Zonju V

Kardai lounged across the overly large command chair in her ship. Her knees draped over one arm of it while her back nestled probably more uncomfortably than not, against the other armrest. In her lap she studied over the documents and charts of shipping lanes and patrol routes. Truth was, Kardai and the Apate had been watching this route for weeks now, hunting so near more militarized groups had been risky, but the pay had been much greater when it came to false securities.

For the time being they were tracking a freighter as it approached Wild Space. One reported to be carrying a rather large cache of weapons. Weapons were always a hot target, especially ones heading to such lawless areas – meant most of them were likely unregistered.

Finally Kardai could wait no longer, the nearer they got to Zonju V the more uneasy she felt. She certainly didn’t want to entangle herself with these Space Cowboys anymore than she had to. They’d been dodging them for months now, and sitting practically on their doorstep was both mocking and made a good target if they wanted to come after them.

Shifting around in her chair she put her booted feet back on the deck and pushed herself up, tossing the pad into the now vacant seat. Casting a glimpse towards Ryko she gave her nod, “Rally the Crew.”

Kards paced back and forth just slightly as she ran her plan through her mind quickly. It wouldn’t be much of a difference than their normal tactics. Hide in the shadow of Zonju V, then hit them, hit them fast, and disable them.

Her thoughts drew back to focus as the repetitive alert klaxon chimed overhead, a yellow light flickered in rhythm with it, her ship was small and the few crew members that reported easily fit within the command center of the vessel. Kardai went over the basic outline of her plan. How it was going to go down, how she expected everyone to help when it came to boarding the other ship. They’d take what they could get out quickly, one trip. Kards never came up with a formal structure of battle, a lot of it was on the fly, but it didn’t routinely fail them, and most of the time things never went according to plan anyhow, so it was a waste of breath to try. She also never told them precisely what they were going after and where nor when, lessened the chances of a spy or infiltrator reporting back on what they were going after. She’d tell them when they needed to know, and not a nanosecond before. The only person who routinely knew what Kardai’s plans were, was her First Mate, Ryko.

“Tracked Vessel is emerging from hyperspace.” Chimed in the droid humming by the sensor console.

“To your posts.” Kardai ordered, quickly disbursing the gathered crew off to go gather up their packs and weapons, to prepare for boarding along with their repulsor lifts for the cargo containers within the freighter.

“Pay day Ryko, lets go.” She more or less ordered the Mandalorian, nodding towards the helm controls, then glimpsing towards the gunners at the adjacent consoles, “Keep on your toes, communication array first, then engines.”

It would be a mistake in that order, but that was yet to come.

As the swift IR-3F bolted into flank speed, it emerged from the darkened side of Zonju V, its matte black hull was an ominous blurry shape as it picked up speed towards the slowing freighter.

“Get ready.” Kards glimpsed towards the gunners again and placed her hands on one of the consoles ahead of her, leaning against it slightly as she watched through the view ports of the bridge. She didn’t have to pay any attention to the ranges listed on the readouts below her, she never did, she knew the Apate well enough to know when her own ship was in firing range.

“Fire!”

The four turbolaser turrets burst to life as those bolts headed right for the communications array on the freighter, an eruption from the area with bits of debris came as the Apate cruised right past the freighter, a glimpse towards the droid as she questioned, “Did they get any comms off?”

“Negative Captain, the freighter was still powering her systems when the communications array was destroyed.”

“Grea..” Kardai started to remark just as her entire vessel rocketed, stumbling her into the console as alerts lit up all over the consoles around them.

“What the frell…” she snarled as she clutched tighter on the console as another rumbled thud came with a second rocking of her vessel.

“Get us turned around Ryko, that damned ship isn’t suppose to have weapons!”

Someone was going to get an ass chewing later for reporting to her it was an unarmed transport.

The Apate was fast, but she was big, it took a few hits to get her turned back forward. Unfortunately by the time they got back around the droid was already reporting that the freighter was powering up it’s hyperdrive.

“****!” she growled, she looked to the gunner on her left, “Target her engines, get them down.”

Just then that fiery bolt came from the turret mounted atop of the freighter, jarring them again, which instantly drew Kardai’s attention over to the gunner at her right, “And for gods sake take out the damn turret!”

She had to give it to her gunners, they were good, it that they managed to hit their targets in a couple of shots was a testament to their unrefined skills, but even as the assaulting fire from the freighter was snuffed out, and the hits from their turbolasers hit the engine pods, that damned freighter bolted into hyperspace.

Kardai slammed her fist down hard onto the console which raddled the whole thing as she snarled out, “Fierfek!”

Turning back from the view ports she started to stalk back towards her seat, obviously more than a little pissed. She’d not make it there when the droid commented, almost a bit timidly.

“Captain, our sensors have picked up the escaping freighter a few hundred klicks ahead. I’m reading massive power fluctuations from her hyperdrive and engine core.”

Kardai spun about on her heels and looked back off towards the distance, “Track that vessel! Ryko get us out there!”

The Apate bolted forward, accelerating rapidly towards the vessel in the distance. As they neared Kardai could see the true extent of the damage, one of the engine pods was near torn off, sparking and sputtering out fuel from one of the sides. Those huge drops were scattered like a trail behind it. Luckily Ryko saw it and didn’t take them through it.

The droid chimed in again, “It appears the vessel has suffered some structural collapse and is caught in the planet’s gravity well. She’s going down Captain.”

“Can we get close enough and pull her back Ryko?” she asked, almost hopeful. The Mandalorian would never get a chance to answer as that fuel ignited, a brilliant glow filled the dark skies as that trail caught and the engine pod exploded off the side of the freighter, further hurling her down towards Zonju V. Kardai’s hand came up, shielding the view till that nova’d glow burnt itself out, temporarily blinded she found her focus returning just in time to see that the freighter’s hull was glowing brilliant red as it was sucked down into the atmosphere.

She sighed out, watching bits break off the hull and burn up. The Apate held its position, watching the ship, their prize get sucked down to the great wasteland that was Zonju V. A few minutes later Kardai was back in her seat, a frustrated look on her face, sometimes they got away, but it was poodoo like this that really frustrated her as she tapped on that pad, her fingertips rapped on the pad.

“Captain..” came the timid voice of the droid who had seen it’s master in a blind fury and likely been pieced back together more than a few times. Kardai’s rage in that moment was transferred in the narrowed eyes on her tanned visage as she looked up towards the droid. Perhaps a thought of blasting it once or twice just to vent it out had passed her mind. She certainly couldn’t shoot Ryko or her gunners.

“…T..The readings suggest that the freighter’s cargo hold may be mostly in tact. Our sensors tracked the wreckage to a ravine a few hundred Kilometers outside of Sathad'Ra. I..I regret to inform you that it appears an escape pod was torn free in the crash. While it too was destroyed, it may have gotten a brief distress signal out. It would be isolated to the surrounding geographical area if so.”

Kardai’s eyes glimpsed towards Ryko, she didn’t really even have to speak. Weeks worth of planning, as long as there was a chance they’d get some of those weapons out of there, then it was worth the risk to try and make it down onto Zonju V.

They wouldn’t be able to land at the wreckage, but nearby. She could already see the scar in the planet’s surface where the vessel had gone down, it was lengthy, very lengthy. The closer they got, the more tensed up she was as she nodded towards one of the other crew. “Take over the helm and set us down on the upper rim. Ryko, go get your gear, we’re leading a team down. Make sure your group has their cables.” She ordered, tossing the pad she had back down on her seat once more and looked to the crewman who had taken over for her First Mate.

“Once we’re on the ground head back up into orbit. I’ll signal when we’re ready to go.”

With that Kardai turned about and headed off the bridge towards her quarters to get geared up. Balling her fist as she passed by Dru’Qual’s quarters, hammering on the door, but she kept going. Her own quarters were just a door or two down, the ship was small, so it wasn’t like he wouldn’t find out who it was, especially considering she left her own door open to her quarters while she got suited up, weaponizing herself, anything she thought she needed she harnessed, continuing to take a glimpse back out towards the corridor till her Dark crewman stirred from his quarters.

“We’re going planet side, could use you. Get geared up.”

It wouldn’t be much longer till the small raiding party was on the dirt at the upper rim of the ravine. Smoke boiled up from somewhere down below it, bits and pieces of durasteel scraps were scattered everywhere, but the bulk of the wreckage would have to be dropped down to. Kardai was already securing her line to the base of a tree who’s roots had worked themselves into the dense rock as the Apate disappeared into the bleak cloud cover overhead.

“Lets get this over with quick before someone comes to investigate the crash.”

Michael fastened his line tightly to his belt then amchored it to a nearby boulder, Looking over his shoulder he could see the burning wreckage and let out a long whistle he had seen some bad crashes in his day but it takes a special level of stupid to cause one like that.

He cursed to himself this was supposed to be a easy contract and enough credits to afford a skeleton crew of mandalorians for his own ship but it seems the good captain's luck was going to make this another Skullclaw job the pay better be worth it he grumbled to himself.

Michael clutched onto his DC 15A in one hand and his line
In the other as he made his way down the rocky escarpment,He noticed the awkward angle his legs were forced into and he chuckled to himself he needed to kiss that cheeky little leather maker who convinced him to shell out those extra credits for the additional straps on his blaster holsters had he not he would have lost his heavy blaster pistols.

Oy Captain how long till we reach the crash site ?Michael roared to Kardai

"Keep it down new fish" Ryko grunted out to the mouthy new hand, Michael or something, he didn't know. And he didn't care. New fish were all the same, loud and obnoxious until they inevitably bit off more than they could chew. These ground ops, or boarding actions, were Ryko's realm and forte, the burly Mandalorian slinging his carbine as he abseils down the ravine's face. The other, more experienced mercs all just chuckled grimly to each other and followed Visla down, all remaining quiet and focussed on the job.

It was a long, slow clamber down from the top of the ravine to the very bottom. But Ryko was the first down, turning and unslinging his carbine, bringing it to his shoulder as he panned left and right. The Mandalorian nodded, mostly to himself. "We're good here Kardai. Crash site looks clear from here. Beaten to osik, but clear. No breaches I can see, so we're likely going to get a good haul from the wreck's cargo bays. Boys, get in there sharpish" Ryko said softly into the group's secure comm, moving up. The handful of mercenaries flowed past the Mandalorian, advancing towards the wreck at a good speed. It wouldn't take long to pick the choicest loot from the carcass.. provided they weren't bothered by any annoying do-gooders.

Michael chuckled to himself , typical Visla clan behavior his own clan and clan Visla never got along so Michael didn't take it to heart more so when he could easily slice the annyoing gnat's line and watch him become a very ugly addition to the floor below.

He pointed at Ryko with his fingers in the shape of a blaster and pretended to shoot him. "Aye aye sir" Michael smirked behind his helmet

Kardai stayed perched on the edge of the cliff with her line attached and her weapons drawn, covering the men that bounded down along with Ryko. She heard Michael’s question, but it wasn’t one she intended to answer, not because it was obnoxious, but more along the lines that she didn’t know. Truth was they were going to try to make this quick, a snatch and grab, but just how long precisely that would take would depend on how badly mangled the wreck was.

When Ryko’s voice crackled over her comms piece in her ear she brought her finger up and toggled the button on the side of it. “Roger that Ryko. Proceed to the crash site and start cutting into the bay. I’m on my way down.”

Kardai wasted no time as she rappelled down the side of the ravine the way the others had gone. Whatever fate the gods had for them she managed to put her boots on the ground just in time to hear Michael’s comment and see the finger gesture. It was only more than appropriate that what happened next would more than likely startle the new crew member as Kardai sent a rough enough smack to the back of his helmeted head, enough to drop his head forward a bit as she gave a scornful look.

“Cut it Steelfang. Get to work.” She barked her orders as she unclipped herself and headed onward down the jagged and rocky path towards the crash site, her blasters drawn as she approached Ryko and his group, “Alright boys. No witnesses, no survivors. Lets get in and get our stuff and out. Manage to find the ship’s sensor log computer and I’ll give you a nice fat bonus in addition to your split.” She smirked as she headed onward, a blaster pistol in each hand as she stalked onward towards the twisted and mangled wreckage a few meters ahead.

Unfastening his, Michael followed the rest of the group to the wreck, scanning over the crash he noticed one severly burned man try to crawl out of the wreck taking aim he ended the man's missery with a bolt to the base of the skull

Lifting up a chunk of burnt up scrap metal he found a couple of crates "Hey boss found some cargo what in these things anyway?" Shifting the crates out into the open near the wreck he carried on working moving and searching through the outer wreckage he was smart enough to not be the first to go inside the wreck that could possibly collapse on his head at any given momment leave that to Ryko

Dru's eyes opened as the rasping of the captains fist sounded inside of his room. The captains spoke quick letting him know his help was needed below. He stood from his sitting posistion in the center of the floor, moving swiftly towards his locker retrieving his two Höllensturm pistols and placing them in the two holsters behind his back. Then pulling his two tonfa's from the shelf and placing each into a rig on each side of his belt. Last he reached for his black armor weave duster, threading his arms through the sleeves letting the comfortable weight of the coat rest upon his shoulders. Turning towards the door, Dru made his way to the landing craft.

The heat of Zonju V was a stark contrast to the cool temperatures of the ship. The sun's rays were a welcome feeling on his skin. The crew rushed outside looking over the wreckage ahead. A few sharp words were spoken but Dru's ignored them all until he heard Ryko give the order to head in. Dru took off at a dead sprint. As he reached the edge of the wreck he jumped up grabbing hold of a vent and began pulling himself up on top of the wrecked vessel. He quickly made in to the the top and stood above there downed prize. "Ryko. I have an airlock door here." Dru moved towards the sealed portal. "Shall I enter and see whats to be found?"

Glancing over at Steelfang's 'prize'... Ryko snorted. "New fish, those aren't worth osik. The good stuff wouldn't be unsecured. Moron. Dru, kick the door in and check the cargo hold. Quietly. If there's any crew left, which I doubt since we blew the kriffing hell out of their ship, just drop them. Morasj and Ukul, you follow him in and keep the sweep going" Ryko spoke, directing the two Weequays of the ground party to support the androgynous human. Ry was never entirely sure if Dru was a boy or girl, and didn't care much to find out either way, he was creeped out enough by the kid.

The Mandalorian effeciently directed the rest of the search party, combing over the outer hull of the downed ship for additional access points. Things like airlocks, escape pod hatches, boarding tubes used for space station docking, that kind of thing. Breaching the ship from multiple points was the most prudent course of action and the best way to clean house before trouble caught up with them. "Once you find something worth grabbing, sound off and we'll get the shuttle down here"

Michael smiled behind his helm "You never know Ryko might be something worth a few credits" Michael continued his search around the outside of the wreck ignoring the others that had joined in, the side of the wreck he was on was littered with chunks of the ship but no entrances or anything else of value "We got nothing on this side but scrap metal and more scrap metal what about yours Ryko"

Kardai wasted no time in catching up with the rest of her crew. While the others questioned and waited for proper chains of command the Captain had already climbed up the gnarled wreckage and was making her way through the maze of broken deckplates towards what was left of the freighter’s bridge area. All in all there wasn’t much of a ship left other than a twisted body around a reinforced cargo bay. Almost every single view port had blown out on impact, and even where she was now she could see a body half strewn out of the bridge port.

Listening to the chatter on the comm. stuck in her ear she shook her head just a bit and brought her finger up, toggling the mic built into it.

“You boys waiting for an invitation?”

Placing her hands on the rim of the viewport frame she hoisted herself into the the grizzly scene, inside were no less than three mangled remains, bits and pieces of ‘em everywhere. Of course it didn’t really phase her in the least, not even those glassy eyes that followed her as she shifted panels and strewn equipment out of her way. While her guys were busy down below scavenging cargo, she was going to locate that sensor log and take it with her.

Michael heard the captain's voice crackle over his com Michael made a note his com unit needed to get a tune up , he smiled his signature smile"By your orders Captain " ending his external search Michael hoisted up his rifle and made his way into the wreck making sure not to follow the same path as the previous group he found himself in a corridor blocked off by a piece of fallen metal from the roof

With a deep sigh Michael approached the chunk of metal ,placing his rifle down next to him ,taking firm grip on it, he heaved the hunk metal out of the way it took all his strength to move the damn thing what lay before him was a long pitch black corridor the stench of death clung to the air an all too familiar scent "By Hiemskal's beard I can never mistake that scent roasted Weequay flesh not much worse than that"

Dru took a knee retrieving a knife from his boot. He pried off the maintenance cover to the air lock. Taking note of the design he cut the hydrolic relief line. The doors seal crack just enough for Dru to squeeze his fingers in and begin to pull the door open. Small wisps of smoke rose up for the opening as he pried the door far enough open for Morasj and Ukul to follow him through, once the arrived up top of the ship. Satisfied that the door wasn't going to close behind him. Dru lowered himself into the dark passage below, acrid smoke filled his nostrils as he moved down the passage way towards what he hoped was the cargo bay.

A few minutes of traversing the dark corridors brought Dru to what he could only assume to be a door that lead to the cargo bay. "Ryko its Dru. Made it to what appears to be an entrance into the cargo bay. Attempting to get in now." Dru searched the perimeter of the door way looking for another maintenance hatch. He found what he was looking for above and to the right of the doorway. He reached up prying the hatch loose with his knife letting it fall noisily to the floor. Grabbing the lip of the maintenance access, Dru pulled himself up to look inside. To his surprise this door had an emergency override. "Well hell. Lucky day for me." Dru reached inside and quickly pulled down the override. The doors seal popped and slide open a few feet. Dru dropped himself back to the deck and radioed in. "Ryko, I have access to the cargo. Still haven't seen Tweedledee and dum yet though. I am going in to check whats there."

Dru moved forward to enter into the cargo bay. As he was coming around the edge of the door that voice in the back of his head told him to step back and he did. Two large blue bolts of energy screamed through the crack in the door where his body should of been. Both blaster bolts smashed into the wall behind the door leaving large black craters where the durasteel used to be. He took a second to peak inside, and quickly saw the assault droid moving towards the door. "Crap." Dru took off running back past the door to where hopefully he would find Morasj and Ukul. Two more bolts smashed into the wall behind him as he ran past the open door.

"Ryko, this loot has a guard dog. And its really pissed. Some kind of droid. Four legs, to heavy blasters mounted on its head." Dru heard the doors behind him being force further open. "Did I mention its pissed."

Kardai continued to make her way through the debris in the bridge deck towards the area where the ship’s sensor bank would normally be recorded. The closer she got though, the more her nose told her she was approaching danger. The smell that was steadily growing stronger was that of smoke. The potent smell of electrical equipment burning was distinctive, and as she approached the panel she eyed it suspiciously, holstering her weapons at her hip after a check to make sure none of those bodies around her were moving she reached out and took hold of the metal panel.

Almost instantly she wished she hadn’t as the fiery temperatures bit into her hands, with a bit of a yelp and a wince she’d quickly let it go and shook her hands profusely as the pain spread. Finally looking at her reddened palms she narrowed her eyes a bit. They weren’t badly burnt but by the gods that had frellin’ hurt.

Rummaging through the debris she found a good sturdy piece of metal that had been torn from someplace in the ship and popped open one of the emergency containment holders and tugged out one of the fire suppression canisters and held it in one hand while she used the metal fragment to pry off that super heated panel. As it collapsed to the deck she instantly felt the torrent of heat escaping out of the empty compartment, and the dark interior of the ship illuminated with the fiery orange-red glow of fire.

Kardai had a pretty damned good view of that fire too, while she might’ve otherwise left the flames to destroy what she’d come from, that sensor box was like most spacecraft boxes, fire resistant and capable of surviving the crash so it could be retrieved later. She didn’t waste much time though, with the panel open that fire gained more oxygen and seemed to grow even more intense as she lobed the canister from her other hand into the open access and stepped aside out of the opening.

A second or two ticked by before there was the sound of something popping, and the instant rush and splatter of that fire retardant foam that exploded all over, including out of the panel on the far wall. Inside she could already hear the sizzle and hiss of dying flames as the foam worked to snuff out the fire.

Kardai waited a few moments for the heat to dissipate a bit before she climbed into that access, mindful of what she was touching and getting tangled up in, considering all around her were melted plastic messes of wires and exposed feeds. A few of them still sparked with life from time to time while she shuffled past towards the large red box mounted on the backside of all that equipment. Tugging out her knife from her hip she started working on unscrewing it from the bulkhead wall, though the heat in the area was still quite high, already forming drops of sweat on her forehead and face.

Of course she paused when Dru’s report of the droid came across the comms in her ear. As he described the droid she thought over her knowledge with them.

“Sounds like one of the old Czerka Marks.” She answered back. “Better you pissed it off than me Dru.” She bantered at him.

"You mentioned. Run it by the Weequays, they'll hold it back. Meanwhile, you get back to searching. I'm on my way to deal with the droid. Morasj, Ukul, pin it down" Ryko said sharply as he turned and made his way to the crashed ship, waving the others off. They were needed more to guard the perimeter. He could deal with a junk droid and he ducked through the airlock with a hand reaching for his belt, where numerous grenades and other more exotic thrown devices resided on his kit. He plucked an ion grenade from there, pressing the arming stud down as he made his way into the cargo hold.

The tell-tale whine of blaster fire told him the situation more than the panicked speech of the Weequays did. They were quickly pinned down behind some crates, trying to exchange fire with the old-model assault droid. Of course, two blaster rifles handled by barely trained thugs versus a stabilized heavy repeater was an incredibly one sided fight. Then Ukul ( the ugly one ) went down with half his head missing as the droid adjusted it's fire. Wasn't much of a loss, Ryko thought automatically as he triggered his jetpack, shooting up to the highest of the stacked cargo containers. He really just took his time, there was no rush. Still one Weequay-shaped distraction left until the droid started hunting and killing the rest of the group. He tossed the ion grenade up and then caught it as he looked over the edge of the crate at the assault droid.

"Hmnh, might be worth something on the scrap market" the Mandalorian muttered, glancing over at the pinned Weequay for just a moment. The droid fired another barrage of red bolts, chewing through the cover and ending the sorry excuse for life that was Morasj. Then Ryko primed the ion grenade and dropped it on the droid...
