For several weeks, an advertisement had been drifting on the Darknet:
For those who did inquire with 'Saal' by asking around on several underground bars and brothels, they would receive no answer about him, but later would recieve a brief interview to weed out possible Imperials and authorities. Should 'Saal' find nothing wrong with the application, the applicant would receive a simple contract, an entry fee requirement, and a list of enclosed rules:
With the contract filled and entry fee paid, participants would receive a time and location.
The 'Den' was an abandoned refinery factory. Its previous owners had long ago went bankrupt, and the place hadn't been taken care of well enough to attract purchase offers. Two stories tall, the ex-refinery sported much debris: overturned barrels, broken machinery, rusted pipes and ladders, rickety catwalks, narrow ramps and barely functioning lights. To Saal's credit, it appeared the Rodian at least refortified the walls and ceilings. At the entrances and exits there were large gates ready to shut and seal the participants inside, and the windows were shielded to prevent any escape.
Inside, a protocol droid greeted each person by asking for a name. Those who identified as participants were told so simply wait on the ground floor and intermingle with other participants. Non-participants were directed towards the viewing tower at the center of the factory. Once, the tower had been a large storage tank for the entire factory. Now, it had been cleared out. Inside at the top, people could look out from protected Duraplex and see the carnage below. At the bottom of the tower, where no windows were available, viewers could use the screens connected to currently unseen cam droids.
Derium entered the Den with caution. He wasn't the only one. Under the cautious eyes of watchful rodians, others entered the factory. Some were other potential contestants, wanting to prove themselves. Others were simple viewers, hoping to gamble on the results, or to simply have a good and potentially sadistic time. After all, the advertisement was intriguing. Deathmatches against deadly animals? It was harder and harder to find those kinds of things in the Core worlds. Most would have to travel to some out of nowhere planet like Tatooine.
Still, Derium was excited and intrigued. He wanted to improve upon his perfection, and fighting against deadly animals would be just the test for himself. Plus, the money would be nice as well. He wasn't exactly rolling in money lately.
"This shall be fun. A step on my path towards perfection, haha!" Derium giggled aloud to his fellow participants.
