DESCRIPTION
The SR-3 Trace-class patrol skiff is a light spacecraft manufactured by Cygnus Spaceworks - makers of the iconic T-4A Lambda-class shuttle - exclusively for the Sector Rangers, the New Republic's most feared and successful law enforcement organization. Bearing many of Cygnus' trademark features - folding wings, decent armament and a stylish design - the Trace is in many ways the symbol of the Sector Rangers to most of the Galaxy, feared by criminals and cheered by their victims.

The Trace-class patrol skiff is a classic Cygnus Spaceworks hull, tastefully angular with a distinctive red paint scheme, a traditional color dating back to the Old Republic which denoted a vessel on official business. The ship has a wedge-shaped cockpit, which can separate from the rest of the ship in an emergency as an escape pod. It has a side-by-side seating arrangement for the pilot and copilot, although only 1 pilot is strictly necessary to fly the ship in most circumstances. Notably, the cockpit of the vessel has side doors, a feature not seen on many spacecraft; there is also a conventional docking airlock on the ventral hull, equipped with an extendable cofferdam and hull-cutting tools for getting into disabled criminal vessels. Weapons include a pair of medium laser cannons, a medium ion cannon to disable enemy craft, a pair of 3-shot concussion missile launchers, and a retractable repeating blaster turret mounted in the ventral hull beneath the cockpit, not especially useful against other ships but decent against light vehicles and personnel.

Of note, the Trace is also equipped with an aft-mounted tractor beam projector, allowing it to tow disabled vessels up to the size of a light freighter.

Trace-class patrol skiffs can carry 2 passengers in addition to the crew, and are equipped with storage space for 1.5 tons of cargo. Consumable reserves allow the craft to remain in space for up to 2 weeks at a time. Other amenities include a miniature autochef, a compact refresher, foldable sleeping berths and a small holographic entertainment system. Of note, the two rear passenger seats are fitted with individual prisoner restraint systems based on particle screen technology, using an energy field to physically immobilize anyone sitting in the seat while the system is activated.

Trace-class skiffs have exceptional speed an maneuverability for their size, able to reach 80 MGLT with decent turning ability. Though not strictly intended for it, they can match most low-tier starfighters in a nekfight, and a skilled pilot can do quite a lot with the craft.

Although they are well liked and respected by many Sector Rangers, and are theoretically standard issue, Trace-class patrol skiffs are not used by all rangers, with many preferring to use less recognizable vessels in order to be less conspicuous to their quarry, although they can claim a Trace from the agency's starship pool at any time. This being said, the recent bombing of the Sector Rangers headquarters on Coruscant has made this difficult in practice; a large number of the agency's Traces were mothballed in a sub-basement and were destroyed when it collapsed. Replacements are on order from Cygnus Spaceworks, although it will likely be some time before these are available.

LEGALITY
Restricted. SR-3 Trace-class patrol skiffs are armed law enforcement craft, and are reserved for the exclusive use of members of the Sector Rangers.

INTENT
To create a faction-specific vehicle for the Sector Rangers.

RESTRICTIONS
SR-3 Trace-class patrol skiffs are exceptionally rare and expensive, and are produced exclusively for the Sector Rangers. Sector Ranger characters may use them as a given, but possession of such a ship by anyone else must have a compelling reason behind it, to be vetted by members of staff.
