First off, I have no idea how to actually write one of these posts, so forgive me for rambling a bit if I do. I've never really done resignation posts because I never had to, because...well I've pretty much always been around in some form or another since the site began....11ish years ago now?
In that time I've been all sorts of things - RPers, arch-enemy to Bac, admin, former admin, FL, former FL, admin again, then executive admin and, most recently, co-owner. I discovered an interest in politics, in game design, and in writing, thanks to this board. It introduced me to comics. It introduced me to the full scope of Star Wars, and it's made me a more well-read, well-educated person. I've made some incredible and lifelong friends in that time, and I've made a lot of members harbour feelings that are...not quite as warm and fuzzy towards me. But, throughout all the stress and headaches and OH GOD CAN WE BURN THE SITE DOWN ALREADY, I've pretty much loved every part of contributing towards shaping the site into what it is today.
Since I switched from executive admin to co-owner, I've learned that I kind of suck at taking the back seat.Especially with this timeline having more 'me' in it than any previous timeline, it's been difficult for me to sit back and really do the whole 'advisory role' thing. It's not really in my nature, especially given it's...well, sort of become second nature to be all adminly, I suppose. So I haven't been entirely comfortable with my position. That's factor 1.
The second factor is the natural evolution of the rules over time. Now, I don't want to come across all sour grapes or anything, but when I wrote the rules on the Force for this timeline, I certainly didn't envisage the Force becoming as...impotent as it's now been made. As someone who has, quite literally for their entire time on the site, pushed the boundaries of Force usage and tried to break free of the mold of traditional perceptions of Force Powers, trying to RP in a timeline where the Force is so restricted is anathema to me.
That being said, I don't want this to sound like I'm hating on the work Gaba or any of the other admins and mods have done, by any means. In all honesty, I'm thoroughly impressed (and slightly surprised) at how smoothly we transitioned from myself and Bac running things to Gaba, and it's a real credit to her and the rest of the staff that things have gone so smoothly. Ultimately, my issue is a matter of flavour, opinion and preference - and obviously the new staff have a different take on things than I did when I wrote the rules. I can't fault them for that...but I can't work with it either, and ultimately my difference of opinion is going to be more toxic than productive, so somethign has to give.
This isn't something I've decided lightly - the last couple of days especially, I've withdrawn from the site and given some serious thought to this, but this has been something brewing in my mind for months now. Ultimately I feel that I need to fully step away, both for my own benefit, and for the rest of the staff.
So, onto the headlines, I suppose. I'll no longer be participating in the RP since I...can't really work with the new framework that's been established, so my characters are retired and I've left the faction chats. You can still find me on the main SWRP group chat, though I imagine I won't be all that active on there. I'll probably still hang around the OOC areas and the diverse sections, but yeah, as far as the main RP goes, I'm done.
I'd also like my admin rights revoked - I've left the staff chat on skype, but I still have admin access on the board itself, and I'm not really comfortable with this, so if that could be removed it'd be appreciated. Tagging @Bee @GABAroo @Brandon Rhea because relevant.
