't miss and on top of that he wasted no time and rushed forward to bash the door open. Kara quickly followed, entering the museum a mere moment after he had bashed open the door. The temperature drop was pleasant and for a moment she paused to allow the colder air to permeate her skin.

That said, she was too much of a professional to let it distract her and when Crix gave her directions she immediately followed and dashed down the hall, then to her left. She walked right into an exhibit detailing the 'Wealth of the Outer Rim' showing off multi-colored ancient robes, impractical weapons, weird masks and then right there in the center encased in glass the so-called "Jewels of Quesh" as found by famed explorer and privateer Lucian Derry.

"Well, kriff me-" Kara gasped as she recognized them instantly. "-they really are the karking Crown Jewels of Onderon." milennia ago they had been removed from crowns, scepters and necklaces to fit into a thief's pockets, but the rarity and clarity of color were undeniably the same. "Okay, you said I needed to slice into something," Kara turned towards Crix, "Do you know where the panel is, because we're not smashing the glass without disabling all security." There's no way they'd be able to get offworld if they did that.

Crix followed behind Kara keeping an eye out for the security guard. They came to a stop at the Jewels and she stole the words right out of his mouth. An actual, bonafide smile spread across his face. Months of failures had culminated in this moment and he was getting to share it with someone he actually… liked. It was surreal. Especially because pretending he just liked her was out of the question now. There was no denying how he felt.

Fuck.

He watched the dim light emanating from the jewel display dance across her skin like the undulating reflection of water cast on the wall. She turned toward him and he found himself suddenly looking away, flustered momentarily his mind raced to catch up, “Oh, yeah you’re gonna love this.

Crix stepped around to the back of the display case and pointed, “It’s literally, right here.

The sound of shoes squeaking to a stop at the end of the hall froze him in place. Crix carefully edged up to the bust of a Gungan warrior and did his best not to move. The beam of a flashlight swept across the room.

H-hello? Is someone there?” asked the security guard.

Crix eased his weapon into stun. The beam of light coated the room again.

Huh, I’m fucking losing it.” he grumbled. “What was I gonna do?” he asked what he thought was an empty exhibit area, “Die for 15 creds and hour? Oh hell nah,” he laughed, “Ida been like, “TAKE WHATEVER YOU WANT JUST DON’T HURT ME,” he sighed, “I’m so lonely.

He said hanging his head in privet shame as he began to shuffle back to his post.

The security, or rather the lack of it, astounded Kara. She had been used to the fortresses of the Coreworlds and it had been ages since she had to deal with the security installations of backwater worlds like Opportunity. The panel was easy to pry open and with her port scanner plugged in a civilian system like this wouldn't take long to slice through. "You keep wa-" he words died quickly as the Gungan warrior approached from the end of the hallway and started shining his torch around, seemingly uncertain whether his low-paying gig was worth the hassle if he did find an intruder. Kara watched how Crix put his weapon on stun and seemed ready to drop the Nabooan-native when the latter seemed to talk himself into a bonafide mental crisis.

She felt for him, she really did, but there were more important things on her mind than the emotional wellbeing of a Gungan security guard on Opportunity and that was, well... the two million in credits sitting inside that display case.

The programs she had written, combined with the port scanner's default functionality would make quick work of the panel. Unfortunately for them, that still meant they had to kill a few more seconds of quietly contemplating the gungan's return and what they'd do if he did press inside the room, or, they could contemplate their shared future. Kara knew something about Crix that he didn't and she knew that keeping it from him was wrong. And yet.. she didn't tell him. "So, how are you going to spend it all?"

Crix watched as the Gungan shuffled away. He slowly let out his held breath. Relief replacing determination. Being stunned wasn’t the worst thing that could happen to someone, but it wasn’t enjoyable. Not to mention he’d get canned from this apparently shitty job.

Kara was back at work and he was on watch. She asked what he was going to do with all the money and he laughed, “Might see if I can get this fixer I know to jump ship.” He leveled her with a shit eating grin.

There wasn’t a chance in hell. Kara was Zaa Fenn. He’d never ask her to leave Peef because he knew she wouldn’t. Besides what in the hell did he have to offer? He was nothing. The Devil? That was a fucking joke.

A failure.

That’s what he was.

Maybe get a bigger ship,” he smirked, then finally added, “I haven’t really thought about it.” He lied.

He’d thought about it a lot. He was getting out. He was done. This just wasn’t fun anymore. The thrill he’d lived on for years was an empty death wish. He wanted to settle down and just be bored for a while. Maybe open his own shop, and fix ships until the cigarras finally killed him.

Why, what would you do with it?” he asked.

Kara couldn't stop herself from laughing, but she tried and thus let it all out in a snort that thankfully wasn't loud enough for the Gungan to hear. "You do need a bigger ship," especially if he wants to have more beds on it after- "Got it," a low hiss unsealed the display case from the base. Now, Crix could lift it up, grab the diamonds and they could get the kriff out of there without anyone being the wiser. The gungan would ofcourse lose his job anyway, stunned or not, for he had duty during the theft of a priceless artefact.

Kara unplugged the port scanner and put the cover back on the panel before rising up and watching him steal the payday of a lifetime. She had ignored his joke of convincing her to join the Crimson Dawn and she knew that he didn't expect her to entertain the thought. Administrator Lanris had a nice thing going for her on Omega Station, but being Zaa Fenn meant to be part of underworld royalty. Preef had essentially ruled the Five Syndicates, with the Collective as his Council, the same way an Emperor stood at the top of the Empire. Kara was Zaa Fenn now and while their Empire had significantly diminished, some would even claim it became part of the cartel, she was still its new boss.

"I can't believe I'm going to say this, but-" she pocketed the port scanner and took a single diamond from the display and balanced it purposefully on top of her left ring finger, "-let's get back to your ship now." Their honeymoon destination was to be on the planet Onderon.

Kara gave him the go ahead and Crix wasted no time pilfering the jewels. Before she could say they needed to move he was already moving. They retraced their steps and we’re back into the alley in no time.

Once she was on the bike he’d fire it up and take off. Maybe it was kismet this job had been so fucking hard. Maybe it was just his luck. All that mattered was that he had the jewels. He’d done what Reyna hadn’t believed possible. He’d proven to himself that he was more capable than the blundering guards she’d allowed to beat the shit out of him, and he’d done it primarily by himself.

The irony of this planet and city’s name juxtaposed Crix Dolan’s life nicely. Opportunity. The thing he’d never been given. The thing he’d had to claw and scrap for. Prosperity. The thing that always eluded him, that is until now. This was a new beginning. A chance at a fresh start. A part of him wished he wasn’t going to do it alone, but it wasn’t like he’d never done that before.

He was done with Crimson Dawn.

He felt bad about it, but Terra was smart. She didn’t need him. She’s done plenty fine before he’d popped back into the picture and she’d be fine when he left it.

Crix took the scenic route back to The Blackbird. He let the gleaming lights of the city adorne the skyline while they meandered back to the spaceport. He pulled into the hangar hanger and came to a stop. He’d let Kara off before parking his speeder bike in his ship's cargo bay.

In what felt like a blink of an eye they were loaded up and making for space. His astromech took over the plotting and Crix made for the lounge. He pulled out an incredibly expensive bottle of Dantooine Whiskey and poured himself and Kara a glass.

“Cheers,” he said, offering her the glass, “Couldn’t have done it without you.”

He took a sip of the whiskey and settled into his booth.

The trip to Onderon wouldn’t take too long, he had a suite already reserved under his alias. Whether she wanted to join him out not was up to her. He pulled out his datapad and paid her.

“Keep the diamond, call it a bonus, it looks good on you,” he said with a celebratory smirk.

Dantooine Whiskey from a year Kara knew to be really good, but while he did pour her a glass she knew she really shouldn't. She still took it and held it in her hand to cheer with him, "To this," she said, smiling and knowing that he could have, in fact, pulled this job without her if he had wanted to. That was a good sign. It meant she wasn't just a conquest and a casual hookup. At least, not in retrospect, anyway. Guess he did start out as that for her, too.

The credits were transferred right away, which was professional to be sure, but robbed her of an excuse to pester him later on. The only call she could make was for another job. Something did show up. Job on Etti IV, few weeks from now. Maybe that was better. Reversed the roles again, see what happens.

What he did next surprised her and it would be readable on his face, "Keep it?" Kara asked, incrediously, as she held up the diamond for closer inspection. It was just the right size to fit on a ring. Probably had been, once upon a time. "You know what they say about giving a girl diamonds?" She grinned as she placed the glass of expensive whiskey on the table and moved over to his side of the booth. She wouldn't join him to meet with the Onderon Royals, but they did have a long hyperspace trip to go back towards Hutt space and the droid could do all of the flying..
