Gash Varemen was born on Hays Minor to Jedi parents who had come to the planet with plans to rid it of pollution and help the disparate sentients their to rebuild their societies. This was slow-going - it took years to remove the corruption the First Order had spread there, but by the time Gash was a young adult, just beginning his Jedi training, Hays Minor was beginning to thrive. The Varemen family decided to settle there.

Gash, like most Jedi within the reformed Order, was always given a choice with what he wanted to do in life. His decision to join the Order was driven by observing his parents: his mother, a master of lightsaber combat and charismatic leader; and his father, a prolific healer who knew every face and name within a fifty-mile radius of their settlement. These two, and what they did to help the people of Hays Minor, along with their Jedi comrades, were the driving force of Gash's decision.

The young Jedi's normal existence came to a sudden end when his mother and father went missing. Gash was floored with the news, and much to the disappointment of the Jedi Council, which had ordered him to remain, the padawan struck out on his own to find them. Their distress beacon had gone out long before he arrived, but the first place he searched was the world of Ryloth, where they had been sent on a peacekeeping mission days prior. He did not find them there, but their camp was still intact. There were signs of violence.

In the years afterward, Gash struggled with the fact that he would probably never see his parents again. Gash felt abandoned, regardless of the fact he did not know where they went, and this caused him to withdraw into himself. However, despite his quiet and brooding demeanor and less-than optimal communication skills, he continued to show great discipline and strength of character, hone his lightsaber and Force abilities, and all-in-all follow the ways of the Jedi to a T. Under the tutelage of his new master, who would pass from old age soon after, Gash completed his trials with flying colors, and was knighted by the Council. Since then has served the Order, and indeed, the Force, to the best of his ability and with honor.
